About the author

I am Tinalynge, an aspiring author who is deeply inspired by eastern fantasy such as wuxia, xianxia, and xuanhuan. The first story I wrote was Blue Phoenix, a series I poured my very heart and soul into creating.

Since I started writing, I have finished Blue Phoenix at eight books, Overthrowing Fate at three books and began Condemning the Heavens. Although I have finished two series so far, I still consider myself a beginner in the world of writing. I am aware that my writing still needs to evolve and grow to become better, and as a result, I work very hard daily to improve my writing and produce stories that people can enjoy reading.

*audio book review*
Quick review: I no longer need sleeping pills.
Wuxai or xianxia is not for everyone and I will admit, while i am not an expert of the genera, I have had read and got audio books with some translated wuxai novels. This one reads like the writer was teasing out a literary self masturbation that went no where fast. The MC is from earth and he is rich, hansom, a martial artist etc etc and is in love with a girl that treats him like a big sister. So he goes to a mysterious shop buys some jewelry (that is pretty much a monkey's paw) and dives right in to truck-kun to save his unrequited love. The Jewelry has a ancient Phoenix and they both travel to MAGIC CHINA where everyone screams their super move and pose. By this point, the story goes to sleepy town. He is still a pretty boy (white hair , blue eyes) gender confused kinda looking guy. You know, ever have the boy in your group that made you have strange feelings for until the boy hit puberty? then some how ends up being a guy that looks like a cute girl and you still have have that weird tingling feelings that you refuse to explore; ...you homo. So anyways, he meets and befriends the city lords kids, ends up at Hogwarts for the kung fu gifted and has a rivalry with malfoy with his lighting karate chop of doom, blab blab blab. The guy has one fight with this guy and spends the rest painting a target on his ass by pissing off people or by showing off to people. This story makes drama and issues for no reason, like a korean drama. If you want to see a guy that moves like a lady try to become a "god" to find and woo his unrequited ghost friend ...then this is for you. Not much action but lots of technical talk on how to become a martial god and giving all the guy weird boners.

This one was pretty good. It is a wuxia/xianxia book. It also has a transported to a different planet in a new body component. The MC is killed after saving the women he loves. He never told her and they were best friends. With the help of an ancient powerful being, he is reincarnated right away in a new world. Normally a spirit stays in the spirit realm until their memories are gone before they are reincarnated. Now Wue Yue is a baby in a new world with a high level demon beast soul stuck in his head. They form a soul contract where the blue phoenix will help Wue Yue gain in strength to get revenge for what happened to the bird 4000 years before. Wue Yue gets the chance for power and to maybe become a god so he can reincarnate his best friend/lost love to tell her how he really feels.

This is a very long book, about twice as long as others of the kind. It has all the same components one would expect in these type of books. Power is the only thing that matters. If one has power people are either jealous of them or want to suck up to them. Everything is about family and gaining more power. I got to wonder if that is what the Chinese culture is really like. There is friendship in this book. I read another book by the same author and that is the one thing that I think the other book missed. Overall these books are about the process of gaining power and cultivating. The overall story is secondary. If you like these type of stories than this is a good one.

So much clichés. Resurrection in to a magic world, a teacher in the mind, harem, going to the academy and forming a gang. If he could create the pills, then this book would have had all the clichés. The good point is the book is long and you can read for quite some time.

reads like watching anime ^^ - I loved that!

The editing was very bad though - random tense changes, bad grammar, spelling errors (for example: "robe" instead of "rope" or "school" instead of "scroll") which made it hard to really dive into the story.

The description is accurate, but the quality is mediocre.

The setting is interesting. The plot is a fairly standard coming of age story. The prose is awkward and the work is full of inconsistencies about timing. A book for fans of the sub-genre, but not for the general pop.

5- Perfect for my taste, could not physically stop reading/listening, wanted more afterword.
4- Almost perfect, could not stop reading/listening, probably wanted more afterword.
3- Enjoyed the book, could see others loving it, need to think if I want more.
2- Can see why others might like the book, but I could not, I do not want more.
1- What is this? What went wrong? Why did they do this? This doesn't make any sense! (No idea who it is for but definitely not for me).

[Audiobook Version]

Listened to the book again since the last one is coming out soon. I enjoy most cultivation books as long as the writing/translation is decent and is not filled with too many cliche tropes. In other words, I really enjoyed this book. The characters can be annoying sometimes but only for a few moments and they are written well. I love that the world is based on legends with slight twists as well as the cultivation. The story is similar to other cultivation series which can be good or bad depending on the reader. Personally, the story and world were different enough for me to have a great time with the book. Lastly, the narrator does a great job of narrating the voices and matching the voices to the correct situations. Overall, while I did lose interest a few times (probably since I am listening to it again) it's still a great cultivation story.

