Caught in the Lies

It was ... okay.
The story started well - but later there were too many unrelated dramas - that destroyed everything.
Despite the cover and book's name, there wasn't much "fire action" like I wanted... :(
Plus, I totally feel cheated by that hot cover... The hero was supposed to be 40-years-old, but the model on the cover is probably a 20-year-old rookie... LOL

As the blurb says the H doesn’t tell the h this upfront and the scene where she finds out is…hectic…
UGH @ SPOILER HTML TAKING FORVER😤, so:
While the ow no longer means anything to him and he really does want the h, there IS a moment where he irritated me because he didn’t think to put the h first. This is exactly why I dislike books where heroes have kids. They need to choose the child first. As a parent I get that. As a reader I don’t like it in Romancelandia.

I seriously had a hard time starting this story. I wasn’t sure if I liked Cameron or Jill. I wasn’t clicking with them and felt like everything was revolving around sex. I pushed on and was pleased that I did. They finally came to life and Kacey Shea gave us an interesting story.
Cameron was a complicated person. I am still not sure if I truly understand him. He started off being the man with the d*ck pics and ended up being a romantic. How he went from one end of the spectrum to the other is still a little confusing. But, once his secret was out, he stepped up and was finally honest and showed Jill the man he really was.
Jill didn’t earn my respect until very late in the story. I felt like she was in “woe is me” mode through most of the story and only stepped up when she had no choice. Even in the end, after she admitted that she loved him, she was wishy-washy about it. I seriously could not connect with her.
The story had some interesting parts but I felt like it didn’t mesh, I couldn’t feel the flow of the story. The supporting characters had their own problems and were pushing through them as Jill was going through hers. But, they all dropped everything and came running when she wanted them to. I didn’t feel the camaraderie that you usually feel between girlfriends … it felt like something was missing. Cameron’s brother was a total enigma … I really don’t know about Alicia or what her real story is … I’m not sure what Callie’s story is either. If this is part of a series and this has all be explained previously then, please forgive me but, I felt lost through most of the story.
Maybe if I understood the supporting characters, their back-grounds and how they fit into Cameron and Jill’s lives, I would have enjoyed this story a little more. I just felt like there needed to be more character building and maybe a little less of the sex. Sorry … there was a whole lot of sex. But, that aside, I did enjoy parts of the story line and most definitely enjoyed Kenslee.

5 HOT CAM STARS!! I freaking loved this book!! Cam and Jill are both perfection in my eyes. These two have issues with commitment, but are so hot together. Cam is one of those book boyfriends you will never forget. I am loving Kacey Shea phenomenal writing skills, that makes you fall in love with the characters....even when you want to hate them. I highly recommend this book.

Caught In The Lies is my favourite by Kacey Shea yet!
Cam and Jill are in love, everyone else can see that, but Jill knows she's not made for happy endings and they're both hiding so many things it would never work anyway.
Jill is keeping secrets, holding everyone at bay, from her boss pushing the limit on sexual harassment to whatever she's hiding about her family, and her actual feelings about Big D/@k Cam. Unfortunately she's not the only one, and when she finally finds out some of Cameron's past she can't believe she's been this stupid. She knows better than to trust him, these things never work out anyway, she's just not meant to heave a happy ending.
Cam is in love with Jill. He knows he wants her for the long haul, but with secrets like his would she even stick around? When she finds out what he's been hiding, Cam is more determined than ever to win Jill back.
My favourite book so far by Ms. Shea, Kacey gives action, fear, and secrets galore in Caught In The Lies. And don't forget the sexual tension! Cam and Jill practically combust any time they're in the same room, or in the middle of a torrential storm!
Worth a ton more than 5 stars, I can't wait to see what Kacey Shea delivers with Alicia's story in Caught In The Shadows!!

It was definitely a disappointment for me and I guess because I am a sucker for older man romances I jumped on this story immediately but for me....just didn’t grab my attention at all!

