They live to protect. They live to fight for honor and justice. They live to love the women who have captured their souls. These are the Sons of Texas, from New York Times bestselling author Donna Grant.

Knowledge is power.

As a double agent, Maks Petrov has been so many people, he doesn't know who he is anymore. While he prefers to work alone, taking down an organization like the Saints requires some help--even if he loathes asking for it. Just one day in the company of a sexy, fearless, and brilliant information broker makes him realize what he's been missing in life...and fantasizing about what he could have.

Eden Fontaine thought she knew the evils of the world until she was confronted with knowledge of the Saints and what they've done--and still could do. Lucky for her, she has Maks by her side, a trained operative who not only makes her feel safe and cared for but also makes her blood run hot. Eden's never thought much about settling down, but Maks makes her crave a world without the Saints and the handsome guardian by her side for all eternity.

With the Saints upping their game, Maks and Eden have one shot at assembling the intelligence necessary to take down the evil organization for good. If they can, they may have a chance at the happily ever after they both deserve.

First Impressions
The Guardian is the last book in the "Sons of Texas" and its a story that I absolutely adored in every way. What a finale that this one turned out to be. We have really had the plot and world building escalating throughout the series and in The Guardian we get to see the story actually get finalized the way that I have been looking forward to. I can't believe that I have finished this series, and I have to say that this one was such a blast to read. I did find this one quite interesting and was far different than I expected, but then this author really threw some loops here and tons of thrills to really keep you engaged and on the edge of your seat all the way through.

First Line
"They know."

Summary
In The Guardian, the story starts out when Maks, who is a double agent, is warned off that his covers are blown and he ends up joining forces with a information broken who ends up in danger herself. Eden Fontaine, is put in danger, the moment that she discovers the Saints and what they are about and so she and Maks come together to help each other as they are both determined to destroy this organization who are out to destroy the world. While they are on the run, they end up finding common ground and a chemistry that builds between them alongside with a unexpected love. But will they alongside the Loughman's be able to destroy the Saints and save the world from a dangerous pandemic?

What I Loved
The Guardian was such a fun story to read. I absolutely adored how Donna Grant built the plot in this story and how we see everything come to a close and it was done in a way that keeps you on edge all the way through. This series has been a reminder on why I need to read this author much more often than I have in the past. I really was so endeared by this story here. I adored Maxs and all the secrets that we end up learning about how, how he connects to the top members of the Saints and his connection to the Loughman family.

The romance that builds betweens Maks and Eden was so endearing. From the beginning of their relationship, they act like a solid team and almost have a psychological connection as they are able to almost sense what the other is thinking or needing. They really balance each other out, he is the brawn and she is the brain. haha But the way that they are willing to work together and the manner in which they bring down the saints is so satisfying. I do wish there had been more interaction with the Loughman family a bit more but it still ended up being a satisfying read.

What I Struggled With
Nothing much really.

Narration
Absolutely had a blast with this narration. Immediately engages you into the story and really tackles just right the connection between Maks and Eden.

Overall View
The Guardian was a sensational read that delivered such deep emotion and relatable characters you want to cheer on throughout their journey.

EXCERPT

It wasn’t even dawn when Eden exited her flat. Maks kept to the shadows across the street as he noted her tight expression and the way she looked around nervously. She had replaced her tote with a backpack and a crossbody purse. Her steps were quick as she began walking.

Maks had wondered all night if she had found his message. It had been hours after he left her flat before a light had come on. And it and more had remained on until just a few minutes before she left. From his spot across the street, he saw that no one had come into the building aside from the delivery woman earlier. He waited, his gaze searching the shadows. If anyone was watching her, now would be the time they made their move to trail her.

Sure enough, two men fell into step behind her at different places. Maks looked in the opposite direction, but there was no sign of anyone else. He discreetly peeled himself from the shadows and started walking in the same direction as Eden and the two men.

When he realized her direction, Maks became curious as to where she was going via train. She didn’t stop to purchase a ticket once inside the terminal. Instead, she went straight to the platform for the trains heading to Budapest.

Both men following her hurried to buy tickets. Maks didn’t have that kind of time. He got next to someone going toward the platform with their voucher out to scan and bumped into them, taking their ticket at the same time. He dropped some money into the man’s coat pocket to make up for the theft. With his cap pulled down low, Maks used his travel document and got through before the other two men had even received their tickets.

Maks moved in behind Eden. He kept one eye on her and the other on anyone who looked suspicious. Just as the 5:47 a.m. train arrived, the men rushed onto the platform. They hadn’t seen him yet, which meant that they weren’t looking for him. Their mission was Eden. Maks wasn’t sure if that indicated they were supposed to just follow her or kill her. Regardless, he was going to put an end to all of it soon.

The moment the doors of the train opened, Eden got on and headed toward the front of the third car. Maks stayed behind, letting others go before him. The two goons got on in separate cars. Maks left the one in Eden’s car and went after the other. With long strides, he caught up with the man quickly enough.

Maks bumped into him roughly. “Entschuldigung sie. Excuse me,” he said.

