5 ⭐️ One of the best bible studies of 2020. I loved it. I pray women everywhere will get together, sharing their lives with each other while doing into this study. I would even suggest that you don’t have to read Redeeming Love to reap the benefits of this book. You can even study this alone with God to enjoy the healing and blessings it provides.
The things I loved: *the truthfulness *biblical stories *realistic *the “things to think about” sections *comforting words
I highly recommend this and hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did.
Thank you NETGALLEY and the publisher for this ARC, in exchange for my honest review. ♥️
So there isn't much to say about this because you need to read the book itself, but the study is a great thing to go through with the book. I feel it is well thought out and makes the actual book so much better and deeper! I will definitely be suggesting this to my friends if they purchase the book!
I loved her book, Redeeming Love, and looked forward to this companion study. I was not sure what to expect but I did get a lot out of it with my study group. The only thing that withheld the 5 star was the questions at the end of each reading were really long; paragraphs with questions mixed in which made it confusing and frustrating. The content it worth pushing through, you never know what God will reveal to you through the study. The study is 6 weeks long and 3 days a week for reading and answering questions. This is a good study for those who are busy or looking for one which isn't too lengthy on homework.
A must-read follow-up to Redeeming Love. Francine Rivers uses the Old Testament prophet Hosea to explain God's long-suffering love for Judah and His still overwhelming love for believers who suffer trials.
Redeeming Love, the novel, had a major impact on my spiritual life when it was first released in 1991. Now I’m delighted to recommend this wonderful Companion Study to other fans of the novel. This study, full of important truths, shouldn’t be rushed. It is meant to be read, contemplated, and savored.
*I was given a copy of this book by the publisher and this is my honest opinion.

I am a fan of the Redeeming Love novel and often recommend it to readers if they are seeking a Christian influence. This guide is a wonderful tool to use to dig deeper. I received this as a ARC from Netgalley and WaterBrook and Multnomah. 5 stars. If you haven't read the book please read it first.
Meant to be savored! Share with others for an even more enriching look at this timeless classic. I have been a long-time fan of Redeeming Love and have often desired a focused, guided study on the powerful truths of love and redemption that are so eloquently written in this treasure. I was so excited to receive this book I inhaled it in one sitting! It does not disappoint, and the long wait was well worth it. Now, I am in the process of going through it a slower, more reasonable pace and look forward to being able to do with this with other women. Angela Hunt is the perfect co-author to accompany Francine Rivers in this study and together, they pen a richly meaningful look at the story that has impacted so many lives through Christian fiction. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own and freely given.
This was a good study, very insightful into the characters of Angel and Michael and their relationships with the Lord. We want to be like Michael but unfortunately, we are more like Angel in running away from He who loves us in spite of our sins and rebellion. I think it would good for both group and individual study.
“That’s what fiction is: it’s an eye-level representation of universal truths. The people and events of our story may not be factual, but the underlying principles of good fiction are always true and that's why they resonate with readers. That’s why fiction can be more powerful than nonfiction.” Romance novels in particular! The emotional crush of love is enough to make a grown man giddy. But the emotional commitment of love is enough to make a solid man surrender his life in sacrifice.
“Life is like boot camp. We learn to obey our Commander. We undergo testing and trials in order to grow stronger and more mature” while Jesus, our husband, is “deployed to be our advocate before almighty God.” “The command was obeyed, the sacrifice made, and the redemption price paid.” Christ “is our ‘next of kin,’ who ransoms us from the bondage of sin (Isaiah 43:1-3); “Sometimes we must struggle through the rough times of the present in order to appreciate what God will do in the future,” when we welcome Him–”like the soldier-husband gone too long–with love and passion, thanksgiving and gratitude.”
“Obey. Submit. Incendiary words in our culture that puts individuality and independence on the throne.” Although I “fight with my wits, not fists,” defiance shows up whenever I smother my conscience and do as I please. But “being by yourself isn’t heaven at all. Not when you have so many demons to keep you company.” Unless we are “enthralled” (the seventeenth century for “enslaved”) by love, we will never find true freedom. We are not mindless puppets; we are merciful characters, ensigns of God–images representing our Eternal Emperor.
The heart “is said to be the seat of our emotions, but our emotional center really lies in the brain.” I loved this book with all my amygdala!
A six week companion study perfect for fans of Redeeming Love.
Written by Francine Rivers and Angela Hunt this study is 3 readings a week with scenes from the book, questions, reflections from Mrs. Rivers, and lessons that blend both the book and scripture. In the six weeks of these lessons I’ve found this enjoyable and insightful. I recommend keeping a notebook on hand not only to answer the questions but to also write down different passages from this study that you find helpful. I also recommend reading Redeming Love before doing this study. It’ll help you to be more familiar with the characters in the scenes. After having completed this study I wish she’d do one for her Mark of the Lion series.
