I am a budding author illustrator of children's books, with a passion for producing content that will entertain as well as provoke thought in our young readers.

I believe in challenging children and giving just enough information for them to ask a question or fill in the gaps themselves. Reading a children's book should be a collaborative exercise between parent and child, with pauses for questions and creative discussions.

So far I have produced two story books (The Lonely Squid and The Rock Squad), and two multi-book series of alphabet picture books.

Lots of Islands!

The title of this book is, of course, a bit of a misnomer; there is no country called Islands. Other books in this series have focused on a specific country, as one might expect from a series called the ABCs of Countries. In this book, instead, each letter introduces us to a new island, which may or may not be a country. As the focus is broader, we just get a single-page look at each island before we move on to the next. He did fudge a little on two letters, X and W, which he used for a two-page spread on extreme weather. The pictures were gorgeous, actually, but it felt like cheating just a little. He did have quite an array of different Islands, one of which I hadn't even heard of. On each page, there is a small circle with a map showing the island. My only real complaint about this book is that the little map area usually had such a wide global view that it was actually hard to pick out the island, even with it circled. He should have given just a brief glimpse of enough of the rest of the world so we could put it in context, but he definitely should have zoomed in on the specific islands for each page. Other than that, it was a pretty fun tour of islands all around the world.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

This ABC picture book is full of interesting and fun facts about all kinds of Islands. It has animals, places and objects that are indigenous to the various islands. The pages are bright and colorful and the information is interesting and educational. Fun

What a great way to learn the alphabet and about islands. Getting facts about different islands and learning the alphabet is fun for kids. Wonderful illustrations to go with the facts and alphabet. Would recommend!