The man barely looked his way, his attention on trying to keep his focus on Eden. Maks used that to his advantage and elbowed him in the back of the head, slamming the man’s face into a metal pole and knocking him out instantly.

Maks grabbed him before he could fall and said loud enough for others to hear, “You shouldn’t have had that last drink.”

The onlookers shook their heads and went back to doing what they had been doing before. Maks lugged the man to one of the seats in the back of the car and used the guy’s scarf to bind his hands to the rail just as the train left the station. He took a few minutes to check the man’s pockets and grabbed his wallet and mobile phone.

Maks then straightened, putting the items into his coat pocket before walking through the car and into the next one where Eden and the other goon were sitting. Eden was facing the front of the train, situated near the window. Her head was turned to look outside, her leg bouncing nervously up and down. The man sat diagonally to her across the aisle, his gaze locked on her. Eden was oblivious to it, as most would be. Only the trained knew what to look for in such situations.

Once more, the goon didn’t look his way. It was as if his only target was Eden, and he believed nothing could stand in his way of completing a successful mission. Too bad for him and his buddy that Maks was involved.

Maks sat across from the man and waited for him to look his way. It didn’t take long. It was just a glance, but the goon did a double-take and realized that Maks wasn’t just any passenger. Maks smiled and raised his brows, inviting the man to make a move.

The goon didn’t disappoint. He lunged, going straight for Maks’ throat. Maks kicked the man’s legs out from under him and used the downward momentum of the goon’s body to punch him in the throat. The man went limp, gagging as he struggled for breath. Maks then knocked him out with a quick punch to the goon’s jaw.

Across the aisle, Eden stared at him with wide eyes and a shocked expression. He ignored her for the moment and propped the man back up in his seat. Maks looked around, but no one seemed to be paying attention since everyone was on some kind of electronic gadget.

Maks then moved into the spot next to Eden. She squished herself as small as she could against the window. He didn’t look her way. “If I wanted you dead, I would’ve done it last night in your flat while you slept.”

There was a beat of silence as anger mixed with fear in her expression. “That was you?”

“You obviously did a search like I wanted. Otherwise, two men wouldn’t have been following you.”

“Two? What?”

He turned his face to her then, noting her confused and wary expression. “They’ve been on your tail since you walked from your flat, where I was also watching. The other one is in the car behind us.”

“Are…are they dead?” she asked in a whisper.

“No.”

She swallowed, the sound loud even on the high-speed train. “Is Maks your real name?”

“Yes.”

“You sound American.”

He looked forward then and released a breath. “Because I am.”

“How did you find me? Why did you come into my apartment? What are the Saints? Why are you still following me?”

With every question, her body uncurled, muscles going tight with annoyance and indignation. He looked at her once more. “I followed you from the office yesterday. I wanted to find out who you were. The Saints are a secret organization that has infiltrated every government, military, and security agency in the world. And I knew if you looked into them, they’d send someone. And…I need your help.”

She turned her head away to look out the window. She was silent for several minutes. Maks had taken a risk by asking for her help. He wasn’t sure why he’d done it. Maybe it was because of how he’d seen her yesterday—carefree and happy. If she was involved with the Saints, they wouldn’t have sent men after her.

At least, that was his thought.

“It’s not nice to break into someone’s house,” Eden stated before she looked at him.

He met her hazel eyes. “Extreme times call for extreme measures. I had to know what kind of person you were.”

“So, the words you left on my computer were a test?” she asked, her eyes narrowing in anger.

Max shrugged. “Call it whatever you want.”

“You wanted me to prove that you can trust me?” She rolled her eyes, snorting. “You’re the one who should be gaining my trust. Not the other way around.”

Without a doubt, she intrigued him. Eden wasn’t used to his way of life. Her reactions since the night before proved that. And yet she had spunk despite her fear. She might have a bright outlook on life, but she wasn’t one to be taken advantage of either.

“All right,” he said. “You have a point. However, you’re the one who has been doing research on me.”

She settled more comfortably in the chair. “That’s actually not true. My coworkers are, as well. Though it’s difficult to do when you don’t exist.”

“How good are you at your job?”

“Good enough that SynTech offered me a package to work for them—including moving me to Vienna—that nearly doubled what I was making on my own. And I was making a very good living working for myself.”

Maks bit back a smile. Yeah, she had pluck in spades. Which was a good thing because she was going to need it.

“The entire floor of IBs were looking for anything and everything on you,” she continued. “What did you do to get someone so riled up?”

Maks decided not to answer that for the moment. He might want her help, but that didn’t mean he trusted her. Not with the information that he was a spy. “You found something. In Amsterdam.”

She froze, once more taken off guard. Her visible reactions helped for him to put more trust in her, because reactions like that couldn’t be faked. Not to someone like him, who had been trained to look for anything that wasn’t genuine.

“How could you possibly know about that?” she demanded.

He lifted a shoulder in a shrug. “I saw you at your desk through my scope. You were watching footage of me in the train station.”