I recommend this to fans of Francine Rivers and Redeeming Love.
Redeeming Love: The Companion Study is a wonderful way to explore and get deeper into God's word. If you are looking for a study in scripture that is topic based, then this is a great study for you. I feel anyone who has read Redeeming Love will enjoy going deeper into the topics of God's Redeeming Love for us while searching scripture that will validate and reveal there is no sin that can separate us from God's love. He is pursuing us each and every day. No matter what has happened in the past, it is in the past. God loves us. God Loves YOU! *I was given a copy of this book by the publisher and this is my honest opinion.
This is a great bible study that pairs with the Novel Redeeming Love. A co-worker and I took our time to work through this together after completing the Novel. It is REALLY good and REALLY thought provoking. Francine Rivers helps you dive not only deeper into the Novel but deeper into the Bible and helps you correlate Michael and Angel's relationship with God/Jesus and us. I HIGHLY recommend this study!
Meh: - The questions were almost too long and made it hard to reflect on my own. It would probably be okay in a group setting.
I want to thank @waterbrookmultnomah through @netgalley for allowing me a copy of this book. I enjoyed this book filled with God’s word and would recommend this to anyone who has read redeeming love and wants to dive deeper into a relationship Him.
I read to book of Hosea and had a rough time truly imagining what the prophet went through as he followed Gods instructions. I understand the correlation, but it was still hard to imagine or understand. This book helped to bridge the gap and open up the power of Love, forgiveness and hope. At moments I was angry and then cried and felt the pain of a young girl struggling to be free in the body of the woman she had grown to be. Powerful illustration and depiction of Gods Live towards us.
THE BEST BOOK IN THE WHOLE ENTIRE WORLD!! I was in tears half of the time😭❤️ But I really enjoyed it and God showed me how much he loves me again, through this book. Guys get this book if you haven’t❤️ Such an amazing book and worth the read. Truly shows that Gods still wants you no matter how much you run away. He still wants you with him❤️ Come to him. He’s waiting!
If you’ve read and Redeeming Love and loved it, you’ll want to read this. The book compares parts of the novels to the Bible and then explain it in such a way that you can apply it to real life. There are also discussions questions at the end of each chapter.
I loved the book; so diving deeper into the biblical truths behind Francine’s writing was truly a gift to be included in. It’s not a quick read. There are a lot of great deep questions to dive into Angel and Michael’s characters which only helped me to improve mine. Thanks for the companion study!
A bible study with a very conservative viewpoint. A companion to the novel, it doesn't delve much more deeply than the novel already does, and asks very leading questions. The whole study is designed to indoctrinate women into a subservient role in their marriage, rather than focusing on the lessons offered by the bible story illuminated by the novel. Only for a very niche audience.
The Redeeming Love Companion Study is a powerful book. The well-chosen excerpts are perfect launching pads for some deep study. 6 weeks, 3x per week, 10-15 minutes each, with a bit of the original story, the author's backstory, and up-close encounters with Biblical truth and characters. This book is painful, and yet full of life and hope. It definitely applies to us today, as much as ever.
I received a copy of this book from #NetGalley, and chose to review it here. all thoughts are my own.
Francine Rivers has a new release! Her classic, Redeeming Love, now has a companion study to dig deeper, and to flesh out the truths found in God’s Word. Redeeming Love is based on the narrative of Hosea and Gomer, set in Gold Rush-era California, and Francine says it is her testimony of a life transformed by God’s work. Francine Rivers is the author of more than thirty books, including The Masterpiece, Bridge to Haven, and A Voice in the Wind. Her novels have been translated into over 30 different languages. I was eager to see this study, because of the impact the book made on me years ago. Redeeming Love showed me how fiction can be a tool for piecing together chronicles from the Bible, and understanding human emotion behind the stories. Redeeming Love: The Companion Study takes the path “from brokenness to redemption and wholeness in Christ.” It provides a compelling look behind the scenes of Michael (Hosea) and Angel’s (Gomer) meeting, into applications for today. Redeeming Love: The Companion Study tackles subjects of darkness and despair, defiance, rebellion, emotional trauma, exploitation, and the magnificent triumph of love. I liked the way Francine wove personal stories into each chapter of The Companion Study, giving a peek into her life, as well as illustrating Scripture’s personalization. She provides encouragement: “Sometimes we must struggle through the rough times of the present in order to appreciate what God will do in the future.” She reminds us: “Humility is putting the needs of others before our own, acknowledging we don’t have all the answers, knowing life is a journey with God as soul companion and guide, and paying attention to others without feeling the need to draw attention to ourselves.” And Francine says, “If you ever find yourself facing darkness and despair, know this: God is still watching and working. Your story is not finished.” Redeeming Love: The Companion Study is a great complement to Redeeming Love! Disclosure of Material: I received a complimentary copy of this book from the WaterBrook/Multnomah book review program in exchange for a fair and honest review.
