A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. This book is packed with places to go and things to do right on our doorstep, who needs to go any further? Only criticism, its a huge and unwieldy book, you couldn't take it out on your travels!

Would Recommend

This book describes a good variety of things to see and do in the UK, whether you are interested in hiking or cycling, or would prefer to walk through pretty English villages, or are more interested in history. Also, some great tips about the best times to go and key transport links. I really liked the photos that were included with some of the things on this list - I just wish there was a photo for each suggestion.

Beautiful photos and a great selection of things to do. I am now attempting to persuade my family to engage in a 500 mile road trip round Inverness. Great for day-dreaming, but also for local trips which you might not have heard of.

I have been travelling to the UK regularly for over three decades. So, when I first picked up the book, I wasn’t sure if it would tell me anything new. Well, I was wrong. Going through the book, I now feel I’ve skipped over most of the UK. Anyhow, it's a great source of information, filled with several ideas for a vacation. However, because it is more of a coffee table book, and a thick one at that, I end up taking photos of the experiences that interest me so I do not forget about them when I’m in the UK.