“Damn,” she mumbled and looked forward. “I never expected that.”

Maks took pity on her when he saw the amount of stress she was under. “I shouldn’t have gotten you to look into the Saints.”

Her head snapped to him. “Why did you pick me?”

A lie filled his head, but he didn’t say the words. “I saw you yesterday. People aren’t usually that cheerful going into work, but you were. I then did some recon on the building and spotted you again.”

“I saw you yesterday at lunch. Twice,” she said with a firm nod.

Maks didn’t confirm or deny that.

“I thought I was losing my mind,” she said more to herself than to him.

He tilted his head to the side. “Why didn’t you report me to your boss? I’m sure you handed over the train station footage.”

She cut her eyes to him and twisted her lips. “Actually, I didn’t. Another coworker of mine, Kyle, was the one who used his special algorithm to locate where you’d been. I kinda stole that information from him and used it myself.”

He couldn’t help but smile at her kinda stole comment. “That still doesn’t explain why you didn’t turn over the information.”

“I don’t know,” she said with a half-hearted shrug. “From the moment they gave us the picture of you, there was something about you that pulled at me. At first, I thought it was because finding information on you was a challenge, but,”—she paused, a frown creasing her brow—“it’s more than that. Yet I can’t explain it.”

Maks knew precisely what she was talking about because he’d felt the same thing about her from the moment he first laid eyes on her. “I’m glad you didn’t tell anyone about that.”

“I didn’t tell anyone that I thought I saw you yesterday, either.” She rolled her eyes, chuckling softly.
“I’d stayed up the night before doing more digging on you from my home computer, so I chalked it up to me being tired.”

Now he knew why she’d slept for so long. “Did Kyle find me?”

“Yeah. He was in the office with the suits yesterday when I left for lunch. I’m not sure how much he found. My guess is that he didn’t see the footage of you jumping in front of the train, though.”

Maks was even more impressed that she’d found that. “I was being tailed and had to run.”

“Tailed? How did they find you?”

“They knew I was in Amsterdam since I’d been found earlier that night. It made sense to watch public transportation.”

She licked her lips. “I got a decent look at your face on the CCTV from the station. You did good keeping yourself from being seen, but after you got to the other platform and walked with the crowd up the steps to the main floor, they got a good shot of three-quarters of your face.”

Shit. He couldn’t make mistakes like that. While he couldn’t account for every camera—because some were hidden on purpose—he should’ve expected one to be in that spot to catch those coming up from the trains below.

“How did you know who was looking into you?” Eden asked in puzzlement.

“I have a friend who is a hacker. She found the company that was hired to dig up information about me.”

Eden glanced away. “I see. Did you intend to pick someone to help you?”

“No,” he admitted. “I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. I needed to look at the building, learn more about the company and their employees, and go from there.”

“You don’t seem concerned that someone is looking for you.”

Maks drew in a deep breath and slowly released it. “It comes with the territory, I suppose.”

“How do you live like this?”

“I suppose you get used to it.”

She looked out the window, nodding absently. Then she faced him. “Are you a spy?”

He stared into her hazel eyes, a dozen lies coming to mind. Whoever was looking for him had already blown his cover. So what if someone knew his profession? He was going down, and he was going to take anyone and everyone associated with the Saints down with him.

“Yes,” he replied.

Her eyes widened briefly. “I didn’t expect you to admit it.”

“I usually don’t.”

“Why tell me, then?”

He smiled, chuckling softly. “Damned if I know.”

Maks Petrov is a double agent. He plans to bring down the secret organization known as The Saints alone. His cover is blown when Maks receives an unusual text from a FSB agent. He unwittingly drags Eden Fontaine into his perilous crusade. Maks keeps her safe as they evade The Saints’ henchmen. However, the woman makes him yearn for an ordinary life away from danger and espionage. What danger awaits Maks and Eden? Will they become just another causality?

Eden Fontaine is an information broker, a person specifically trained to look for particular data. Her company is tasked with finding prudent information on Maks Petrov. The man proves to be an enigma, one that Eden itches to solve. However, her safe world is turned upside down when Maks involves her in his vendetta. She intends to use her skillset to unearth the necessary evidence to bring The Saints to justice. Will Eden and Maks win the war against The Saints?

I vaguely recall Maks from the prior books. In my defense, it has been some time since I last visited this series. I admire Maks’ insistence on confronting The Saints alone rather than endangering his friends. He understands that the Loughmans have been through enough, and they deserve a respite. I adore Maks’ selflessness. He is willing to sacrifice his own happiness and life so that others can live the way they want. What I like the most about Maks is how he willingly listens to Eden’s point-of-view. He recognizes that her strengths and knowledge lie elsewhere, so she comes up with solutions he would overlook.

Eden continuously proves that she is the perfect balance for Maks. She understands that the world is not perfect; however, she had never been exposed to the world’s darkness until Maks. I like how Eden listens to her instincts. She never disregards them since they have never led her wrong. I adore Eden’s sense of justice. She refuses to wait around for someone else to solve the problem when she can do it. What I love the most about Eden is how she rekindles Maks’ hope for the future. She does not allow him to play the martyr but reminds him of the good things in life.

