Ten years later, a landmark moment in Archie Comics history is being revisited!

ARCHIE: THE MARRIED LIFE 10th ANNIVERSARY is a sequel to the headline-making 2009 "Archie Wedding" storyline. CNN: What will be the long-term impact of [Archie's death in The Married Life #36]?

Goldwater: Well, this is the end. This is how Archie dies in the pages of “Life With Archie.” We will not be retconning, reversing or backtracking on this story in terms of “Life With Archie.”

This book is just awful. There's almost nothing redeeming about it. As an attempt to show the characters maturing and growing older it ends up being about lying, adultery, sex jokes, and failing marriages. It tries to appeal to older audience by taking all of the nostalgia and whimsy you have for these characters and shitting all over it. There's some quiet consolation at the end that things will eventually turn out alright and the world will keep spinning but to get there it has to take you through a downward hellish roller coaster of all these characters growing old and turning into despicable people. Maybe they will become better by the end of the book but for a big "10 Years Later" celebration where you finally get to see these icons grow old and mature, it's depressing to see all of them miserable and hating each other.

This was an effort to see what life would hold for Archie if he married Veronica, or if he married Betty. But ultimately, the whole thing feels like a non-issue, really, as it's all so superficial that there's not much point to it. This notion of exploring the future of Riverdale is done much, much better in the expansive Life with Archie: The Married Life series, collected in six 300+-page volumes. Don't bother with this; focus your attentions on the massive The Married Life series.
