I've only read the short story version for now. And it gave me quite a fascinating glimpse of a New Woman author.
Cecil and Digby's conversation was just like the usual cliché locker-room boytalk. It's disappointing that even after more than a hundred years these things didn't change. Women are still constantly objectified everyday.
However, Cecil's inner monologue and tug-of-war feelings towards Theodora was also satisfying. And despite everything, I still kind of shipped these two together. Sue me. They just had too much chemistry🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
To be honest, I'm not ready to read the larger version of it because of its tragic ending. I guess I'll just protect myself from further heartbreak and think that the affair between Theodora and Cecil was a memorable romance like the fireworks that both will remember from time to time with fondness in between their busy and fulfilling but separate lives.