THE GUARDIAN is book five in Donna Grant’s romantic suspense series, SONS OF TEXAS. It is necessary to read the prior books to understand the events leading to the climax and the characters involved. I like that Callie and Wyatt, the couple from THE LEGEND, book three in the series, make frequent appearances throughout the story. I would have loved if the other couples played pivotal roles in this story.

THE GUARDIAN is a nail biting and action-packed conclusion to a gripping series. I like how the author included our world’s current pandemic into this storyline. I am happy that the author returned to this series long enough to finish it, and I am sad to see it end.

This is the final book in the Sons of Texas series, and has Maks Petrov as the double agent hero. The prior four books are building to this, the conclusion of the story that started with The Hero. With a storyline that could come straight from the headlines of newspapers and news broadcasts, the reader has followed each character who resolves a part of the bigger, badder picture. This book is as exciting to read as the previous four, and just as detailed. With only passing references to the brothers and their wives who star in the first three books, this one follows Maks, and the woman, Eden Fontaine, caught up in trying to bring down the organization that is determined to bring chaos to the world. The story is satisfying until the final chapter, and the Epilog. Things happen that resolve the story, but with a pop and not a bang. The entire book is worth reading, and needs to be read in order for the stories to make sense, but be aware that you might feel that a lot more of the story could have been told. Donna Grant is an excellent writer and storyteller, and I’d give this one 4.5 stars if I could because of the rushed feeling I had upon finishing The Guardian. The entire Sons Of Texas series is an wonderful collection, and every story in it enjoyable. I received an ARC from Donna Grant to read, and this review is my honest opinion.

The end is upon us as the final book in The Sons of Texas Series and their battle with the evil that is The Saints is about to enter the world. It's intense and thrilling as Maks and Eden race against time to gather as much information as they can before The Saints catch up to them. It's a roll of the dice with no safe place to go and untold enemies all around them. Maks is a loner, someone who has come to terms with his choices in life and where they will ultimately lead him. Until Eden. She is fiercely talented, trusting to a fault and everything he could possibly want in a women. If he was free to be with her. The last thing he wants is to put her in more danger. Eden knew from the moment she saw Maks that there was something about him. It was more than just a physical attraction. She saw him for who he really was and everything that happened from then on out was a choice she made. If only Maks would choose a future. With the Loghmans on their side they are ready to make a final stand. For mankind.

How did I not know Donna Grant wrote romantic suspense??? This is my first taste of her Sons of Texas series, and even though it is the last book in the series I was able to follow along without issues. I plan to go back and read all the others to find out more about the characters mentioned. I loved Maks and Eden. Eden was a strong woman and I fell for Maks almost immediately. Even though I haven’t read the other books yet, I am sad to eye this end. I really hope we get more books in this genre from her because she is amazing at it!

I am kind of disappointed in this ending! I could not put this book down and kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. The other books in this series were so action packed and suspenseful. I was expecting the same thing with this one. Unfortunately it was lacking, and it wrapped up way to nicely in a matter of a page. Just wasn’t a fan! However, I did enjoy the characters and continued storyline.

This is Maks and Eden's story and the ending of the Sons of Texas series. The book if packed with suspense with some romance thrown into the mix. While this book can be read as a stand alone, it would be better overall to read the series in order from beginning to end.

The Guardian was an outstanding finale to a stand out series! Maks has definitely been the one character I was the most curious about since reading The Legend. He's been an enigma wrapped in mystery and deep fried in secrets that I have been dying to find out! And this book did NOT disappoint!

This book involves Maks and Eden, an American working in Europe as an information broker. With one wrong move, Maks becomes The Saints (an evil douche group) number one priority, but he knows he cannot bring this organization down alone. He needs help and he gets it in the form of Eden. While her skills and intelligence are what made him recruit her, it's her optimism and outlook on life that have Maks wanting to keep her safe. Even knowing that her life is in danger, Eden is willing to put her life on the line to dismantle The Saints.

I personally love both characters of this book. Maks has always intrigued me but hearing his story and the reasoning behind it made me just want to give him a hug. It was a huge sacrfice on his part and made me love him even more for what he was willing to do for the good of...well...everyone. And Eden just made me wish I was a little more like her. Her optimism to always look for the positive is definitely a trait to be desired nowadays and not something you see in many books. But it was her outlook that made Maks turn his mission from suicidal to survival. From the beginning they are opposites, definite ying and yang and it made the story all the more realistic.

Donna totally added some real life situations in this book that played in perfectly and offered a phenomenal connection to this story for every reader. Well done Donna! She also brings back characters from previous books, namely my favorite couple, Wyatt and Callie, and shows how everyone is working together to bring these douches down. The Guardian is filled with action and suspense with a little bit of loving added in because...DUH. Epic conclusion to a splendid military series!

I've received this book as an ARC Angel for an honest review.

