White Rose Trilogy #1

Under His Protection

Rate this book
Most debutantes meet their intendeds at polite societal gatherings, not over a duel in Hyde Park.

However, Greyland Kingston is not your typical young lady, and her family is far from conventional. The gossip fans start to flutter when Greyland, her two older brothers, and distinguished father, make their debut. Who is this family? How do they know The Queen? Why does the patriarch look like the ghost of the long-ago Plantagenet King, Edward the IV?

Alexander Hamilton, the notoriously dangerous "Dark Lord" and new Duke of Ravenswood, is about to learn how unique the family is, when he becomes unwittingly entangled with the Kingston’s from New Orleans—one family member in particular. With her spirited personality and innocent aversion to all things proper, Greyland Kingston completely throws him off his well-established game. When trouble ensues in the form of jealous women, ambitious men, and a vengeful Irish clan, Alexander quickly finds having Greyland for his own will come at a steep price…

And he must risk everything to keep her protected.

What a delightful historical romance by Stacy von Haegert! Under his protection is a set in the Bon Ton era and is full of the beautiful and elite with gorgeous ballrooms and glamorous characters like our couple Alexander the duke of Ravenswood and the beautiful young Greyland. This tale was full of mystery and intrigue and just the right amount of steam and the chemistry between Alexander and Greyland was hot. Greyland is very head strong and used to doing as she pleases and Alex is used to being in control but with enemies in the shadows and a failed drugging in order to compromise greyland its no wonder these two lovers butt heads over her safety. Theirs also some great secondary characters like greyland's brothers, Edward kingston who lives only for pleasure and the next adventure and the charming and sexy irrestitable rogue Perkin kingston with his good looks and southern draw the ladies won't know what hit them. I also loved Alex's long suffering best friend Thomas he is clever and his wife the beautiful and witty bella. This is the first book in the White Rose Trilogy and the next book already out is Under His Guidance which is Edward's book. I will definitely be reading this down the line to see what happens to this lover boy. Stacy has a winner with this series and her storytelling was awesome. Until next time Luv's 💋💗

A fiery heroine and jealous, overprotective hero. When Greyland and her family arrive to town, it sets off a chain of events that eventually lead Alexander Hamilton (the Duke of Ravenswood) to become unwillingly entangled. Overall, this is a light read that follows many of the conventions the genre is known for.

Opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

This is a long drawn out read that doesn't adhere to historical facts or society titles and norms at the time. So read and enjoy for the fun romp that it is, but not for any insight into Victorian culture or history. There are also a large number of very modern terms used in the book.

Duke's are Duke's unless they are called, Your Grace. They are not lords. Earls, Viscounts, Marquesses , Barons, are lords. The daughter of a knight is a miss, not a lady. Only his wife would be called Lady Kingston. The author should do a lot more research before attempting to write historical stories. The use of the name Alexander Hamilton for the name of the Duke was also off putting to me, because he was a great American patriot of his time during the American Revolution.

I had a lot of trouble reading this book because the constant misuse of titles throughout the book was very distracting. I very rarely give a two star rating, but this stinker deserves it.👎

Under His Protection is a regency novel about two lovestruck characters; one came from the America, who had zest and carefree attitude in life, while the other one was a brash young lord who was reputed to be a ladies man. Their love story began with Lord Alexander challenging a newcomer to a duel but got more than he bargained for when the young lad’s sister came to his defense instead. There was something mysterious and intriguing about the new family who arrived in London, which got everyone’s tongue wagging and eyes rolling. Something that got a man riled up and determined to have his way against them.

When I read the first chapter of Under His Protection, I was entranced. It’s like I was visiting a historical place at another era that is so different from my own timeline. Once I got past the second chapter, it made me crave for more.

Lady Greyland Kingston was really a lovable personality; she managed to make me smile because of her naiveté and casual outlook in life. It is obvious that she came from a noble line from the America who was quite liberated, compared to the conservative people of London. She’s like a wanton bride, not very typical of a lady, but very entertaining, nonetheless. No wonder the lads and men vied for her attention every now and then. I don’t blame Lord Alex Hamilton of Ravenswood for being so protective of her. He was every bit a hero and warrior in my eyes. I liked the vulnerability and sensitivity he showed when he had fallen in love with Lady Kingston.

