Billy Bunter #2

Billy Bunter's Banknote

Rate this book
How did it come about that Billy Bunter, famed for being in want of cash, was one day waving a ten-pound note around? It was suspicious indeed when you take into account the fact that a considerable sum had recently been stolen from the Head's study.

Truly horrible. How can anyone bear to be in the company of someone so greedy, lazy, untruthful and generally dislikable? How come his classmates even tolerate him? How come the school tolerates him?

I'd rather keep company with Bulldog Drummond.

Bunter's probably grown up to support Nigel Farage and be a Tory MP with a rape accusation hanging over him.

Odious.

Schools back in #1262 and Coker finds himself owing £25 for a horse. Of course, because it's Coker, a misunderstanding occurs, and soon the school is under the impression that Coker has taken to gambling.

#1263: Bunter hides a box of cigars in the empty Study No #4 but things don't go to plan when Quelch locks the study and the cigar box is revealed to hold money not cigars.

#1270 is laugh out loud hilarious. Bunter is framed for throwing a cricket ball at Carne of the sixth. Favourite moment: Bunter trying to conceal the photo frames!!!!

#1271 - #1275 is an utterly brilliant series. A hidden loot has been parked in Study Number #1 by a thief. The thieves confederates assume retrieving it will be east sailing - but are filled time and time again by a series of unexpected events. Every word in this series is perfect!

Favourite quote: #1272: "the most unsuspicious form master might have grown suspicious had he discerned that the sufferer did not know which leg was injured"

Reading this brought back happy memories of having read the Billy Bunter books over fifty years ago. Although the story content is quite trivial Bunter's character provides much amusement. I am sure that these Bunter stories would still be enjoyable to any 12 year old readers - if there are any!