You don't have to read One Hot Night before diving into Cam and Jill's story, but why not! It's the basis for the start of their relationship in Caught In The Lies and it's HAF 🔥🔥🔥
Jill is young, Cam not so much. Regardless, both have secrets and scars they are too vulnerable to share with each other. They completely feed off one another and while their connection is complete fire, they start to click on an emotional level too. Unfortunately Jill is in complete denial about how Cam makes her feel, but it's real on every level. She's scared. And even though Cam has more life experience, he's just as nervous about what Jill makes him feel.
They both try to play their relationship off as nothing more than fun, but Cam soon realizes it's so much more. I really loved Cam, he was patient with Jill even when he didn't want to be. Heck I didn't want to be patient with her. But I knew it would take time for her to come to her senses and when she did, it was two pieces of a puzzle coming together.
Sweet, swoony and sexy banter was part of this enjoyable journey. Jill's friends were pretty awesome too. They really added a nice touch to this firey romance.

"I really enjoyed Caught In The Lies by Kacey Shea, and I know my review is not going to give it the justice it deserves.
An older man younger woman storyline, but that doesn't really explain it at all. Jill lives her life a certain way, but day by day Cam is chipping away at her self imposed rules. At times it seems she likes the way her relationship with Cam is changing, and at others she puts the breaks on and takes a step back. This makes her sound a bit wishy washy, but after you read her backstory it makes total sense.
Then there is Cam. Who doesn't like a hot fireman? And he is all that and more. He has some moments throughout the book that had me angry at him, but for such a strong man he is sometimes a little insecure. Even though he is so much older than Jill, what he feels for her he has never experienced before.
I really could go on and on but I think I will just end up by retelling the whole book. Looking forward to reading Alicia's story soon.

I liked a lot of things about this book. I enjoyed the characters (mostly) and the stories...but, it drives me nuts when the major conflict of the story is a misunderstanding that is generated by characters refusing to let the other explain and jumping to conclusions.
Also, the secret he was keeping didn't feel like something he'd actually be able to keep as a secret.
So, while I wanted to like the book, overall I struggled with it.

After I’ve read One Hot Night I couldn’t wait to get Caught in the Lies in my grabby hands! Jill and Cam consumed my mind! This couple is insanely hot, their relationship beyond sexy, and the emotional depth of their story sweeped me off my feet. They made me swoon, gasp, pant and filled my heart with every possible emotion. They both have some baggage and they’re trying to keep things casual, but with a connection like theirs it’s hard to not get attached. But what would happen when the secrets will come to light?
Cameron is a walking fantasy. I love this guy so much, it’s actually laughable. This older, sexy AF, dirty-talking, fun-loving fire captain will make you drop your panties and hand over your heart. He’s a perfect combination of alpha and patient, caring man. Le sigh! Jill is sassy, laid-back and smart-mouthed chick, who thinks that love and commitment isn’t worth the hassle. She built a thick wall around her heart, but Cameron seems to sneaked his way into it undetected. Despite Jill’s resistance the lines got blurred. It’s hard to fight the kismet, when it connects two people like two missing pieces of puzzle. But with doubts, sectrets and lies in the air, they both need to trust each other with their feelings and open their hearts.
Caught in the Lies is completely addictive and unputdownable. Kacey Shea got me hooked from the very first page and I couldn’t stop reading this book till I reached the end. Jill and Cam’s story was steamy, funny and emotional- absolutely perfect combination! And thank heaven that the main character is a firefighter, because the level of heat in this book can easily put your device on fire!

DNF-ed at 55%
1. The heroine's emotionally constipated. She's against commitment for some reason (this is alluded to in the first half, but probably only revealed later) and yet knows that she is falling in love with the hero. She does the whole push and pull thing, which isn't bad by itself, but she acts horribly about it.
2. The 16-year age gap. Even though the couple's are adults, this gave me the i c k. The hero's nearly 40 but acts like a young twenty-something. ICK.
3. The perceived cheating was also absolutely d u m b. At this point, I realised that I had wasted enough time and had to dip. The writing was boring and nothing much was really going on.

