A charming and sweet romance that made me smile with all the tender love declarations between the lovely Miss Hannah and Garrick. The narration of Ms. Hale was amazing and made it very easy to connect with the Star-Crossed Lovers. Both her female and male voices were great and it made the story much more entertaining. I loved this!!
As suggested by the clever title, the heroine of this story fell for the hero when she was quite young and he was just an earl's spare. Even at their young ages, he found her intriguing and intelligent, quite unlike other females of his acquaintance. He went off to war after his brother married, and though he never responded to her, her missives from home buoyed him during difficult times overseas. The hero's brother manages to die without providing an heir, so the hero returns home after the war, new to the title and its responsibilities. He was most surprised to literally run into the heroine's carriage. She's had to flee from the man who has taken over her father's title after he cast her out suddenly. (By the way, this plot thread was not tied up satisfactorily at the end. I would have loved to have seen him get a comeuppance!) The hero's mother is her godmother; her estate is the most logical place to go.
Most of the story is about them fighting their feelings for each other, while neither discloses how they feel. They both feel deeply for each other, but neither is willing to risk being the first to say it. A night of forced proximity changes things for them; for a sheltered miss, she was far too willing to get intimate so quickly, especially with no promises between them for a further relationship. I just don't think that was the done thing in the Regency era (or at least not as common as it is in contemporarily written Regency romance! Things look lost for a bit (naturally!) until things turn around … which they did on a dime. Things move swiftly after that for them. The book has some other interesting characters, especially some fairly unpleasant ones, like the hero's mother and the one his mom wants him to marry … someone much like herself! The earl also has a friend who seems to have lost his way; I imagine the author has written a book about him that I will have to discover. Aside from a bobble here and there, I found this an immensely enjoyable listen.
I received a promo code for this audiobook, but that did not affect my review.
I was given a free copy of this audiobook for an honest review.
I love historical romance stories, and this one fit the bill. I’m a big fan of Dawn Brower as well.
Story:
I could easily have seen this story written as a novel, instead of a short story. Either way, it held my attention the entire time. Is there a part 2 to this story? Based on the way the ending was (Garrick wanting to go off to find his friend), the author made it sound as though there could be.
I was so hoping that there would be a different ending at least regarding how Lady Corrin was so sure that Garrick would ask her to marry him. She was definitely a bitchy character that I feel needed to be put in her place. I think it would have been funny had Garrick told Lady Corrin that he needed to discuss something with her, only to turn around and tell her that it was time for her to go home because he was marrying Hannah.
Narrator:
This was the first time I’ve listened to this narrator. While she did a great job the majority of the story, there was an issue with the first 10+ minutes. I don’t know what the issue was exactly, but the best way to describe it is as follows:
She’d get to the last word of the sentence,
The second the last syllable (from the last word) was out of her mouth,
She would pause the recording or stop it.
This left a very stunted speech or way of reading the story. It was really annoying at first, and I wasn’t sure if I would even be able to continue the story. Thankfully, the issue stopped, and all was well.
What a charming, fun, exciting romance that really broke my heart the way Hannah by her cousin but Garrick comes through that is after he knocks her out of her carriage. He becomes over protective and demands she stays in bed to get well. She goes nuts and breaks the rules what follows is a delightful romance that really touches the soul.
Ms. Hale’s narration is wonderful she has a lovely accent that really pulls you in. Her male and female voices are lovely, you always know who is talking and just what they are feeling. There are no repeats of words, no background noise or any volume changes. She gives a very thrilling narration right down to the hurt and pain of one evil cousin and the man who lives to protect her. She puts a lot of emotion into the characters you have no trouble seeing the scenes in your mind as it holds you attention. I thought her performance was wonderful. She really brings the story to life. I am really looking forward to listening to more of her work.
I thought the author really put time and thought into bring you a delightful story that steals your heart. I loved the characters, the plot was wonderful and the ending a delight that I didn’t want to end. I can’t wait to listen to more of this series.
A sweet historical love story. Hannah and Garrick meet when she is visiting her godmother. Garrick is intrigued with Hannah cause she is unique. Hannah is a book worm who is instantly attracted to Garrick when the have a conversation about books. Years later they are reunited when Garrick returns home from war to take care of his family estate and Hannah returns seeking help from being kick out by her uncle who had custody of her since her parents die. Hannah is in love with Garrick and write him while he was away but she keeps it a secret because she has insecurities as she has been told no one will love her. Garrick is in love with Hannah but believes she deserves better. A storm has these two shacked up in a cabin and the attraction is too much. Great story with wonderful characters.
Dawn Brower does it again with another great story. No time travel involved but still just as nice. Hannah meets Garrick when visiting her godmother's home as a 16 year old. He was about to leave for war so nothing could come of it but there was an attraction. Ten years later, he returns home to become the Earl after the death of his brother and she has arrived after being kicked out of her childhood home by the cousin who inherited her father's title. Ms Brower has written two characters who are a little lost but who can help the other heal. Everyone recognizes that they are in love with each other except them. This is a fast paced story with a satisfying ending. It is a nice sweet little story.
Book 1 of the Ever Beloved series was such a great read. Our Hannah is perhaps a bit of a blue stocking and see herself as always being a wallflower. After 10 years the love of Hannah life returns home from war. Garrick has to face some serious challenges when he returns. Like Garrick Hannah has had to face some challenges her cousin John for one. Thank God for Grimly is all I can say. I loved how Hannah and Garrick meet again. Lady Corinne will be another character you will be happy to hate. This was a good book from start to finish. Ms. Brower’s books are so well written and a pleasure to read. I know this will be one you will love too. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Love at first sight isn't always smooth going, often there are many bumps on the way - and so it goes for Garrick and Hannah. Garrick is a complex character that Dawn has created as our erstwhile hero. He's been to war and carries scars and does not feel worthy of our dear Hannah. Hannah is a sweet young woman that is faced with challenges of her own but faces them with her head held high, she is a strong character and well developed by the author. The storyline is well thought out and introduces us to these and other fun and intriguing characters. I look forward to Ms. Hamilton's next book, hopefully we'll get to learn more about Warwick.

