Not As I Do...

Rate this book
Even though my father is dead and gone, his memory haunts virtually every moment of my life, whether I’m asleep or awake. They called him the Butcher for what he did to women. Ironically enough, he was indeed a butcher by trade. When I became prominent in the press for standing by his side, I became the Butcher’s Daughter. I know, it sounds like some insane, cruel joke that life is playing on me. I was thirteen when I found my dad hovering over my mother’s lifeless body with a cleaver in his hand. He swore he was innocent of her killing — and of the dozen other murders the prosecution linked to him. For eight years, I believed him, right up until the day that the state executed him. My belief that he was innocent was irrelevant and my father is now dead. At twenty-one, I started over. I left Texas and moved to New England, changed my name, and enrolled in college, thinking I could leave the horrors of my childhood and adolescent years behind. No more “Butcher’s Daughter,” I was now Alicia Timbers. But the past never stays buried. Someone has followed me here and picked up where The Butcher left off. Under the shadow of my father’s legacy, the body count on campus continues to rise, and this killer is determined not to let me go a second time…

But someone doesn't want that. She left Texas in hopes of a fresh start. Now in New England enrolled in college new identity can the past stay buried so her life can begin? Of course not the body count is piling up and the prime suspect is the logical one Alicia (aka Rebecca the butcher daughter). This book is by a new author for me and it's a genre I don't read often but the synopsis intrigued me so I agreed to download an ARC and see if it lived up to my expectations. The short answer to that is that it did, I loved it, I was hooked from the very beginning, I couldn’t stop reading. The author's writing style is good and the story builds in such a way that the twists and turns added as you read make you think again about who the killer might be? There are several twists and turns which I wasn't expecting which added intrigue and suspense to the story. The subject matter might be intense but the author's talent makes it easy to read and it's not too graphic so don't be put off - give it a try, I don't think you will be disappointed if you are a fan of this genre.

I devoured this psychological thriller is a single sitting, I could not put it down! I loved the storyline-the story is around the daughter of a convicted serial killer, but she is convinced her father is innocent. One of the victims was his wife, meaning Rebecca has no family & has been in foster care. She's now at the age where she can start over, new name, college-just when you think her life is going to settle down, that's when the action completely ramps up! Rebecca is supposed to be young, but at times comes off as much older, and her character sometimes felt inconsistent. That aside, this was an engrossing, twisty read.

Not As I Do: A Psychological Thriller this book had a bit of everything from intrigue, heart pounding suspense with plenty of twist and turns. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was around the next corner. The characters were interesting and well developed, the storyline was very thrilling. She is the daughter of a man who is believed to be The Butcher, a serial killer who has done unspeakable acts against his victims. She has always believed in his innocents. Wanting not to be The Butchers daughter she moves on to college and this is where the story will keep you hooked. I liked this story is flowed good for me and It was very enjoyable.

I had mixed feelings about this book. It was interesting. You never think of the family a serial killer leaves behind and the hardships they face. It even harder when the killer is wrongly convicted. This is about Rebecca whose father was executed for being a serial killer but was actually innocent. His daughter , Rebecca changes her name and travels across the country to get a fresh start and goes to college. Some of the story was unbelievable and parts were just too far fetched. But I did enjoy the story.

Rebecca's father is the alleged Butcher, a serial killer. However she knows he is innocent. When she starts college she changes her identity and becomes Alicia. A series of events leads her to think that the Butcher has followed her and has started killing again. With the help of her roommate's father she tries to put an end to the terror. Some interesting twists and turns in the plot although some loose ends left unexplained. Also includes some drug and alcohol misuse. Read an ARC for an honest review.

I had such high hopes for this book. It moved along at a nice pace, giving the reader pertinent information through thoughts and flashbacks. All of a sudden...BAM! The end. The killer is revealed, but the reader is left with more questions than answers. Why did the killer kill? Who was Anthony? How did the story wrap up? We are left with thoughts of a second installment, but not enough info to truly make a second book worth reading.

She is known as the Butcher's Daughter. Her father is known as the serial killer, The Butcher. He has just been executed after eight years. Moving to New England and changing her name, Alicia starts college and believes she is on her way of leaving her past behind her. Until the body count begins to rise around her. Was her father innocent? Is this a copy cat or the original.serial killer? Is her life in danger? This was.a really good story with great characters. Enjoy!

Left with questions

A story of what happens in the aftermath to the family of a "presumed" serial killer is a fascinating tale. Just how it affects their behavior and the attitude of others, simply put, enlightening. It made for a good suspenseful story. The ending will leave you scratching your head and wondering----what's to come?! Enjoyed.

It was interesting

While I do enjoy the characters and the story ran smoothly, the grammar needs to be looked in to. Many sentences had me I, and it took me out of the story. I do like that Alicia’s father was framed, and she encounters the real killer, but I don't think the serial killer needed his own monologue. Other than that, I thought it was enjoyable to read.

Not to leave a spoiler-alert, but that was one ending I did NOT see coming! I really felt for "Alicia" , the edgy MC, in her build a new life under circumstances I cannot even begin to fathom! Loved how the author kept me second-guessing other possible suspects, along the way! I will be reaading more of this author's books, now that she has me hooked! Great job, Avery Towers!
