With the troubles of Madame Kurenai freshly behind them, the crew of the EDENS ZERO faces yet another setback: the infamous Drakken Joe. He's taken an interest in their legendary ship, and begun his plans to take it, along with any treasures it may carry. And just like Shiki, he has a formidable crew, too. Meanwhile, Rebecca has a nightmare that feels all too real to be merely a dream...
Hiro Mashima (Jap: 真島ヒロ) is a Japanese manga artist.
He gained success with his first serial Rave, published in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine from 1999 to 2005. His best-selling work, Fairy Tail, published in the same magazine from 2006 to 2017, became one of the best-selling manga series with over 72 million copies in print. Mashima began the currently ongoing Edens Zero in 2018.
Fairy Tail won the Kodansha Manga Award for shōnen manga in 2009, and Mashima was given the Harvey Awards International Spotlight award in 2017 and the Fauve Special Award at the 2018 Angoulême International Comics Festival.
Beyond the events of volume 9, we delve into a new arc. Following the gathering of the shining stars, the Edens Zero crew land on the ship lead by Drakken Joe. What unfolds is an adventure for Shiki, Weisz, Rebecca, Homura, Pino and Happy. Overall, was a fun read and will be continuing this 5 stars (in my opinion) series very soon.
As always for those unaware of Hiro Mashima's overwhelming insistence of drawing female characters in revealing clothes and/or nude are a pretty common thing basically becoming a trope on its own and this volume is no exception so if you are offended by the sexification of females (and at least one male in a tub shot too) whether fake or real then maybe skip Hiro Mashima series altogether. Now for the rest we have completed the Sun Jewel arc so Homuru is taking her place along side the other Shining Stars members as a replacement for the brave Valkyrie so it is time to get a little dirty as the crew faces some of their most difficult challenges yet.
Drakken Joe is not taking no for an answer having discovered the Eden Zero once more after they lost him once. I am not sure If it was meant to be an influence but I get a vibe like I have seen the ship Belial Goer and the closet thing I can think of is Braniac's skull ship in DC comic books (though the ship here is not a skull.) In the mean time Now that she has her own Ether gear Rebecca is ready for action even if a mysteriously dark dream shook her up a little bit after soaking in the ether hot spring to long. With Drakken Joe's insistence Captain Shiki and a few of the crew depart the Eden Zero and land on Drakken's mammoth ship to convince him one way or another the errors of his ways but Drakken Joe has a few surprises for the crew as well making a disagreement into an all out manhunt as some of Drakken Joes most powerful minions are called into action. Hopefully Rebecca's dreams were just dreams and that things don't get too dark from here on out but we'll just have to see.
Btw seperti biasa artwork Mashima sensei memberikan "service" yg hebat utk pembaca cowo LOL. Bahkan utk sudut pandang di beberapa panel, terlihat artististik tanpa mengindahkan sisi ecchinya hha
So we finally start the Draken Joe Arc that has been built up for quite awhile and it starts off pretty good. And I do like the call backs to other Mashima works like the Element 4 being an evil group that works for Joe. Also the fight with Laguna was pretty creative as his method of fighting is trying to make others cry so he can turn them into water. While he does use more traditional water user attacks but it was creative to see another take on that type of power. Also like we get to see more of the 4 Shining Stars in actual action instead of them being purely support.
This book is constantly on the brink of some great reveal that makes it exceptional. Failing that, the book is consistent, but lacking in any unique narrative. I hope this book finds its legs quickly, so we can all read a modern classic, instead of the fan service I feel like I am reading now.
The start is quite slow but its expected at the start of a new arc, there are some discussions about new powers along with arriving at a new destination.
Once they get there they are met with a new enemy on two fronts!
I'm looking forward to seeing how the arc develops
Okay, first off! Etherion Master?! Like the Etherion that Witch just showed to Homura?!?! That kind of Etherion?! And what was with that dream?!! What kind of spa is that?! What is it doing to Rebecca?!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
4/5 After leaving Sun Gem the crew is followed by the Oracion Seis ship Belial Goer. Here we are introduced to many members of Oracion Seis but particularly the Element 4. More fun and high jinx ensue as the battles begin.

Witch and the Elemental 4 on the cover of volume 9.
I honestly wish I could rate these higher. Yes I love anything Hiro puts out. But dayum am I hooked on this series. The story continues with Homura stepping more into her new role for the crew. This kicks off a new arc with Drakken Joe being the focal point. Rebecca begins to understand her abilities more and a slew of other things I won't spoil!
This volume starts a new story arc. It's a little slow at the beginning and not up to the earlier volumes. Several new characters are added and that slows things down too. I'm sure the fun and excitement will come back, so I'll be looking for volume 10 when it comes out.
I NEED to buy the next one because this series is AMAZING and it has VERY well written characters and a GREAT and interesting storyline. This series is sooooo good. Also, I love the cover for this volume. Witch is the best!
