Rate this book
From family to relationships to race, we all have different factors which contribute to our overall identity. Blackish explores the complexity of Identity, whether it be how one identifies themselves, or how their identity is perceived by others. Tyrone's poetry explores the complexities of the different aspects that make up ones self, prompting others to think on what makes them them.

"These are poems for people. People with hearts. People who remember their first times. People who've tried to figure out their place in the world. And people who've maybe seen a Star Wars movie or two."
- Jacob Sam-La Rose

"Tyrone writes with a truth and detail that I love soaked in an intelligence and hope that we all surely need”.
- Polar Bear

"Tyrone has a genius way of choosing the right words & phrases to touch people. Tyrone makes you laugh and think in equal amounts. He’s funny. He’s real, He’s my Son, and he’s Awesome!!! Tyrone IS Blackish."
- Caz Ann Moy (My Mum)

Some poems will sucker-punch you. Some poems will bring you to tears. Some poems, you might not understand half the references. Some poems will help you understand a few things. Some poems you might understand a bit too much and it will leave you out of breath.
And they are even more powerful if you've seen Tyrone Lewis perform them on stage. If he passes through your town on one of his tours, go see him!

I really enjoyed this collection. I often struggle with pop culture references in books as sometimes it is cringey but this didn’t feel cringey at all. Media is how we identify ourselves from an early age, whether it is a TV show, music, or books, and Blackish really focuses on that.

I would love to hear these poems live one day.

The cover alone gets 5 stars! But seriously this book is an amazing blend of pop culture, identity and black experience. Recommend to everyone!

Absolute stunning debut work from one of the best performing poets in London. It’s intimate, it aches, it punches through the page.

Keep an eye on Tyrone - we’re just at his origin story in this saga.
