Books Included: Little Dead Riding Hood (Book 13) Trick or Treat (Book 14) Blood Into Wine (Book 15) Jack in the Box (Book 16)
An eighteen-year-old girl sets out one November night to walk five blocks down Gleason Avenue to her boyfriend’s house. He calls her and she tells him she’s on her way. It’s a walk that should take ten minutes, but she never arrives.
When she does turn up, it’s five days later, washed up on the banks of the River Bronx, in Soundview Park, strangled to death.
The detective who investigates the murder, a friend of the family, finds no forensic evidence, nothing of interest in her phone records, no witnesses to the abduction or the murder. Nothing. The case goes cold.
Until her brother, Samuel, comes forward with new evidence he has found. And then the cases is handed to Detectives Stone and Dehan of the 43rd Precinct. They start asking the difficult questions, like how did she get into the river in the first place, and then the case starts heating up again…

I am truly enjoying binge reading these boxed sets! My last review was entirely about Banner's repetition of certain phrases in each and every book, and now I feel kind of bad because this next boxed set had very few of the usual repetitive themes (a few new ones but not so blatant). The mysteries are really taking shape and I am looking forward to the next few sets, although I hope I am wrong about something. It's really nice to be a part of the relationship's evolution.
Excellent writing and great characters. Like that the two detectives interact so well. The characters also bring the reader into the story! Great reading!
I have now read all 16 and just downloaded the next series.
What I like most about these books, there not really novels nor are they short stories but a "book" that you can read in a day or two. I would call them more of a novella's (each "book" is about 150 pages. This four "books" had excellent plots and they all had a "gotcha" at the end of each "book". All plots were completely different from the other so you don't feel like your re-reading a prior book.
Other than the main characters that move from book to book, none of the prior plots ever intertwine with a subsequent book, which I would like to see. That being said it makes it easy to pick up almost any group of books (there always in groups of four) and read them "cold".
So if you haven't read any of these books, do yourself a favor and read them, you won't be disappointed, they are very good.
May I have read too many cold case books in too short a time but this set was so predictable. Regan had theories that were wrong, Stone kept everything close to his chest until the last minute. They continue to clog their arteries with burgers and beer and each case requires a road trip or two. However the cases were as intriquing as ever do I am not giving up on Banner, I shall try a different series.
They obviously weren’t bad since I read all 16! Pleasant characters, reasonable action, quick reading, enough mystery to keep you guessing. Light reading, quick reading. Rather misogynistic main character (HE has all the big ideas, she has the little ones) but not in a jerk sorta way though if I was my daughters age it might annoy me more. Bottom line, cheap quick reading online. Wouldn’t pay for paper copies.
These 4 books were very good. I love Stone and Dehan together as a married couple investigating. There were twists and turns in all the vases that Stone could see but no one else could and again I which they'd give Dehan some credit. Everything is always Stone. However Dehan is a badass. Few errors with the wrong name being used throughout the books (eg in the last book saying Penelope when it should have said Helena) but overall written well and well Thought out
I would have failed grade school English if I had submitted work like this. Typos happen but poor grammar makes for slow reading. Many of the terms utilized do not translate the intended meaning; in the U.S. it's nine-thirty, not half nine; you turn on to a street and not into it (unless you're becoming part of it); and one climbs into a car, puts hands into their pockets, and so forth.
I enjoy the plots and characters. However what drives me crazy is the constant bad editing throughout the series. You read along and you have a hard stop to figure out what is wrong and then have to restart the book. Irratating.
I love this series. Still haven't totally figured one out before the end yet which is my main draw. Great escape from my Covid testing work! Thanks for helping me escape for a while.
Really enjoy this series. Beleiveable, down to earth, well written and who wouldn't be in love with Dehan. I just wish Amazon would stop changing the operations of Kindle.
I have really enjoyed these mysteries. I have now read 16 books and am looking forward to the next set. Blake Banner, I’m glad you are a prolific writer. You have kept me entertained for a couple of weeks now.
Cold cases at the police department are always there. In New York there are more than usual. Two detectives have been working the cold cases in their precinct. They ate pretty good at solving them. Read you might learn how their thought processes work.
Pretty interesting story lines. Generally predictable course of action But with some unexpected twists and turns. It's fun trying to figure out The ending as you are picking up the facts.
I absolutely love this series!!! I'm on the last books and wish they'd keep going! Stone and Dehan are the perfect patners and work off each other to solve crimes!!! I highly recommend this author's work!