This was an endearing story about two people, Hannah and Garrick, who had met earlier on on their lives and found an instant attraction. However, due to circumstances beyond their control, they didn’t meet for another ten years. I liked the spirit of Hannah, she wasn’t afraid to voice her opinions or stand up for herself. Garrick knew what he wanted but was unsure if he could go ahead with his wishes. His friend, Viscount Warwick seems an interesting character and I look, forward for reading his story. This was a good paced story that can be read in an afternoon. I received a copy via Booksprout and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
When she was sixteen years old Hannah Knight travels to Manchester Castle where she meets Lord Garrick Edwards and they develop a friendship but he was leaving for the army so she writes him during the next ten years. When Garrick returns home he learns his brother has passed away leaving a daughter Amelia and his is now the new Earl of Manchester. He also learns that Hannah now resides in his home taking care of Amelia. He knows he must find a wife and Hannah seems a likely choice. After ten years do they still have any affection for each other?

I can’t say I am a huge fan of historical romances as I tend to find that the life lived back then just way out of my style of living it just becomes a little over the top for me but I must say I really enjoyed reading this book. I found it to be very sweet tale of meeting the man you found attractive but could do nothing about due to him going to war. He arrives back to take the place of his brother who as passed as the Earl and she has been kicked out of her childhood home after her fathers cousin inherited her fathers title. Will admit I am so glad I was born I this century

I enjoyed this easy to read, sweet book by Ms. Brower. Hannah is well read. She knows that fairy tales may not be real, but love at first sight is. Garrick wants to see the world and with no home responsibilities, purchase a commission to the military. Little did they both know that a brief meeting would produce a love both thought not possible that would span a decade. Ms. Brower has given us a book that is sweet with just enough steam to make us believe in happily ever afters. I look forward to future books in this series.
Delightful! This is a really lovely second chance at love for Hannah and Garrick after he returns home after the war. Its interesting that when a child is written into the story that it becomes more interesting (at least for me it is) and if find that child very endearing and lovable. Here it was Garrick's niece who crept into my heart. The love that crept up on them was a delight to read about. The voice acting done by Kristina Hale was most enjoyable. Good story, interesting characters and enjoyable narration.
Her life had not been easy but she loved her times at the castle. He never ever expected to inherit the title but not only did he, he now has a child to look after. The estate is broke and he needs to work hard to save it all. She goes to help him and they both love each other but they have not said a word. Can they find the courage to speak up? See if they have a happy ending

I thoroughly enjoyed this second chance Regency romance with great characters, romance, and intrigue. She will always remember the summer spent at a castle and the boy she liked there. He went off to war, and returned to inherit, since his brother drank himself to death. They both had their struggles, but the ending was great. I look forward to reading more books from this author.

I loved this book it had me hooked from the beginning. I Recommend this for OVER 18 DUE TO CONTENT. Hannah and her mother are visiting Lady Manchester at the Manchester castle. When Hannah spots Lord Garrick Edwards she feels a connection right away. Will turn of events have him out of her reach or will she get the chance to see if he feels the same connection.

This was a sweet story, but lacked substance. It progressed at a good pace, but I never felt a connection to either Garrick or Hannah. I think there was too much inner dialog happening and not enough quality interaction between the characters. They obviously cared for each other, but many times when they were together in a scene one or both were snarly...that doesn’t really translate to love for me.
Two people in love with each other, but neither think they are worth the other. It is beautiful to see how they figure out that they need each other and wouldn't be able to handle it unless they told each other. With a busy mother and some other standing to the side ready to step in, it was amazing to see them push through the obstacules and find the way to each other.

The first book in the series called Ever Beloved, it is a well-written book that I enjoyed reading. Garrick Edwards Earl of Manchester and Miss Hannah Knight meet again after a ten-year separation they have kept in touch over the years by letters. I want to read the next book in this series. This is such a delightful, enchanting and sweet story! I really enjoyed Hannah and Garrick's story! Hannah and Garrick met when they were younger. They have feelings for each other but neither discloses this. Ten years later, he has experienced war and she has suffered loss and bad relations. I really enjoyed this story a lot.
A quick read that will warm your heart and keep you rooted to your e-reader. Great plotline, and a hero and heroine you can't help but sympathize with. The secondary characters added to the plot and I'll definitely read their stories if Ms. Brower writes them!

Hannah first meets the handsome Garrick as a young girl and falls head over heels for him before he leaves for war; it is ten long years before she seems him again. Scarred by the war, stepping into his dead brother’s shoes as Earl and trying to turn around the estate fortunes, Garrick doesn’t feel he deserves Hannah but neither can he bear to see her with anyone else. I gobbled up this story.
In this simply enjoyable Regency fairytale, Hannah Knight spends a delightful childhood summer at Manchester Castle. At 26, her parents dead, she flees back to that castle, and encounters Garrick Edward's, who struggles with his unexpectedly inherited a title and the wounds of military service. Fun book.
I loved this sweet and emotional romance. It was very easy to root for Hannah and Garrick and it was easy to sympathize with them. All in all a very enjoyable novella. This is my completely voluntary, honest review.
This book was absolutely stunning! Ms. Brower has an impressive talent for storytelling. I loved this book. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book in exchange for a free copy.
