A note from Audrey: Some series can be read out of order - this isn’t one of them. Start with Alpha and welcome to Ghost Mountain!

That day when a polar bear shifter arrives in a plane full of purple yarn and all hell breaks loose...

Ronan is coming. He’s a big bear—an enormous bear—and arriving at Ghost Mountain is going to change the shape of who he is forever. All it will take is a little engineering, a lot of duct tape, and a pack willing to use history and hope to do the impossible.

4.5/5.0

I think this book in the Ghost Mountain series is arguably one of my very favorites. I absolutely adore Ronan, the big polar bear! I love everything about his story of a lifetime of making his apex predator bear smaller so that his human can be loved. Then watching as he is allowed the room and love to grow and let that bear out while still keeping the soft and tender side. It was wonderful.

My only hesitation in enthusiastically hitting that five star button is in the small things we miss that I think should be there for a truly fully rounded story. We never get to see what happens when Ronan goes to talk to Damien about returning home. That is a huge thing, but we only hear that he did it after the fact, and not even then are we allowed to know what happened. Also, Hayden and Lissie (the alpha of this entire series whose story with Lissie was told in book one) still haven’t mated, even though they are accepted as if they have. Small things like these that don’t diminish the loveliness of the overall story but are noticed and missed.

The best compliment I have is this:

I finally received my email link to the review copy of this book while out of town. I originally planned to save it for the plane ride back, but instead read it one sitting in the hotel.
You see, I thought it would make me cry since Audrey Faye writes emotional character growth like no one else. But interestingly enough, Ronan’s story didn’t make me cry. I loved Ronan finding new connections and strengthening old ones. Loved all the characters I’ve watched grow continuing to find their feet and their way home.
I also love that everyone in this series grows in their own way at their own pace. There is no such thing as one size fits all. There’s a lot of romance overall, but not every book has a HEA. They don’t need it.

Full disclosure, this series propels characters forward and it should be read in order. But there also isn’t a whole lot of “action”. We’re 6 books in and they’re still trying to get homes built, and all the physical bad guys were banished in the space of one book. So if you need action, give this a pass. But if you love character growth, revisiting old friends with each new book and are a fan of paranormal shifters, give this a shot. It’s unlikely to disappoint!

I love these characters, and Ronan especially, but boy do I wish Audrey Faye would write more directly about their feelings and relationships sometimes. I’m so weary of watching them communicate by giving each other berry bars and throwing pinecones and sending each other hand signals. We also continue to be starved of back stories, some of which are clearly complicated and fraught, but all we get are little hints and references to off-page encounters. And the drama drought continues. Anything truly interesting seems to happen out of sight, and instead we get lots of scenes with laying pipes and connecting wires. Case in point here: Ronan goes to bring the young rogue wolf Damien back to the pack and we’re told that what he says convinces him to return. But we never see it! It’s only talked about obliquely by others. We also know that the teenagers of the pack talk to Ronan’s fellow polar bear Ivan about him - but we don’t know the contents of that conversation! It’s driving me bananas to get so little of the good stuff.

I’m definitely reading on, because I want to nibble the crumbs we get dropped on my favourites (Kel, Kennedy, Lissa) but argh my kindle for a direct conversation.*

*i’m joking obvs I would never give up my kindle under any circumstances.

These stories are far too sweet and sentimental and there is too much introspection and soul searching, but for some reason I still enjoy them. I just wish there was a bit more happening to dilute some of the saccharine.

What I hoped for but better.

I so love this ongoing tale of rebuilding.

Ronan. Friends. Pack needs vs animal needs vs people needs.

Bear was everything I hoped for and more. Have already re-read Bear at least 3 times and looking forward to the next. Ghost Mountain Pack is coming together one wonderful character at a time.

Highly recommend this whole series. One of my go to series when I need positive energy.

Ronan!

This was a heavy heavy book emotionally, like could almost be hard to read if you aren't in a good place emotionally yourself. There were good and bad things about this book, so here we go.
The Good:
I was pleasantly surprised to see this book available on Amazon, so of course I downloaded it immediately.
For once the author didn't have as many characters as she normally does, which made it easier to keep up.
It was a great home finding for Ronan
A lot of growth for the pack as a whole.
There was some romance but not till the end even though it starts right off from the beginning with the inclination that there will be romance, so I am glad the author didn't make it the main event.
Grammar and proofreading was on point - kudos!
The Bad
As previously mentioned the emotional onslaught, I have never read a book with so much emotional turmoil, it probably should have had a trigger warning. It was so heavy, at times unbearably heavy. Books are a happy place, and this book definitely danced the line of that.
There was a lot of engineering jargon and technical talk, made the read very cumbersome. I think for the purpose of this book, we really didn't need that. The author could have maybe minimized that talk, it didn't really add to the story, especially if you are only trying to show that Danielle fixes things - we get it, lol! The unnecessary jargon could have been filled with more relevant story.
At times the book seemed all over the place, there was a lot of inner dialogue from different characters and then you mix that in with what's happening in the book, this seemed to get muddy at times. It could have been better executed.
There needs to be a character tree, it's easier to follow when we have something to reference with the so many characters! Maybe if I say it enough, it might happen.
All in all, it was a decent book, not necessarily my favorite, but I do love the series because it's not the typical wolf book and not all about romance, I also like Ronan more than other characters. I would say it's more of a 3.5 than 4 though.
You do need to read this to keep going with the series so just prepare yourself beforehand for the emotional triggers.
Anxiously anticipating the next read!