I loved every single second of this story and cannot say enough that I am glad I was not denied the chance to read this story of a true protector as Maks proved once and for all he deserved the title of The Guardian. The story weaves such a dramatic story and even pulls in a bit of truth that some might find a little bit disturbing in our current climate, but I loved how Donna was able to incorporate that and find a way to give a unique view on the world events. Eden was an intelligent, resourceful, sweet and amazing heroine with a heart of gold who took a broken man and taught him how to live again and how to love. Her strength was inspiring, her wit and silliness giving Maks his first glimpse into a life of simplicity and making readers love her even more. Maks was the backbone and heart of the story, the man who was determined to save the world, even at the expense of his life and a future with the woman he loved, but at the same time he refused to go down without a serious fight. He kicked serious ass and in the end found a way to finally end the bastards that had become entirely too powerful and had destroyed his entire life to that point, giving him a chance for peace with his woman. The passion between Maks and Eden was apparent from the beginning, but they both fought it so hard in the beginning that the tension was thick enough to cut with a knife until the threat of almost losing one another finally showed them that giving in was the only course of action, then the heat was enough to keep them warm through a mountain blizzard. The only issue I had was that I wanted the story to be even longer and I would have loved to have more of the Loughman’s in the story, but that being said I love a happy ending where the evil is defeated and the good guys finally get a much deserved break. I am looking forward to whatever comes next from Donna Grant and can’t wait to see where her stimulating and sometimes terrifying mind takes readers next. Ended but not forgotten, the Sons of Texas went out with a bang and Maks proved that being a guardian means that you never give up and never surrender when faced with injustice.

The Guardian is the conclusion to the Sons of Texas series and is best enjoyed in it's proper reading order.

What I loved: Eden's willingness to do the work to help others, despite having been thrust into such a scary situation. No matter what she and Maks were up against, she kept a cool head and was always trying to think ahead to the next step. As far as heroines from this series, Eden's resiliency makes her one of my favorites.

This book is definitely more suspense than romance, and while the danger added an element of excitement to the relationship between Eden and Maks, I really had a hard time believing that they were anything more than a fling. I think that's due in part to the focus on all of the action that was occurring in regards to The Saints and their current machinations. The couple would spend days together and the reader was told that they had long, personal conversations. But that "telling" didn't allow this reader the experience of witnessing a deeper connection between the couple. Instead, most of the focus of the couple's interactions involved their traveling from one location to the next as they tried to evade capture. For that reason alone, this was my least favorite book of the series. Books are my escape from the real world, so learning that The Saints master plan involved something very similar to current world situations was just a bit too much realism for this reader. The focus on the evil happening around this couple, especially in the last few chapters, left me feeling anxious and there just wasn't enough content left in the story to turn those feelings around to the happy/giddy feelings I want from my romance reading selections. While this book was a miss for me, I do have to say that I did find the overall series enjoyable and I'm glad the good guys persevered in the end. I think romantic suspense readers that prefer more action than romance will find a lot to like in this story.

Maybe a very high 2. Close enough to a 3 though.

This book is fifth and presumably last in a series, but my first. While the romance part is standalone, the suspense isn't. I was totally able to read it as a standalone, but I think maybe I would have appreciated Maks more if I'd read the previous books.

I liked both Maks and Eden. Individually, they're smart, resourceful, and brave, and professionally (for lack of a better word), they make a good team. I was just baffled by the speed by which they both trusted and lusted after each other. As a double agent—triple agent?—Maks doesn't trust anyone, except for the protagonists of the previous novels. Yet he throws himself all in with Eden from the get go. Eden is equally trusting; she's never really had any reason to doubt her company or coworkers, but suddenly, she's suspicious. She has no problems trusting a guy who she knows is a spy on the run.

From there, Eden is the brains and Maks the brawn, and I like that. Eden is unspoiled and plucky, and she never whines. Maks is suitably protective and kind. In fact, he comes across more as a bodyguard than wily secret agent. It's a little weird that the best spy in the world had no idea what was in the material he'd been collecting. Thank goodness he's hooked up with an information broker.

The suspense is well paced up until the end, where it wraps up way too easily and abruptly. Maks' final confrontation with one of the baddies ends almost absurdly, and I went back to reread because I was sure I'd skipped a page. I hadn't.

Romance wise, I didn't particularly feel any true connection between Maks and Eden. They say and think the right things, but it seems more boilerplate than honest attraction. As partners, they're a perfect match. As lovers, meh.

I received a copy of this book for free. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion. Thanks!

Maks Petrov, a double agent for many different government organizations that he barely knows who he is. He hasn't seen his family in over a decade. Eden Fontaine, a brilliant information broker who assignment is to look Maks.

A secret organization called the Saints, which has infiltrated powerful institutions (governments, security agencies). Maks and Eden join forces to assemble intel to take them down with the help of the Loughmans.

Donna Grant’s The Guardian pulled me in from the very first chapter. As the final book in her Sons of Texas series, it had that blend of urgency and closure that made me want to keep turning the pages late into the night.