I also loved the other men in the novel, like Perkin & Edward, both gorgeous men and dependable brothers and of course, there was Thomas, the ever gracious friend and comrade. Bella, Thomas betrothed, was a friend that I myself would like to keep, and Annabel, a girl I would like to take as my own. And there’s Socrates and Malikite, two creatures who played pivotal roles in their masters’ lives.

I really find Regency novels like Under His Protection very engaging, seductive and irresistible. The characters were easy to love and relate to, even though they belonged to the era where the women’s ball gowns were made of layers of corsets and petticoats while men were clad with greatcoats, cloak and broad-brimmed hats.

Reading Regency novels has always been one of the most delicious treats in literature, in my opinion. I always get delighted reading unusual terms enthused by the characters. Like for example in this novel, I encountered the word "ton". I thought at first, it was a misspelled word for town, but after I did some research, I learned that the author actually referred it to a set of people who possess the characteristics of being rich, fashionable and well mannered. Three characteristics that must all be possessed by a group. Oh, how very ingénue of me, if I might say so.

I really had a wonderful time reading this debut from the talented Stacy Von Haegert. Her writing was quite exceptional and superb. She kept me intrigued and entertained all throughout, with her character’s vivid descriptions and believable personalities. I couldn't believe this is her maiden novel! I thought she can be the next Lisa Kleypas or Johanna Lindsey and I couldn't be more proud! I highly recommend this masterpiece to everyone who loves to read Regency love stories.

This story started out a bit rocky for me. It seemed rushed, the characters shallow, and not much happening as far as the mystery that the reviews eluded too. I'd have given up, but my reading buddy encouraged me to continue.

I will say that the story improved immensely after the 50% mark but still nothing set this one apart from many others I've read like it. If you're looking for a light, at times fun, read to while away the time, this one will fill the bill. If you crave something deeper and more complex, you'll need to look elsewhere.

My first from Stacy Von Haegert and most definitely not my last, Under His Protection is WONDERFUL! With all the rumblings of success wrt Bridgerton and Sanditon, I have to admit that I do love this time period in history and with this book I was thrust right back to the early 1800's England. But what sets this book apart from the others is the idea that an American-bred family with deep royal lineage can be the stars of the show, happily taking the residents of high society by storm and doing it with a grace that is clearly lined with a bit of mayhem and mischief along the way.

I love these Kingston siblings. Sure they know their place but the fact that their father traveled the world them in tow, meant they learned more than most should have. Perkin and Edward know their roles as oldest and middle. But it's Greyland as their dear younger sister who is at the forefront of their lives and who decidedly keeps them on their toes almost daily. Her spirit is unmatched and the way she can be an elegant dancer of the waltz one minute and expert fencer the next made me smile. She could have been this spoiled princess but instead she is caring, loyal, and sympathetic to those who are less fortunate. She doesn't hesitate to do what she wants when she wants, whether or not the world around her agrees. When Alexander Hamilton suddenly enters her life, Greyland is tossed even further into a whirlwind and there is no guessing just how he will change her life.

The fiery American and the handsome rake. Truly a match made in heaven, Greyland and Alex know just how to 'tame' the other with just a look and yet when alone they are unbridled desire that neither knew existed. They manage to thwart any other interest in Greyland which leads to uncovering a plot against the Kingstons, Alexander, and the Crown itself! There is plenty of action and plenty of passion, whether it is for each other or for the evil that lurks in some they may be closest to. But in the end, it's the 'normalcy' that the Kingstons embody that is the most endearing component of this book. They treat each other with kindness and pure love which is in stark contrast to how they should act during this period in time when everyone seemed stuffy, uncaring, and cruel. They are truly a breath of fresh air and I could see why the Queen herself was completely enamored! I was right there with her.

Under His Protection is extremely well-written and Von Haegert masterfully combines a truly charming love story with the darkness of English politics beautifully. Her use of an American family at the forefront is unique and gave this story the freshness others lack. Brothers Perkin and Edward will be getting their stories told next and I look forward to more of this engaging family and the adventures they can't seem to avoid despite their best intentions.

A must-read that I thoroughly enjoyed, I happily give Under His Protection a huge 5 stars!

Stacy Von Haegert's takes a new freshness on a historical fiction and makes into a storyline that will intrigue any book reader! I don't read a lot of romance unless there's an intrigues that pulls me in. I must admit the story does grab you from the first page and leaves you wanting more. Their is suspense, intrigue, adventure, and romance at every turn!

