Scientists say that every time you go into the deep sea to take a sample, you find a new species…
This one found us.
Welcome to The Kingdom. The world’s most expensive underwater hotel located miles beneath the surface of the ocean. A playground for the super-rich, it’s destined to be the most unique attraction ever made. For its grand opening party, only a handful are invited, including head of security Axel Calder and reporter Priya Christie.
But man was not meant to be down this far.
Something has made its way inside and is hunting its new prey – man. Calder and Priya need to band together with the survivors to make it to the surface. But this predator is cunning. It is deadly, hungry, and it is coming. As their number dwindle, the survivors realise that their only hope is to fight harder than ever before.
Oh, nice, I'm the first one to review this book and I've got good things to say about it. So I was browsing the thrills and scares Kindle Unlimited offers and there’s Severed Press, pretty much unignorable for its adorably luring covers and dedication to creature features. I selected this one out of their catalog based on the length (user friendly 134 pages), cover (tentacles, obviously) and author’s name (it’s Jethro, I’m sorry, but that’s just too good). But realistically I did expect this to be a kind of low rent cable ready crapfest. Lo and behold, though, it was actually pretty good, Surprise, surprise. Go in with low expectations and come out thoroughly entertained. The plot is a straight forward creature feature from below. An arrogant billionaire builds a spectacular underwater resort for the one percenters to experience the latest word in luxury. And that word out to be…help, a pleading terrified sort of help. Usually followed by a series of profoundly uncomfortable slurping sounds and ominous silence. Because, of course, once they get there, they are not alone. There’s something waiting in the murky waters, it’s dangerous, hungry and it likes to play with its food. The cast quickly narrows down to a small group of designated survivors, a couple of security guys, a couple of reporters, a couple of stranglers. And then it’s all one horrifying action sequence to get out. But it’s fun, it’s so much fun. I forgot how much fun these books can be when done right, because so many of them are done wrong i.e. dumbly. This one got it going on, with likeable characters, awesomely creepy creature, terrifically claustrophobic ambiance and so on. Read it at night if you can, it’s an easy one sitting read and you’ll be thoroughly entertained. The ending seems sequel ready. I wouldn’t be opposed to checking out further adventures, who knows what fun creatures they’ll feature. Recommended.
Decided to read something other than a Bigfoot story. This one is about a deep sea hotel that is boarded by the rich snobs and an ancient evil.
The story is decent and I do like the characters other then I wanted to strangle the ones that kept saying "luv", "mate", and "bruv". These are grown people we are talking about - made me nuts.
The story reminded me of "Leviathan" the movie in many ways. Kind of a mix of 'Leviathan" and "The Thing". Still, I enjoyed it - thought it was well developed.