What I loved most was the pairing of Maks and Eden. Maks has lived so many lives undercover that he’s almost forgotten who he truly is, and that struggle felt very real. Eden, on the other hand, is sharp, capable, and unwilling to be overshadowed. Their chemistry isn’t just about attraction—it’s about trust, which made the romance feel earned rather than rushed. I appreciated that Eden wasn’t a passive character waiting to be rescued; she carried her weight and then some.

The suspense elements were gripping. The shadowy Saints organization created a constant sense of danger. More about feeling the thrill of the chase.

If there’s a critique, it’s that the villains felt more like a faceless evil empire than fully fleshed-out characters. I would have liked a little more nuance there. But honestly, the action and romance more than compensated.

As a series finale, The Guardian hit the right notes. It tied up threads, gave the main characters satisfying arcs, and left me with that contented feeling you get when a story has been brought full circle.

For me, it was a fast, entertaining read with just enough heart to balance the danger. If you like romantic suspense with equal measures of heat and high stakes, this one won’t disappoint.

This is the fifth and final book of Donna Grant's Sons of Texas series. I initially started this series because it was written by Donna Grant, and her books have never let me down, but I have to say while the series may be listed under romance, it is so so much more. If you haven't read the first 4 books, you have no idea what you are missing out on. Technically it "can" be read as a stand alone, but I wouldn't recommend it. I mean come on.... Its a SERIES. And if you don't like series because you hate waiting for the next book. Well Now is the time, because all 5 books in the series are now out.

If you are looking for a book where the hero and heroine hook up on page 2, this isn't the book for you. If you are wanting action, adventure, a secret group that is trying to rule the world, heroes that aren't perfect but would give their all for the people they love and heroines who are not only intelligent, but are as ready to fight as their heroes, then this series is a must read.

This final book was made for 2020 and Maks and Eden are the perfect match to go up against The Saints, with the help of the Loughmans of course.

The only thing I didn't like about this book is that it is the FINAL book in the series. Fell in love with the characters in the Sons of Texas series and am sad to see the series end. I don't often reread books, but this has a permanent place in my library. Loved this series so much I even bought it in audible for those long car trips where only a really good book can get me thru.

Final Note: Recommend starting when you have plenty of reading time. It's a book you just can't put down!

This is book 5 in the Sons of Texas series and I definitely would recommend reading the previous books before reading this one. In this one we get Maks Petrov and Eden Fontaine's story. Maks is a double agent who has lived as so many different people that he no longer knows exactly who he is. He prefers to work alone because not only is it safer but he never knows who he can truly trust. But in order to take down the Saints, he needs to ask for help. Eden is an information broker who thinks she knows the evils of the world. Until she is confronted by the Saints and what they can and will do. Thankfully Maks is there to keep her safe but he is also the one putting her in more danger. Now they are racing to bring all the information that has been collected together in order to stop the Saints, all while hoping for a future that keeps them together.

I absolutely loved this one!! I loved the glimpses we saw of Maks previously and I was definitely intrigued about his back story. And I definitely wasn't expecting it to be what it was! This book has suspense, action, and romance with that chemistry that I love. Maks is definitely an alpha male but he has this core of strength that I truly wasn't expecting. Eden is this sweet woman who is too smart for her own good. But she also has this strength to do the right thing, no matter that it may cost her everything. I loved them both! So while I am sad that this series has ended, I couldn't have asked for a better ending for everything! It ended perfectly!

The Grand conclusion to the Sons of Texas series is here and what an adventure it was. I would recommend this series to any reader; however, I do think it would be best to read the series in order to get the most out of it. And why not, hot alpha guys and strong-willed women.

Maks is a double agent, torn so many different ways over the years he no longer recognizes who he is. A loner in both the job and what little he has in a personal life, Maks only has a few true people he trusts. Taking down the Saints has become his mission, his reason for existing, there is nothing expect taking them down, but now he needs help. He needs information, and for that he needs Eden.

Eden Fontaine knows the under belly of the world, she deals in information, and that leads Maks right to her doorstep. Helping Maks though is not all its cracked up to be, sure he’s hot, but when the Saints set their sights on her, things change. Maks, ever the protector has her back, but now they have dodging bullets to their lists of things to be worried about.

Ep! I loved this so much! Who wouldn’t?! Maks and Eden’s chemistry is off the charts, and their sparks are hot, hot, hot!!

Maks is all action and hot, over the top alpha, then comes in sweetie pie Eden, who is just too innocent for her own good. With a will of iron and an inner strength that surprised me a little, Eden uses her smarts to do what she thinks is right and has not only the backing of Maks, but his protection too. What a great way to end this fantastic series!

The Gardian ARC Review: Every time I start reading one of Donna Grants books I can not put them down! Donna Grant’s amazingly wonderful imagination takes us on adventure with Maks Volkov who is on the run from an evil corrupt group The Saints.

With Mak’s is on the run and hiding from this dangerous group he comes upon Eden Fontaine a beautiful woman unknowingly working for the Saints.