As Alexander the Duke of Ravenswood arrives in London in 1838 he quickly finds himself lost in the vortex that is Greyland Kingston "Grey" is so bewitching. The first time Alexander catches a glimpse of her. He realizes what he what he wants and sets his mind to it. He is so taken aback by her, in fact, you see a difference about her that women in that era do not show. He is drawn to her in so many ways. He knows from the start that his destiny is going to be forever intertwined with that of Greyland Kingston and that sentiment will definitely be put to the test.

This romance has more then just hot and steamy scenes, it has a storyline that draws you in and intrigues you till the end. You're craving more at each turn of the page. The characters are easy to relate to better then the average historical romance. Their is a sense of humor about them that makes it more believably realistic then most books like this. The flow of writing style is impeccable and easy to follow.

It's Frothy, beautifully written, smooth flow yet suspenseful. I must admit, it is extremely well written, and Stacy Von Haegert will definitely have my attention, regardless of the genre she pursues. - Nook Books and More Blog

4/5 ⭐️ 1/5 🌶

If you liked Bridgerton, and you like historical romances with a bit of a modern and dark twist then you will love this book! This book is set in the 1830’s in London, it’s filled with drama, kidnapping, mystery, twists & turns, and definitely filled with a different kind of romance.

Greyland is a great female MC, even if she is a little bit naive about how innocent she acts. She is stubborn, head strong, spoiled, and definitely used to getting what she wants.

Alexander is your typical alphahole character that needs to be in control and brags about his conquests while wanting his woman sweet and innocent. The chemistry and friction between him and Greyland definitely makes for a steamy romance.

This is not at all a story about a perfect couple, they each have their own flaws which make this story that much more interesting. There were definitely times I was screaming internally at both main characters, but it was definitely a fun ride and I can’t wait to see what happens next. The supporting characters were also really well done, and I really hope that Perkin and Henry will eventually have their own story!

I don't generally give books less than a 3, but I guess there is a first time for everything. First, though- this story had a great premise, and the solution to the old historical mystery was well thought out and plausible. I did, for the most part, like the characters and those two things are what kept me reading.
The actual events throughout seemed disjointed, and some of the dialogue was, to be blunt, almost juvenile. There were also an embarrassing number of grammatical errors that made it hard for me to read without hitting my head on my desk.
I don't know if I like the heroine's brothers enough to read the others in this trilogy. But, even if I don't, I would highly recommend the author find a good editor or even a writers' group. Her ideas have potential.

This book takes you on a journey through high society, with intrigue, and suspicion as Greyland and Alex aka “The Dark Duke” navigate a less than ideal first encounter and expectations placed on them of family legacies. This is a historical new adult romance with some steam, banter, with characters you get to love ( both main characters and side characters).

Normally I do not read (and I have never reviewed a romance novel) but I must say I was quite surprised with Stacy Von Haegert’s take on historical fiction, and/or romance (the historical fiction was the part that intrigued me I'm a big history geek and often read historical fiction) I must admit the story does grab the reader from the first page I mean let's be honest what could be better than opening a story with a brawl between two noblemen in an English gentleman's club that result in the inevitable challenge of pistols at dawn to restore lost honor (as a male reader I was slightly disappointed that the deal was called off at the last second by a third party for a very intriguing reason...). However this did not slow the pace of the story.
As Alexander the Duke of Ravenswood arrives in London in 1838 he quickly finds himself lost in the vortex that is Greyland Kingston "Grey" is so bewitching. The first time Alexander catches a glimpse of her. He practically forgets his own name, he is so taken aback by her, in fact, that he begins to consider giving up his globetrotting rakish ways. Particularly after the seeing her dance at a ball held by Queen Victoria, Alexander has never seen anyone dance like that. It has almost a Grey is floating two inches above the ground. After this moment, Alexander is keenly aware of a feeling that his destiny is going to be forever intertwined with that of Greyland Kingston and that sentiment will definitely be put to the test. The Duke of Ravenswood will have to be willing to risk everything to protect not only Grey but, one of London's all-time great mysteries surrounding King Henry VII and the possibility that his bloodline may have continued further than initially anticipated... the members of the royal court are abuzz with the fact that the younger members of the Grayland family bear a striking resemblance to the late Duke of York... duel with pistols

While it is indeed true that this is a distorted romance (and yes these scenes are quite steamy). They are not merely gratuitous layout to the emotional level of the story and serve a very definite purpose in the plot development and psychological depth of the characters. There is also plenty of action and humor to offset the more grown-up aspects of this story. And I must admit, it is extremely well written, and Stacy Von Haegert will definitely have an illustrious writing career, regardless of the genre she pursues.