After finishing the series, if you want to know whether I liked it or not I will leave that here. This does not spoil the ending, just letting you know my thoughts on it. While the first few books were great, the ending is really cheesy. There are also a lot of details that were forgotten that could have been useful as well. My main complaint is there were a lot of small contradictions in the last few books that really annoyed me and things that just didn't make sense. Overall, it was not the worst ending I have read/listened to, it could have been much better.

Below average and quite dull

The story is really dull and just copies the steps most cultivation series has. What really shocked me was the absolutely poor storytelling, it feels like reading a cook book.

The story is about a super handsome, rich, smart, martial arts knowing ladys man (omfg). He gets transported to another world after dying saving his love, who is a his best friend that has boyfriend. He saves her outside a lingerie shop he visits with his friend (omfg). He gets joins soul with a perverted demi god (why). Now he wants to be a god himself so he has the power to bring her soul (after she dies) to his new world (omg).

The story has so many holes it is just annoying. Further more the MC turns celibate (was a playboy earlier, so why now the next 100 years of cultivation). He need to keep the demi god in his soul secret so other more powerful cultivator steal its. The MC and the several thousand year old soul is just stupid and reveals the secret to everyone almost as soon as the story start. The story is so predicable and stupid. The other characters are unlikable and unrelistic.

The cultivation is not my taste - its just spells and items. No real martial arts. He just sits in his cave/castle and meditates with the things such as birds, vision and other ancient things just show up making him stronger. There is to strife and the progress is poorly paced.

Feels like sloppy work.

Repetitive, long, and wordy, but still a good book

As a story, the premise is solid. It is easy to connect to the characters. There is very little that is original in the world building, but it is put together well.

This is obviously a translation, or at least not written in the author's native tongue. Phrasing is slightly off in places, and incorrect words are used in others. Also, there are insights, or interactions that are written out in detail for the second or third time.

It took some time and effort to finish, but with some good editing this could be a great book.

Fun story

An interesting storyline with likable characters. You can just tell the MC is going to be way overpowered by the end of the season. The only gripe I have is the tendency of the author to over describe and repeat information two sometimes three times. Still a fun story.

I was over all pretty happy with this. I love cultivation novels and this is one of the first non-Chinese cultivation stories ive read.

The only things I didn't like really boil down to personal preference.

I like how it was written and most of the story

My only nit pick is the promiscuity and crappy romance in the book.

I love a good romance, I love loyalty and purity.

I find "man-hoes" and "skanks"equally repugnant in fiction and reality. This story seems to find ways to glorify them.

I find the main characters attraction and obsession to someone who is sleeping with another man as even worse

If you ignore the poorly done romance and the main characters poor personality that is a text book definition of a "simp" the only other part I dislike is the hypocrisy in the choices he makes at times regarding events and enemies.

Overall I believe although there were plenty of these deficiencies to be unable to call this a masterpiece I believe that they did a good job overall.

If it were my work I'd tweak about a dozen things in this before I called it "complete" but like I said I read a LOT if cultivation stories and feel this author did better than most out there.

One final time I'll emphasize my criticism is likely grounded in my own personal tastes and nit pickery.

I do recommend reading this book series!

I have a lot of problems with arrogance in most books. So I really appreciate it when characters remain humble and consistent. Hui Yue was arrogant before his death, but hardworking and serious even after his reincarnation, so I overlooked it. He hides and downplays his talent to go unnoticed for years. However, his arrogance will return too quickly once he can increase his power. Arrogance in speech and actions. The author has set up an entire energy rating system to better explain that its value is debatable. We have ranks and levels with large gaps, but… except that… and actually with… It’s probably the cutest inconsistency. The accumulation of small errors like this has exhausted me. His aura scares some animals but not others. His released aura will create whirlwinds around him to hide his appearance (lol). And the whole thing with white hair and blue eyes was already pushing it…

I finally snapped when he said he would come back in a week to attend an auction in disguise. Why? I gritted my teeth when he was attacked. I rolled my eyes when he pushed them away and collapsed right after. When the guys ran for days to report the incident to their master, I thought it was very convenient for them to have come so quickly. And when they didn’t come back quickly afterward, etc., etc. Not for me.

