One killer is bad news. Two is a living nightmare.
Homicide Detective Jessie Talbot is no stranger to murder scenes, but nothing could have prepared her for two in a row. When a second killer leaves a familiar mark beside his victim, the investigation escalates to impossible new heights.
The Homecoming King and The Teacher seem to be working together, making a display of their victims and causing panic in the city. While Jessie tracks them down with the help of an unusual ally, the killers are busy lining up their next victim with only one thing on their they want it to go public, and they’ll do anything to make that happen.
Jessie Talbot is a tough, sassy cop with unending dedication to her job. The contrast between her personal and working lives draw the reader into a brilliantly dark world of crime, making for a perfect entry to the serial killer genre.
Adam Nicholls grew up in the southwest of England, where he studied creative writing while working a variety of full-time jobs. When his Mason Black series was first published, he quickly became a bestseller and then went on to create a name for himself in the thriller genre. Adam now lives with his wife in Bristol.

I was hooked from the 1st page. 2nd book in series featuring Jessie Talbot. This was far better than the 1st. Although still goes on about her motorbike which can be boring. Other than that I was totally gripped on this book and literally read it in just a few hours as couldn't put it down
In this second instalment in the Detective Jessie Talbot Series the tough cop is up against not one but two killers. The murders of two young women so closely together would be bad enough but when Jessie finds there may be more linking the two she’s pushed to her limit to solve the case before more young women die. Adam Nicholls has created a totally believable character in Jessie Talbot. She’s a character with her own issues in life that threaten to distract her at a crucial time. I enjoyed the first book, One Last Breath, that introduced Jessie Talbot and couldn’t wait to read more about the character. This book was even better than I could have hoped for. It’s dark, tense, with a compelling and believable main character and a story that kept me reading late into the night. Addictive reading that I highly recommended.
Nicholls has created a great new character in Detective Jessie Talbot. Sometimes fearless, often consumed by emotion, Talbot is dedicated to her job and committed to the victims. Whether racing after a clue on her bike or running headlong after a suspect without backup, Jessie jeeps the reader on edge.
In Between Two Evils the detectives find themselves faced with serial killings of college girls. With little to go on, other then cryptic painted titles, Talbot and Baker may be facing a tag team of serial killer's. One thing is for sure, another girl is missing and they need a lead. Or maybe a glimpse at what they may be facing. This case has twists and turns a plenty.
As if the case is not enough, Jessie us also facing questions about herself. As the clock ticks on a young girl's life, is there any time to even sort out a personal dilemma?
Between Two Evils is a perfect title for Adam Nichols’ sensational writing and timeline to unfold the two evils. One big twist and several crucial to the end make this a true edge of your seat, pages flying story that has Detective Jessie Talbot stressing about her job. Stress comes from her personal life, also, and Mr. Nichols has created an excellent goodread. An explosive, action packed end, a must read for detective thriller fans. At the end of this book, Mr. Nichols said he was taking a break from another Jessie Talbot book. At some point I hope he tackles another with this genre in mind.
My rating of four stars is because I really disliked the author's adding a possibility of a homosexual bent to his character, Jessie Talbot. I have no issue with a homosexuality, per se. I just feel that this was an unnecessary nod to a trend that some writers feel must be met by their characters. This mystery covered the murders of high school girls by two murders who are competing with each other. The girls had all been friends, one of whom had been followed and taped by a boy who had a "thing" for her. His rather creepy filming actually gave the police a clue that led to solving the case.
Two serial killers start a deadly competition. The first two victims were friend. When the third of the circle goes missing during an audacious abduction, Det. Jessie Talbot is determined to end the reign of terror.
The story surrounding the murders is good. Jessie is bi-curious and flirting with an IA investigator. More of the silly sister backstory slows the action. It just gets stupid with the sister breaking into Jessie's apartment and throwing a surprise birthday party with her colleagues in the middle of a hot investigation?.Ridiculous. Wish they just stuck with the mystery.
Detective Jessie Talbot was back! The body of a young girl was strapped angel-style on the college football field. The second murder was at a skate park. Two girls. Two murders. This time, Homicide was caught between two killers known as The Homecoming King and The Teacher. This was another good one with twists and thrills. Jessie deals with the confusion of chasing 2 killers while trying to discover her true sexual preference and identity. A good read!
This, second book, in the Jessie Talbot series is so exciting and entertaining. Jessie is a great character. I was hooked from the beginning to end. So much drama and suspense with twists and turns throughout. I’m looking forward to the next addition. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving this review
Another enjoyable story about Jessie, a strong female detective, yet again trying to uncover the truth about murder - a tale included in a box set I have.
Fast-paced, this is a well-written piece with heroes and villains and those in between. It has action mixed with thoughts and feelings, giving it depth.
This was quite a good book, and well written. Although it didn't have the 'wow' factor for me, it was still quite tense at times. This is part of a boxed set, so it was very good value for money.