I was given an ARC book for an honest review free of persuasion from the author or anyone else affiliated with this book.

CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS ; WARNING: CONTAINS MATURE AND ADULT CONTENT

This story has several different peoples POV. These are my favorite type of books to read, simply because you get to see what is happening from all angles.

When I started this book, I thought I was getting into another typical historical romance, which I have not read in a long time. I was so mistaken by the end of the first page! Under His Protection drew me in from the first page and did not let up till the end. I was so wrapped up in the story that when it did end I was wishing I could go live with the characters in Northern England at the Castle and have those gallant men take care of me.

Lady Kingston (Geyland) is the lady all the men want to court. She is unlike any women in England in the 1800's. She can hold her own against any man. She also learned from her brothers how to do anything a man can do.
Greyland's Brothers- Perkin is the oldest. He is the strong silent type. He is the leader of the three sibblings. Edward the middle child is the trouble maker of the bunch, if he could make a living running his mouth and using his sly ways he would have it made.
Alexander the Duke of Ravenwood seems to have been able to do what no one else has and capture the attention of Lady Kingston. The Duke must clean up his playboy ways and become a gentleman if he wants to keep her attention.

The Kingston Family travels alot so there children are well educated. They decide to settle in England. Due to there ancestry people believe they can upset the crown. Who will save the Kingstons? Well our hero of course Alexader The Duke of Ravenwood. He has pledged to protect the family because of his love for Lady Kingston.

Will Alexander who has no intentions of being betrothed fall in love? What will it take for him to protect Greyland? Does she steal the heart of the Duke of Ravenswood? How does the Queen know of Greyland?

If you like Jane Austen you will love the writings of Stacy Von Haeger. Her debut novel will not disappoint. This was an all around fantastic read. This book evokes all emotions with a mysterious twist.

Are you looking for a historical romance book that delivers on romance? Hot leading men? Whitty, somewhat bratty heroines? Then you want to read this book.
Greyland makes me laugh. Her sense of doing what is right, mixed with her tendency to cause a little trouble when she can pulled me to her. I love how she knows what she wants and doesn't let the fact that she has two older brothers, stop her from having fun and being who she is.
Alexander.....*Fans self* Oh my, what can I say. He steals your breath with just the description of him. He knows what he wants when he meets Greyland and nothing stops him from going after, and protecting the woman he has clearly fallen in love with from first sight.
Not to mention her father, while being cautious and careful of his daughter, also lets her figure out who she is, without stifling her personality.
Have I mentioned Perkin....Henry......Bella....., and those are just a few of the wonderful characters brought into our world by Mrs. Von Haegert. This book is riddled with nothing but steamy males and feisty females. I was literally caught up from beginning to end. I started reading it at night figuring, just a few pages before bed, and the next thing I knew, it was seven am and I was getting my daughter ready for school. I was so caught up in the world and characters the author brought to my life, that I was completely unaware of time.
This book is filled with action, love, romance, sex, humor, tears, hold your breath and stop your heart, gut wrenching moments that make you want to scream and jump into the book to save the day. I love a fiction story, that while it hits on almost all the points of the timeline, also adds their own flare and twists from the author. Nothing is better than an author adding their own touches to a book to make it perfect.
If you are looking for a sweep you off your feet romance, pick up this book and start your quest into the lives and stories of the White Rose Society.

Under his Protection was Stacy's first published book, I rated it a 5 star story but a 3 star edit. I averaged them together and give it 4.25 stars. The story has a good pace, slow enough at times to let you fall in love with the characters personality and fast moments that make your eyes move faster too.
The characters are very likable, and a little different. In a historical book often the female is thought of as delicate as glass. So when the very attractive, troubled Duke first see's this disheveled woman, riding fast bareback, she's instantly something of interest. Her actions might be not what you expect from a time when proper ladies of the ton were told to stand still and look pretty, even if standing there she does look pretty. Still raised as a respectable young woman she has no problem fitting right in, especially when on the arm of a man who is one really hot book boyfriend.
As a Duke, Alex has enough trouble on his hands trying to deal with everything after his father was killed. Then in his life arrives 2 men with charm, appealing accents and their sister he can't stay away from. Alex does what he needs to do to win her over and keep her safe from the family secrets. But the question is, who's secrets.
This is a HEA. I can't wait to read the next book in this trilogy. If the other gentleman are as yummy as they seem I know I'll love them as I do the Duke.