The story is good it's just the writing style that ruins it for me.

Little niggle first: everything is always "instantly reacts" or "instantly notices" over and over. It really kills the suspension of disbelief.

The main issue: telling instead of showing (the same issue that Michael Chatfield has). Tinalynge doesn't properly grasp the concept of show, don't tell. It really annoys me when a non-omniscient narrator can just pop into the head of a group and summarise their emotional response, as an example. It spoils the readers relationship with the character in focus for narration (the MC in this case). In the end it's lazy story telling.
The MC is somehow has too much knowledge about random things (such as the school rules). So this issue is either one of conceptualising the character or not properly showing the character acquiring that information or at the very least showing some reason that the character would have acquired that info.

As with Michael Chatfield, Tinalynge is good as making an interesting story, but seemingly not good at telling it. I want to keep going with the book, but the writing is getting in the way of telling a good story.

Scott Merriman does a decent job narrating the audiobook.

You have to dispel your disbelief A LOT with this book.

You meet the main character growing up in the first part of the story, yet his parents only get mentioned like 3 times (and his dad only once), I had to wonder if they even existed at some points.

Main character must also be the ONLY kid in his village as there were no others mentioned ever. His village is small enough that they are overlooked even by bandits, yet the village is constantly on guard as if they’re going to be attacked by them.

Also at beginning main character gets mistaken to be a girl by some other characters, and apparently the unintentional deception lasted for years. I could understand maybe a couple of months, but if it’s not deliberate, and the characters see each other every single day (and spend all day together) then I have a really hard time believing they didn’t realize he was a boy sooner.

Overall it’s an okay story but there’s just so many inconsistencies, details or things that just don’t make the story immersive or believable enough for me to enjoy it.

I don't believe it. When the book started and the protagonist made to cross the road to the antique shop, I thought a truck would show up. I never thought I would actually read a book with "truck-kun" making an appearance.

Wow. That was a huge infodump at the start, poorly disguised as a back story.

This book reads like a poorly written knockoff version of Condemning The Heavens. The author has too many similarities to that series (unless the book also takes place in the Condemning the Heavens world/ Universe).

Not sure if I want to continue the series or not. Something was missing. It lacked "soul"?

I read this book on Wuxiaworld.

What would happen if you mix a promising hero with a very powerful teacher in one body? That is what happens when our protagonist gets reincarnated from our world into another world where cultivation is real.

This first book is about growth, about friendship and rivalry, and about the politics of a world lead by power, both cultivator power and political and army power. There are battles, assassins in the shadows, powerful beasts and you get to see how different paths are chosen by different groups as our character discovers his new society.

A really good book to start a series.

I'm only 1 hour in, which @3% of the audiobook, but the narration makes this barely listenable (/readable). The narrator chose an awfully unnatural, nasal voice for the Mc. He also pronounces dantien as "danchun". I know these don't seem like the worst possible issues, but my reading experience is thrown off every time Mc opens his mouth, or dantiens are mentioned, and in a cultivation novel, that's not an infrequent occasion.

Might not continue later, will stop now to prepare for a job interview.

I knew this series long ago, when the author still write this as webnovel on wuxiaworld.com. but then, I'm rather lazy to read because the synopsis was standard and to read this work, there is no flipping mode on wuxiaworld.com.

The story was a standard wuxia, The main character was Reincarnated after some accidents in the original world, stuck with other beings and then inherited some Cultivation methods to Become Peerless on his generation.

Blue Phoenix series by Tinalynge was a good Xianxia / Isekai story. An interesting mash-up of a MC, Hui Yue and Lan Feng. Lots of cultivation. Training. And fights. Surprisingly not that much actual school stuff, considering the age of most of the characters. Some aspects of the story were rushed, but understandable considering the place it needed to get to. Overall, an enjoyable and interesting read.

This book is an awesome beginning to the series. Though I can't help but wonder if this book is related to the Condemning Heaven series. Since Lan Feng and Prophet Lan seem to be the same person. Well, they seem to have the same personality. Though if that is true, how did that come to be. Well, I hope to find that out by the time I finish this book.

This was a good book that as a good power system and set p the world well. I love how it explores the implications of being reincarnated in an isekai story.

This is a Rebirth on another planet style cultivation novel. The writing is not the best, although it is better than a fan made translation. The story is interesting, and I will continue reading the other books. This is not nearly as good as the cradle series nor silver fox and the western hero series, yet still enjoyable.

Edit: I lost interest in the story during the next book. I lowered the book to 3 stars.
