Increasingly disturbing Christmas decorations from a stranger. Simple phrases with sinister implications. A childhood monster that is all too real and lies waiting. These are some of the seventeen new horror stories by Brandon Faircloth, all of which connect to each other and to the realm of Incarnata--a wondrous and terrifying place filled with miracles and monsters. By the end, you will find yourself in the dark and silent halls of a cursed hotel, standing before a door that simply reads "The Halloween Room". Turn the page, open the door, and step into Incarnata for yourself.
Absolutely Awesome!!! This is the second book I've read by Faircloth and loved. I loved how all these stories connected, and how intricately each one was crafted. This title would make a fantastic set of films for Netflix or the theater.
I really love in Mr. Faircloth's books there's a thread that joins many stories into one, and then all those big mega stories into one...Ur-story? His stories don't take place in a universe, but a multiverse ever changing, but there's always the same repeated elements. People are not as they seem. Question everything. Family rituals, both for good and for evil create major events. Even a child who accidentally wakes a monster can be both strong and innocent enough to kill or bind it.
I love stories. I love creepy stories. And I love it when it all comes together to make we want to read more creepy stories. I do hope there’s a sequel to this ... Read it and enjoy the ride!
This is the second Brandon Faircloth I've read and it does not disappoint. Love the narrative and they way the stories all intertwine leading to one great conclusion - if you can call it that. Here's hoping for a sequel.
Brandon Faircloth's books are absolutely addicting. All of the stories in this book are well written and thought provoking. This is my second book I have read by Brandon Faircloth and it definitely will not be the last.
A collection of strange and wonderful stories, separate, yet to some extent entertwined that will frighten, and enchant you. I enjoyed this story, (stories), and recommend that you give it a chance. Your imagination will thank you. It's
The first 30% of the book is many quick short stories, all like tangents and they don't connect to each other. Even though I don't like short stories, it still kept me intriged. Then the short stories started to get longer with some connections. The reader has to wait until 3/4 of the book to just start putting things together and it's not until the last chapter that all my questions formed an answer By the way, the book ends like there will be a next book, but so far there is not. Fascinating story though.
Usually, I write a summary note to jar my memory about the story line, but I cannot without giving away too much, or spoilers. It's a complex story. Not sure if I'll read the next book, if there is one coming.
Overall a very good collection of short stories (some longer than others). Several of the stories seem to have some kind of connection (such as the hotel) but others don’t, or st least it wasn’t apparent to me (ex. The Steampunk Cannibal story and the twin story didn’t seem related to the others except that weird things happen. The ending was left a bit open ended, as if there could be a sequel, which would be interesting to read.
Another Brandon Faircloth winner. What is always delightful is the interconnectedness in all of his stories, which makes for exciting and enlightening re-reading.
4.5/5 - for Harvey, Tommy, Brian/Alexi, Spires, Jack, and Samantha.
I really loved these stories! From all the twists and turns, and a sliver of truth winding down in all the stories. Just WOW! A really amazing author!!