I'm a big fan of the authors, Forged series and I find it cool to read her earlier work and see how much her skills have grown. FYI there is fun little parts you can connect in this book to her later work.

A fun little novel that blends the history of Victorian era England and the pulse quickening romance of a steamy Harlequin romance.
Under his protection tells the story of Alex Ravenswood, an aristocrat and nobleman in the very beginning of Queen Victoria’s reign, who falls head-over-heel in love with the bewitching and out spoken American Lady Greyland Kingston. Their swift and heated romance is punctuated by the fact both the Ravenswood’s and the Kingston’s are decided from royalty. But this romance is not all Balls and heaving bosoms. The lovely Greyland finds herself in the middle of a struggle for power and control over the English throne.
The novel is a great and extremely quick read. Von Haegert’s writing is visually expressive and dynamic without bogging the reader down with an overabundance of one theme or the other. For example, the sexual tension between Alex and Greyland is felt throughout the book without having to overtly say that the two are begin engulfed by their passion for each other or going in to graphic scenes(like some other writers of this genre). The story is entertaining in a way that intrigues the read and engages in higher understanding of the ins and outs of the British class system. The only issue with the novel is that, at times, it seems too modern and tends to slip haphazardly into modern language. Some of the characters make references or comments that would not have been said or even understood in Victorian England.
All together this book is worth the read for the sheer enjoyment and relaxation

“Under His Protection (The White Rose Trilogy)” marks Stacy Von Haegert’s debut as an author. In her book, Ms Von Haegert attempts to explain a centuries-old mystery regarding two youthful princes of York: their uncle imprisoned them after their father died and nobody knew, with certainty, how they had fared after imprisonment.

Ms Haegert’s treatment of the mystery produces an intriguing plot that includes distant history, lust, love, gossip, humour, suspense and constant action. The story is set in London, England, in 1938 and it begins with a brutal fight between Alexander, the Duke of Ravenswood, and an American. Amidst the violence, and the prospect of more, Greyland Kingston emerges in the story. She is originally from New Orleans but is staying in London.

Despite Alexander’s single-minded pursuit of his gaming habit, Greyland attracts him and they enter into a risky relationship that fuels gossip, jealousy and severe threats. He becomes consumed with protecting her and the mystery of the descendants of King Henry VII. The action affects and involves all strata of English society: even Queen Victoria and members of her court. In all of this, Greyland effectively is under his protection”.

First, in the interests of full disclosure, Under His Protection isn’t what you’d call my typical read, but I kind of got roped in by my wife, who couldn’t put it down.

What appealed to me about it was the historical tie-in as I do like historical fiction, like WEB Griffin, though Von Haegert’s book is not truly in this vein either. What she does do surprisingly well, especially as I think this is her first published book, is mix up various genres and make this appeal to many touch points.

It isn’t dusty old history, and it does have some rather dry humor to it. The pendulum even swings the other way as well as there are some rather torridly passionate scenes in here as well. The later at first made me flinch a bit, as that isn’t really my cup of tea. I was pleased however with how they contributed to the story and were not simply gratuitously inserted just for their salacious content.

Suffice to say, Stacy’s got me hooked and I think you will be too. I am already quietly nudging my wife to be on the lookout for the next installment.

Under His Protection (The White Rose Trilogy) by Stacy Von Haegert

Every fans of romance novel will surely fall in love with Under His Protection (The White Rose Trilogy) by Stacy Von Haegert.
What started as a fistfight and possible duel, has turned out to be the beginning of a beautiful love story. Could it be love at first sight for Alex and Greyland? For love comes from the most unexpected places.

Reading this novel is like drinking a love potion---anyone who has felt the magic of love will surely fall in love all over again. Yes, indeed, you got really to believe in magic and tell me how do these two people find each other in a world full of strangers. Love is one of the most powerful human emotion and love really conquers all as portrayed in the pages of this book.

Congratulation Stacey Von Haegert and keep the flame of love and romance burning in the hearts of millions of your readers out there!

