Hanna is an 8 year old girl, one day her father is arrested in front of her. From there on you find out that she’s bullied and her life is miserable, she cries at every chance she gets. We are then introduced to the superhero portion of the story, the only problem with it is it doesn’t have any weight. The reason is because we know it’s all in Hanna’s head so takes away any tension it could have had, it’s basically like a Shazam story where it doesn’t really exist and it’s all in Billy’s head. Sounds fun right? Just like those movies where it’s all a dream, if that wasn’t enough there is an ass pull at the end which I can only imagine was someone trying to be smart. We’ll get to that in a minute, let’s have some positives I really liked the art it was very reminiscent of the early Spawn comics. I also liked the part with Ant, everything about that story was good. I enjoyed her weird power set, the costume heck even the big bad was good but it’s reduced to nothing because it’s just a kids fantasy. that’s it I’m done reviewing this garbage.

This is the right title, cover and creative team. The ISBN and story description are incorrect.

From the back cover…

Hanna Washington understands more about the “real world” than any eight-year old should. Hanna’s life is filled with an absent mother who enters her life only when something is needed, schoolmates who continually bully and torment her for being gifted and a father who is convicted of murder.

To deal with the stress of her daily life, Hanna has taken to writing in her journal and drawing fantastic stories where she acts out her noble aspirations. Her journal contains incredible stories (back cover has this word misspelled) which psychologists call a “juvenile power fantasy”. Through her journal Hanna has created a fictitious world where she is empowers and strong.

A world where she is a superhero.

A world where she is…

I gave it 5 stars because it is different, has good artwork and plenty to read. There is a lot packed into this little graphic novel. It’s a good origin story and the last several pages throw in some twists that could set the stage for a much bigger story to be built on. Currently this is a new ongoing comic series.

Almost 20 years has past since this book was published and w/ this new creative team taking on this character.