Ok be prepared to kiss you husband and kids goodnight, set yourself up with some drinks and snacks and buckle up for a late night because once you start Jill and Cam's story you won't want to put it down. I'm rocking a book hangover today but it's totally worth it. I also suggest you take advantage of the free prequel to find out the start of their story it really does put the book in perspective.
I don't want to give any spoilers but I want to express why I enjoyed this story so much. I loved Jill as the leading lady. She rides that fine line of sassy/funny really well which can be hard to find. She is very strong and independent but has a vulnerability to her that makes her more real. Then we meet Cam who is just Mr Perfect. To be fully honest I'm in a real fireman faze but that's not the only reason I loved him. He is such a gentleman and patient and alpha all rolled into one hot body. He also has a level of vulnerability that I found endearing. Cam is the guy we all hope to meet both physically and personality wise.
This story packs some steam but it's much more than that. There are many layers revealed as the story goes along leading the reader on a journey that is sometimes funny, heartbreaking and heartwarming. I fully recommend this book even if you haven't read book one. This is a 2019 must read and is in my top 3 reads this year.

Really didn't like Jill. She was just someone that I really couldn't find anything to empathise with. I think I was really pissed off with her handling of her work situation... everything about her character screamed that she wouldn't have let that persist... but she did.
And I really didn't like all the miscommunication - doesn't work for me.
I am not sure where this was supposed to sit within the different genres... it was sort-of angsty, sort-of 'sexy', sort-of 'strong female', sort-of 'alpha-male'... sort-of...
Ah well, lots of other readers loved this... and that is great... just not me.

Smoking hot
Emotional rollercoaster for sure. Hot, single, alpha, firefighting dad meets trust issue, broken, holding back woman. Her big secret could have been better. I have noticed a theme with these books, someone is always cheating (most of time it is an ex). But they are worth the read.

I honestly cannot say enough good things about Kacey Shea's Caught in the Lies! It was on fire sexy, emotion packed, and full of heart. I swooned, I laughed, totally cried, and completely fell in love with this book!
The banter between the main characters was perfection, and the chemistry was through the roof, with heat for days! The suspense of everything coming together had me reading on the edge of my seat with so much angst, racing to a conclusion. Let me tell you, author Kacey Shea did not disappoint! I loved this book throughout and the ending was all the feels and everything swoony!

This is the second book in the connected standalone stories written by Kacey Shea. This is a great age gap story (older man). Jill and Cam's story is fun, sweet, emotional, twisted, and beautiful. I loved it! Cam is a handsome firefighter, fun, bossy with a filthy mouth. He is also caring, patient, and protective. Jill is a lovely woman, fun, and strong. I love how the audiobook version brings this story to life. Savannah Peachwood and Jason Clarke did a great job with the narration. You don't have to read the free prequel to this story, One Hot Night, but it's free and it's a fun and sexy read before reading/listening to Caught in the Lies.

Caught in the Lies is a steamy love story that will have you on the edge of your seat and your anxiety at a five alarm level. Cam and Jill are two people taking each day with each other, one day at a time or so that is how they may want it to appear. As lies are told and secrets are harder to contain, tension grows between these two until it has no other option than to explode into soul shattering shards. Their story is emotional, passionate and at times nothing short of heart wrenching. I laughed, I cried, I jumped to conclusions but ultimately I worried that these two may not find their way out of the haze that surrounded their hearts. A story that will seduce and captivate you with words that will touch your heart and soul in a way that you will never expect.

