Detective Tom Bradshaw and Dr. Laura Lannigan marry in spite of stark differences in their backgrounds. Laura is killed in a tragic accident, leaving Tom, a Southern Baptist, to raise their daughter, Adrianna, as a Roman Catholic. Tom and Adrianna move to Topsail Island, where they become involved in a terrorist’s plot to attack Camp Lejeune. Tom’s investigative instincts lead him into the attack and the undying hatred of Abdul-Hamid. After an attack on Adrianna, Tom follows Abdul Hamid to Havanna. He injures him, but the wounds are not fatal. In retaliation, Abdul-Hamid makes another attempt to kill Tom and Adrianna. Virgil Stubbs, the driver of the truck that killed Laura, saves Tom and Adrianna. Tom has been fiercely loyal to Laura, but Adrianna decides that it is time for him to remarry. Lea Riggs, Adrianna’s pediatrician, becomes a willing participant in the conspiracy against Tom’s bachelorhood. Ultimately it is Laura who has the final say.