This is book 5 in The Sons of Texas series and will leave you on the edge of your seat to see what happens next! This amazing book takes us on a journey with these 2 characters and their undeniable attraction with each other. Will Eden help Mak’s to take down The Saints and can they fight the burning desire they cannot deny. Donna Grant you have an amazing talent in so many different genres.

All I can say is Donna Grant you are an amazing Author you have nailed it again. I am giving this book 5 stars Donna Grant’s books are so easy to read and if you haven’t read her books before this one will certainly leave you wanting more. Maks Volkov has one mission, bring down The Saints. He's been deep undercover as a spy for so long his family thinks he's dead. But now he's on the run after a cryptic text from a surprising source.

Eden Fontaine is an Information Broker. One of the best. She can find out anything about anyone without breaking a sweat. So why can't she find anything about the company's new assignment. Who is Maks Volkov and why is he like a ghost?

Maks finds out he's being investigated by an IB (information broker) company. He wants to know why, is it The Saints coming after him or something else? Now he's crossed paths with Eden. Other than the fact she's beautiful he trusts her and tells her more about himself than he's shared with anyone in decades.

On the run Eden's life is blown apart by knowing what it's like to be on the receiving end of being investigated. And once she knows about The Saints she joins the fight. No one should ever have that kind of power.

This book is full of adventure. Danger. Plot twists. And yes, romance.....plenty of romance.

This is the conclusion of Donna Grant’s Sons of Texas series. The Loughmans are a Texas family who have served in the military for generations. The patriarch went on a mission that went wrong. When he goes missing, his sons are called home to find him and the bioweapon he retrieved. A society called the Saints has been infiltrating governments for generations to control the world.
Maks has fought alongside the Loughmans in their battle with the Saints. His personal mission against the group has changed the direction of his life. When his cover as a double agent is blown, he follows Eden and enlists her help. While running for their lives, Eden is using her talent for finding information to decipher the intel Maks has been collecting against the Saints. Once they figure out who the leaders of the Saints are, they are running against the clock to expose this evil to the world before it is too late.
I loved all the adventure and intrigue in this series. A few good people banded together to expose an evil group who wanted to control the world. They all were fiercely loyal and protective of each other. I wish we had got to see the whole group together to celebrate their victory. These characters deserved a grand send off after all the danger they encountered.

Bottomline: Really fun DG action packed romance but you need to read the series in order.

I took one star off this book because it really can't stand alone. You need the backstory to enjoy it. Since it's been a while since I read the others, it took me a bit to get into the storyline. I really wish it had a bit more of the over arc built in. That being said, this is a great book! The characters are strong, interesting and have good chemistry (not Rhi/Con level fire but its fun). This is a fun read, fast paced but pretty middle of the road for DG. There isn't quite as much spice as some of her other books and the fun unique settings are not quite described as well as in other books (In her past books I would swear I've been to the wilds of Scotland or the streets of Paris!)

I would recommend this book highly to a DG fan but if you aren't familiar with the author, do yourself a huge favor and start with the first in this series (Or the first in her Dark King's series called Darkest Flame. IT IS AMAZING! My favorite romance series ever: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...)

Double agent Masks Petrov is trying to bring down a hidden global empire before it destroys the world. Information broker Eden Fontaine is pulled into Maks' shadow world...a world she didn't know about, and wants to escape, but is determined to help him and bring down the evil organization.

The Guardian is a super fast-paced and exciting romantic suspense. I loved Maks and Eden so hard. The descriptions of the locations really pulled me into the story and made me feel like I was actually there and on the run with them. There's edge-of-your-seat danger, excitement, and steam. It's the ultimate good vs evil. I highly recommend.

*Note: this is the 5th and final book in the Sons of Texas series. I have not read the other books in this series. However, other than maybe missing some backstory/history, Grant did an excellent job of keeping me from being lost.
Again, highly recommend.

I received a copy of this book from the author via BookFunnel. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor.

The Guardian is the last book in the The Sons of Texas Series and it does not disappoint. This book is exciting and pulls you into the action from beginning to end. Maks is a loner, a spy who is undercover in several agencies, and an assassin who has come to terms with his choices in life and the fact he can never go back to his family. In a race to find out who is behind the Saints, Maks finds Eden who works for Syn and decides to leave her a clue as to who the Saints are. Maks and Eden race against time to gather as much information as they can before The Saints catch up to them. Eden is very talented and is good at finding information on people and with the information Maks already has, the clues start to come together. The Saints, one in particular, have lead Maks most of his life and he feels angry and betrayed. As the danger intensifies, Maks regrets pulling Eden into the mix. There is a connection they both share and has Maks wishing for things he knows he can never have. Maks and Eden along with the Loghmans on their side are ready to bring the Saints down once and for all.

This is one of the best series from Donna (outside of her Dark Warrios/Kings series) and I had followed it all the way through. I apparently missed book 4 - I don't even know how that happened - but that didn't take away from the story much less my enjoyment of this book.

This book opens to an intense scene and the book just takes off from there!