I read the prequel to this book and had high hopes (it's super hot hot hot, no pun intended). Jill and Cam have some crazy chemistry and Jill does everything to try to avoid the relationship given her inner demons and the age difference. And Captain Cameron McLain (I mean come on with that name and title, perfect!) he's got some secrets, big big secrets. And I'm not going to lie, after Jill and Cam had been dating for 8 months before she mistakingly found out about his secret, I would have been just as upset. Overall this is a great book, loved her writing!

I can safely say I found a new author to love..
This story is so freaking exciting and hot..Jill and Cam are on fire, their chemistry so freaking off the charts..and let's not forget the secrets they both keep..they either bite them in the you know what and fall apart or grow stronger together..
I enjoyed this story very much and I have to say I won't be opposed to more Cam ;)

Captain with firehose! This steamy romance was fun and light.. Cameron and Jill were too cute together. Their relationship were explosive sexy... Cam was a total hotness and yes the story was captivating..

Some much emotion in this story. Her heart was coated in armour, but he slowly chipped away it till it was free. I felt every emotion in this book. Awesome.

I loved her sassy comebacks, he’s so strong and Alpha but when they’re together it’s just meant to be. But true to life nothing runs smoothly. Only my 2nd read from this author and I can’t wait for the next. Already pre-ordered. 💋👏

Oh, Mylanta, the romance in this book was sizzling! 🔥🔥 Kacey Shea did it again with an explosive couple along with amazing chemistry that you could feel coming off the pages. The emotion throughout this book had me in tears a few times hoping that they could finally find their HEA. This has to be on my Top 5 list that I've read this year!
Cam was truly the dirty-talking hero that any right-minded woman would want in her life. He had a great balance between being an Alpha and a true gentleman.

After finishing the prequel to this book I was super excited to see how these two would manage towards their HEA. For a moment there I thought it would not happen with Jill being as stubborn as she was. But she didn't see Cam coming and his determination to have her in his life. I've got to say a few things he did while he was growling were a bit »strange« but they made him get her back so all is good.
Both of them made me laugh, smile and cry but also made me real proud for finding the inner strength to keep fighting for each other because they just work no matter the age difference.
This book hit a personal note and I just want to say thanks to Kacey Shea for spreading the word around. 💙💙💙

Hot, sexy romance that had me read the book in one setting. Cam & Jill’s chemistry is off the charts. Heartbreaking and intense at times but so amazing you just feel this book in your heart! Definitely a must read 5/5 stars

Caught In The Lies is Lily and Cameron's book and it is full of steam , drama, lies, and truths. Lily never meant to fall in love with Cam but when his past and present come together some decisions have to be made. This book will have you emotional in certain areas. Kacey Shea did an amazing job on this book.

I started this book this morning and finished it a few hours later! This is by far my favorite Kacey Shea book to date!
Jill and Cam are in love with each other; anyone can see it, even them, but they choose not to voice it due to Jill's past with her family that she never talks about and Cam's pile of secrets. Will these two ever get it right and find their happy ever after? You'll just have to read to find out! ;)
What I will say is that this book took me on a wild ride of emotions. I cheered for these two to be together despite what was holding them back. Jill is considerably younger than Cam (mister big dick energy!😉) but age doesn't matter in life; it's what you experience that shapes you into who you are. Jill is holding onto a lot of pain, and believes that it's not worth it to love since it never works out in the end. However, Cam got through her high walls, and managed to make her believe they could defy the odds.
I really loved the snippets of Cam's POV we got, while it is mostly Jill's POV, the insight of Cam was perfect. This dirty talking, fun loving man was so much more underneath the surface, and it was so amazing seeing these two connect and falling in love.
Also the hot factor in this book is on a whole other level!!🔥🔥🔥
*Side note: This book does touch on sexual harassment in the work place, and how men of 'power' wield that to their disposal. I'm loving how more romance authors are shining light on this subject, especially since the #metoo movement became such a positive and encouraging place for women to speak up about what they have been through. My feminist heart fell in love with this author even more after that was included in the story. This is a subject that needs to be talked about more, since it happens way more than it should.
