This book is with him at all times. "If it wasn't for Jim Chapin, I don't think 20th century Western music would have ever been the same." he says, wild-eyed, emerging from the bathroom with drumsticks and Advanced Techniques in his hand.
UPDATE 11/18/13 "The 2 CDs that come with this book are the most important thing that ever happened to my music library. This book is just fucking gnarly. Jim Chapin is fucking gnarly."
Obviously this is a 5-star book. Generations of drummers, including most of the greats, have benefited from the exercises herein. I've played through the book cover to cover. It wasn't easy at first, but it has made so much available to me on the drum set. This is all about independent coordination based on swing rhythms and by mastering these exercises I have improved my reading and have been able to apply the skills I've developed to studying afro-Caribbean and Brazilain rhythms as applied to the drum set.
