Matsuri Hino was born on January 24 in Hokkaido. She was a bookshop keeper who one day decided to become a manga artist, and all of nine months later, in 1995, she published her first manga title, Kono Yume ga Sametara (When This Dream Is Over), in Japan's LaLa DX magazine.

Warnings: threat to child, coerced medical experimentation, death of loved one

As Yuki and Zero are working hard to eliminate the bombing threats, another threat arises in the form of someone kidnapping vampire kids. During a search in underground tunnels, Zero gets captured and they have to mobilize fast to free him, taking help from the vigilante group that is now being led by Maria Kurenai. After that, Zero and Yuki have a talk about having a baby of their own, and we know Ren is coming, but what is interesting is that it is revealed that Ren is actually a girl. (One wikia search later, I found out that it was an error to have her referred to as 'he' in previous volumes). Anyway, Ai of course dotes on her little sister!

Meanwhile, Kaien Cross' health declines further and the situation with the vampire-human peace becomes more fragile, as public sentiment against vampires is stoked negatively by the new mayor. A trap worsens things for them, as they show a hungry vampire to scare the populace, and Yuki and Zero have more problems to face even if they get the bombing thing under control. Now, the thing is that while I like this storyline about Yuki and Zero having to lead their people through these troubled times where anti-vampire sentiment is rising, the fact that so many characters from the original series make an appearance again hinders the storyline. I read that series years ago, so obviously I don't remember much of the minor characters and events - a guide to key players and their relationships at the start of the volume would be a good idea. Also, I know they have long lifespans, and we need to skip forward to relevant parts, but giving us barely any idea about how much time has passed gives the plot a rushed quality.

It's a really good volume, but it felt like it was lacking something the last one had, but I can't put my finger on it...
Which is kind of hilarious considering there's actually a kiss scene in this one.

I'm really happy that I'm visiting this universe again. I love reading about Yuki and Zero. They are one of my OTP. However, what I wasn't fond of is the time jumping. This series has a tendency to jump back and forth and I'm not always sure of the sequence. I'm also not fond of the fact that everyone looks so similar in their original art style, but now we've added their chidlren and it almost feels like a copy paste job because the children look like exact replicas of their parents. There are moments where I think its Yuki, only to find outburst it's Ai.

The overall story is really enjoyable and I can't wait to see how we get from A to B.

I feel like this spinoff series is a lot more mature than the original. I'm loving the actual displays of what it would be like to be immortal: the death of loved ones, and the change in culture and thought. I love the idea that if someone has no regrets, they turn into pure white ash after death. Vampires are usually portrayed as heartless or cold and aloof, but Hino's vampires feel the same gambit of emotions humans do, and I feel that it builds a more realistic society. It's not just all glamourous parties and blood lusts: there is something tangible, something worth fighting for.

Beautiful illustrations, but I think I just don't enjoy the format or the content of "Memories" as much as the original Vampire Knight series. I'm just not as interested in the small snippets showing various characters doing normal, domestic things like planning weddings and settling down with kids. It's nice and all, but I just really miss the brooding tension and the drama and the long, dark, complicated story arcs of the original. It is a vampire story, after all; it's a bit disappointing that the vampires seem to have lost their fangs. My favorite scene in this edition was when Ai offered to "turn" Kaien because it reminded me of the dark themes of the original series.

I also feel like we don't get enough stories or background of anybody in this new series. We don't know much about Yuki's children, nothing about Yori and Aido's children, if Ruka and Akatsuki or Rima and Shiki even have children. As much as I love Yuki, Zero, and Kaname, it feels like their story has been told, and it would be nice to get to know the next generation and their stories more.

Also, that gender reveal at the end through me for a loop.

The way Hino lets the story play out in and between the panels allows the reader to fill in much of the memories without unnecessary exposition. The artwork is gorgeous, as usual, and the emotions palpable. As a die-hard fan of the original series, I love getting to continue on with these characters and hope we'll have another volume to look forward to soon.

Y por fin, abordan ya cuando Ren nace, que fue en esa época de conflictos. Con como muere el director Kaien Cross.

Fue un tomo con muchas emociones.

The plot of this is developing more and I enjoyed seeing Yuki's, Kuran side appear. The only downside is one of my favourite characters didn't survive, that's a bit annoying. One other thing that confused me was Ai's sibling, I always thought Ren was a boy, not a girl.

C'est toujours un plaisir que de retrouver Yuki et Zero (surtout lui haha). Le fait de savoir "l'après", de découvrir tout ça, je ne m'en lasse pas. Un point un peu négatif par rapport à la révélation finale du tome, mais rien de grave, je m'y attendais un peu !

It's always a pleasure to find again Yuki and Zero (especially him haha). Knowing "the after", to discover all that, I don't get tired. A point a little negative for to the final revelation of the volume, but nothing serious, I expected that a little !

Somebody is bombing cities, trying to disrupt the peace between humans and vampires. Zero and Yuki investigate and in the process, Zero gets captured. Yuki rescues him in the end, and they make the decision to have Jun, Yuki's second daughter.