Maks is someone who wants to take care of this alone, to keep those he cares about out of the line of fire, but soon realizes he will need more than himself. In comes Eden, someone who is great at finding things, and is let in on what and who the Saints are.

Together they find themselves in a situation that brings to light more than they knew. They make a great team and in the end a great couple. I am definitely sad to see this series end, and I will be backtracking to book 4. I would suggest starting at the beginning because some stuff is better to read about than getting a glimpse of.

This is the final book in The Sons of Texas series. I've been anxiously awaiting this book since I finished The Defender.

Max's is a loner, a spy and assassin, trying to come to terms with his life. He's been so many people he no longer knows who he is. But, he's determined to take down the Saints, an organization who has become much too powerful. When he finds he needs help, he enlists the help of Eden Fontaine, a computer wiz who is a master at information gathering. Together they work to take down the Saints. But when things get too hot, Maks regrets getting Eden involved. He learns who he is when he discovers he'll do anything to keep her safe.

Donna Grant is a master at creating characters. I love the way Maks character develops, as he comes to accept himself and to realize he can have a future he thought was nothing more than a dream. This is a fantastic climax to a great series you'll want to read over and over.

All in audio, narrated by Carly Robins---Published 1990 yet it could be today! Hit too close to current anti-democracy mindsets for comfort, but a good series.

International covert military, political, suspense, and romance with a Texas ranching family of father and 3 sons, plus others in various military roles battling an evil world-wide organization. (The 'we're killing millions for the greater good' type of mindset.)

Romances with strong, capable women who were also involved in the operations, although more of the primary focus was on the situations and mystery than the romances.

The plots and hidden characters were revealed over the course of the series, building the story through all the books. You wouldn't get it through any individual books, so...whole series or not at all is my recommendation. Series as a whole gets 4.5 stars, rounded up.

First I've read by this author. I will be getting more!

Same review will be added to each book in the series.

The fifth of author Donna Grant's Sons of Texas books is an action packed finale to an amazing series. The Guardian features Maks Petrov and his plans to end the reign of The Saints. A group of secretive, power hungry people who have run the world for centuries.

Maks enlists the help of Eden Fontaine who works as an information broker. When she finds out the truth about The Saints she gratefully teams up with a much more experienced spy, Maks. The fact that they both have a very deep attraction to one another helps but it is their intelligence that will help them survive - or not!

Fantastic read and though there were times I forgot that this was part of the Sons of Texas series it was still one I could not put down. I am glad Ms. Grant was able to come back to the series but I will be sad to see the end of the Loughman's and those who were fighting the good fight from the beginning.

The Guardian
by Donna Grant

As the finale for The Sons of Texas, everyone expects it to be a big all out grand bang! And it didn’t disappoint. This story is so real, I felt like it was actually on last nights news.

Maks, surprised by a text, has put him on high alert. He is suddenly being followed and needs answers.

The hunt is on for him, and Eden, after looking at his photo, wants to be the one to find him.
But, Maks finds Eden and drags her into his danger!

Can just a hand full of people save the world? As the danger explodes and spreads can Maks guard Eden till the truth can be revealed?

This was an intense read, but loved every second of it. Perfect ending to this series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Guardian by Donna Grant is the first book I have read in the Sons of Texas series. Although I did not have the lead-up information, I never felt lost while reading The Guardian. It can certainly serve as a standalone novel. Maks is as spy on the run, who commissions help from Eden to uncover a secret government group who seem to be trying to take over the world.

The Guardian had me hooked right away. The storyline balances action-based thrills with the downtime of computer research and Maks and Eden getting to know each other. The scenarios never pause long enough to become stagnant, making it a well-rounded plot.

The Suspense and romance make The Guardian well worth a read. Even without the benefit of witnessing their past wrongs, watching the bad guy fall here was extremely satisfying.

Unbelievable series appears to have come to an end. What a rush! Maks has been a ghost this whole time, secretly helping the team out. However, this time he needs to rely on them and Eden for help. Eden is a genius when it comes to information research. She works wonders digging for all the dirt on The Saints. Maks finally gives us his story and why he wants to take the corrupt secretive group down. Definitely a fast paced book with Maks and Eden on the run. Not sure how Grant made a cave in the middle of a snow storm seem romantic but it worked! Absolutely wonderful series. Considering the world today it’s crazy to think of where the inspiration came for The Saints’ antics. My review was provided voluntarily after reading an early copy.

Although this is book 5, I believe, it can be read and understood as a standalone.

Maks and Eden are interesting characters. Both rely heavily on their gut instincts but their skill set is very different. Although I thought Maks was going to be a fairly typical spy character I was pleasantly surprised by his depth. He was quite well developed and therefore felt like a whole and we'll rounded person. Eden seems to be a little one dimensional in the beginning but she rounds out nicely. I think it helps that she has a lot of courage and a don't quit attitude.

The story itself has a nice pace. There are no huge lulls in the story where nothing is happening. It is an excellent lazy weekend read.

If you pick it up I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Happy Reading!
