The fate of faery is in my hands, if it doesn't kill me first.
I barely managed to save my best friend from a brutal death at the hands of my enemies. We escaped unharmed, but we were not unscathed. My captive mate is still bound to my tormentor, and the fate of all Faery rests on my shoulders.
But now the past has come back to haunt me. My human lover has been accused of crimes against the fae, and those charging him are hell-bent on making him suffer. The fae have long memories, even longer grudges, and remorse matters little to them. Especially when it's only the life of one fragile, insignificant human. Revenge will do just fine.
Danger is closing in from every direction, and there is only one choice: petition the goddess of Faery to save Kent's life, even if he might die in the process. With the heart of Faery crumbling and my lover's life hanging in the balance, I must decide whether to gamble on faith, or face the darkness that's determined to take my life.

Breathless, book 4 of The Carnal Court series, by Devyn Sinclair @devyn_sinclair. I am a huge fan of Devyn’s & this book was no different!
OMG! This book! The cliffhanger! Yikes! I loved & hated this 4th installment of this series about Kari, Aeric, Brae, Kent, Verys, Urien, & Kiaran! If you like RH, no MM, Fae, PNR, more murder attempts, fated mates & a new Fae dimension then you'll love this series.
This series is amazing! I devoured all four books over the course of a week. I finished book four last night and I CANNOT wait to read the next book when it comes out. The descriptions of the different courts are breathtaking but not overdone. The characters are well developed but at the same time, I wish I knew more about each one. The relationship that each one has with the MC is unique and I do not come away from it feeling like anything is formulaic or contrived. I am on the edge of my seat here ... I honestly do not know what will happen next. I would like to have a little more background or interaction between the MC and her best friends. Or maybe a spinoff series where her friends find their own adventures in the Courts? :) I will definitely be reading more from this author!
**The editing in the first book is good but in the kindle versions there are increasing errors in books 3 and 4, most look like autocorrect issues. I noticed them, but the storyline is so good I chose to ignore and keep reading. As a former teacher, I may be more sensitive to this than some readers.
I'm baffled how this gem of a series is not getting enough love. Why? Seriously? This series is so freaking good with great world building and solid characters that you can get behind. You root for the good guys to win the day and you curse for the baddies to get their just desserts.
Book 4 is focused on Kent. Oh my, I have to admit that I wasn't a fan of him but he grew on me. Out of the 5 mates, I think he has the toughest (yes, yes I know Kiaran is under Ariana's thrall but he's still a Fae). It is a struggle for Kent because he doesn't feel the bond as he is human but he has been with Kari the longest. My heart ached when I read his back story, it was so tragic and I understand why he did what he did to those horrible Fae, also why he hated Aeric, Brae and Verys initially. Over the course of the series, he has changed so much and he calls them his brothers now with Aeric being his closest friend.
I'm super happy with Kent's story arch, I cannot wait for Book 5 (any idea when?) I really want to see that horrible Ariana gone!
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE FIRST 3 BOOKS IN THE CARNAL COURT SERIES.
I know I’ve said this before but these books just keep getting better and better. In Breathless, Kari is struggling to deal with the fact that Ariana seems invincible. After narrowly escaping her once again, Kari and her mates are doing everything they can to come up with a plan. But these plans are halted when Kent’s past, comes back to bite him.
This book focuses on Kent and we get to see his relationship with Kari grow more. I was not looking forward to this book as Kent was probably my least favorite of the guys but I have definitely changed my mind now. This book was short but so jam-packed full of adventure and suspense. That ending though! And I love that we are getting to see more of other courts in Allwyn. Now for the downfall of this book….this is the last book that has been released and there is no word on when the next one will be out! After that cliffhanger, I need more. Devyn, if you see this, please give us more of Kari and her mates!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
After the drama in the last book, one would think that Kari would catch a break… but nope. Ariana isn’t giving up anytime soon, which means that no one is safe. This time, it is one of her men that is in danger and we learn a bit more about their past. It’s tragic and so well written. This book is just so freaking good. I can’t get enough of this story or these characters. Thank goodness the next book is out soon and that I’ve already gotten to read it. If you haven’t started this series yet, what are you waiting for?
This was my favourite of the series so far. So much has happened with the constant threat to Kari and then with Kent. I was not sure how it all would work out but look fed most of it except Mark's decision in the end but I get why she did it. This book has everything from action and suspense to so much heat. So hard to put down can't wait to start the next book.
This was an excellent next installment in the carnal court series. I loved seeing more of Kari and her mates. My heart absolutely broke from Kent and everything he had to go through in this book but then ending for him was better than I could have hoped. I can’t wait to see how the series continues.
Doing a joint review for the whole series. First off never had a book with my name in it so obviously going to love the FMC just for repping my name lol. Seriously though Kari and her men gave me all the feels. Smiles, laughs and actually cried with Lari when she was in the closet. I felt that scene in my bones. Devyn does a great job with painting a picture. I have never wanted to be in a fictional realm as much as I did this. The crystal court sounded STUNNING! Great quick reads!
I’m enjoying the story, but the missing words, extra words, incorrect homonyms, misspellings… are driving me crazy. Annoyance pulls me out of the narrative over and over again.
I mean I figured we would het a cliffhanger but really?!! Everything is finally coming together and bam! Oh it's all going to break loose in the next book - I can feel it.
4⭐️ of course with the cliffhanger! But I knew it would go that way. I’m happy for Kent ❤️ but the ride was bumpy. The scene with him, Aeric and Kari in the prison was 🔥 hot!! I’m just burning through this series, but it’s so good!!
Great continuation of the series. This is a fast, short read that doesn’t feel complete. It probably should’ve been part of the previous book or the next one.
I feel like the series is starting to drag a bit. It took me a lot longer to finish this book because I just wasn't sure I cared enough to keep slogging.
Great addition to the series! I absolutely love this series and Devyn Sinclair's writing! These poor characters need a break! I love how even though there are major plot points and drama, the characters still spend time together and develop together! Great writing!