Stacy wrote something that will mesmerize you, at first I didn’t wanted to read this one but once started it I just couldn’t stop. Set in London back in 30’s the characters show very natural and real, loved it how little conversations explain so much and at the same time leave a mystery behind. Very beautifully written and interesting side is shown of woman in that era. I don’t have to say more about the book don’t want to spoil the story.

Alex character takes you on a ride as a brave man yet has a sensitive side to his character, standing against a person powerful and willing to take trouble when you are in love. It has everything a romance story has with fascinating tale and solid characters. It’s a must read if you like love stories with mystery and twists.

I would absolutely recommend this one; Stacy Von Haegert did a great job with her debut novel this I am positively waiting for next book.

Under His Protection is a beautifully written historic romance. Von Haegert's imagery in describing the period setting of the novel is very well done. Greyland is such an entertaining character and I fell in love with her immediately. Smart, feisty, intelligent and brave she immediately caught Alex's attention. Alex, a very attractive and eloquent man who has to risk everything to protect Greyland.

The gossip surrounding Greyland's family wags freely with their arrival in London from America. The Queen's personal attention to their family and the strange resemblance of Greylands family to the late King has everyone abuzz.

Greyland's brothers Edward and Perkin are delightful characters, along with Thomas and Bella. The interaction between the siblings and their friends was so entertaining.

This novel has it all: jealousy, danger, romance and revenge. Anyone who loves a good history romance with hot leading men and feisty leading ladies will love this book.

4.5 Stars!!!
Let me start by saying that I typically don't read historical romance but this book may have just changed my mind:) There is something romantic and sexy about a lady being courted by her intended. I found myself drawn to Greyland, her protective brothers and their family secret.

Enter Alexander, the Duke of Ravenswood, who is immediately smitten with the unconventional, American beauty. The passion and heat between Alex and Greyland is undeniable making for a very enjoyable read. When the secret of Greyland's family comes to light, enemies will do whatever is necessary to keep Alex and Greyland apart.

I found myself falling in love with these characters and the world that Stacy Von Haegert created. I look forward to continuing this series and seeing what will happen to these interesting characters.

Under his protection

Greyland is a stubborn highbrow lady who wants to do things her way. Alexander falls for her stubbornness and unique personality. The two combined are like a bottle rock setting off. But with jealously lies and deception around ever corner will they get their happy ending?

Under his protection is a historical romantic thriller. It takes place in the period just when Queen Victoria had taken her place in the throne. And it revolves around one of the mysteries of the Royal Family.

Actually, this is the first book of this type I have ever read. Still, the book managed to capture my attention and interest almost from the beginning. The characters - primary and secondary - of the book are really interesting people and they struck a chord with me almost immediately too.

The FL is headstrong, stubborn and independent. Though I don't find it conceivable that a person like this could exist in that era, the author managed to flesh out the character convincingly. So much that it didn't strike a false chord with me.

The ML is someone we can very well find in that era in most respects. But he is unusual too, in that he accepts the heroine as she is and doesn't attempt to break her spirit.

There is an overarching intrigue through the story, along with small mysteries and some action, and all of these combine together to form a well-paced story with a neat narrative.

The only thing I could point out as a problem, is the length of the book. There were some parts of the story which slow the narrative. But that is the only issue I had with the book. And that is why I have reduced a star from the rating.

Overall, it's an enjoyable, intriguing, romantic thriller. And I definitely recommend it - particularly for those who enjoy Julia Quinn's books.

I’ve never written a review for a romance book because I generally don’t read romance novels but the author gave me a copy for an honest review and I have to say I was impressed.
After binging Bridgerton, and needing more, this book came at a good time. It was set in London in the 1830s, and surrounds a very interesting family and most importantly the daughter Greyland.
Greyland is an easy to love character, she is playful, stubborn, and a “spitfire” as her love interest calls her often.
The book takes some dark twists, more so then I thought it would, which made it that much more interesting.
The love interest is not perfect, which made me appreciate him more and overall the story progressed nicely.
I would definitely recommend if your a fan of historical romance, with some darker themes.

Loved Under His Protection! It reminded me of the swashbuckling romances I used to read in the 1980s. I liked the adversaries, Alex and Lord Ashlown. Ashlown intrigued me and I wondered if you were going to develop his story.
The romance has all the key components that appeals to me: alpha male stakes his claim, rebellious love interest who needs taming; danger, excitement, a dastardly villain, and a cast of colorful support characters.
Great reading!