Bear- Ronan's story
Polar Bear shifter Ronan when just barely an adult was expelled from his home in the north. Brought to the Whistler Pack by Ames, James Scott convinced his mate to let him stay. He has become a beloved member of the Pack.
Ronan at 44 is lively member of the Pack. A talented engineer, he teaches at University, he mentors anyone he can get his paws on, he helped Jules Scott start her company, Home Wild. President of the crafters guild and a knitter. He has finally made it to Ghost Mountain. He nearly looses control of his bear when he lays eyes on Reilly's mom, Danielle, the self taught repair women of the pack.
Indrani, Ronan's intern has taken great pleasure in helping Danielle, Eliza and Glow expand their engineering skills and has made great friends and has become pack. She is now helping them adjust to the larger than life Ronan. He is happy to foster and teach the self taught wolves.
Rilley and the pups adore Ronan. The teens find and indulgent father figure and teacher.
Ronan meddles like and Elder. Evan is doing well with the Cats. Ronan is determined to get Eliza's Damien home.
Hayden, Rio and Kel did not miss the reaction Ronan had to Danielle. They are well aware of what it means. The complications it presents. The hard choice they may have to make. The Pack makes room for Ronan so he can be as big as he needs. Even the Ghost members find safety in his presence in their woods. They want him to stay.
With Ivan's help, 13 fatherless pups, teens and a cub present Ronan with a gift, and a hopeful request, that will give his bear what he needs to safely stay.
Ronan is friend, safe, no harm, and likes muffins. He has a mate and now a dad.
Merna's middle and youngest sons have felt the call to come home.
Great series. not a stand alone, needs to be read in order. Rate PG-13

When this started out with Ronan arriving at Ghost Mountain and immediately recognizing Danielle was his mate, I about clapped my hands with glee. We’re finally going to get a strong romance arc, I thought. Unfortunately, I was wrong.

We got plunged right back into the world of pipes and berry bars and way too many metaphors instead of just straightforward storytelling. I respect that Faye is being respectful of the pack healing from trauma but there’s a way to do that without completely sacrificing plot or disclosing any details about characters’ pasts. This is Ronan’s book ostensibly and yet there’s still so much I don’t know about him. Why did he leave the polar bears, how did he decide to go to college, is he still in touch with his parents??? We’re told nothing. It also wasn’t clear whether Adrianna mismanaged Ronan when he came to Whistler Pack. If wolves and bobcats are fine as shifters, why are polar bear shifters considered so much more dangerous? I didn’t get it.

But the real kicker was the lack of building intimacy between Ronan and Danielle. Matehood remains a mystery in this world. Perhaps this is an overcorrection from fated mates, which can have consent issues. But Danielle’s feelings evolved out of nowhere and Ronan seemed to have forgotten that he’d ever recognized her as his mate for most of the story. Then bam, out of nowhere, they’re together? I guess?

More showing, less symbolism going forward please. We also need better rep when it comes to race and ethnicity. Ronan is Black, a detail I only really know since it was mentioned the first time he appeared in the series. It’s barely mentioned here, even though we get his POV the most.

A disappointing installment in a series I otherwise love. On a positive note, the role of ASL in the pack continues to be delightful. I hope the next book will go better.

Characters: Ronan is a 44 year old Black polar bear shifter and engineer. Danielle is a wolf shifter and engineer. She’s the mother of Reilly, an 11 year old half-grizzly bear, half-wolf. This is set in British Columbia.

Content notes: fatherless secondary characters (including children), past abuse by former alpha for the whole pack (physical, emotional, verbal, financial), pregnant secondary characters, past death of spouse (secondary character), alcohol, ableist language, references to pregnant secondary character vomiting,

I know I sound like I'm on a repeating loop with the Ghost Mountain Wolf series reviews, but reading these books is like coming home to old friends and you can hardly wait to visit with them. This book is about Ronan's visit to the Ghost Mountain pack. Ronan is a polar bear shifter, an apex predator who could be a very frightening bear. The scarred, broken, but healing members of this pack try to 'read' Ronan to see if they can trust him and if there may be a place for him. There's not a lot of blood, gore, and tense action in this series. But the interaction and view points of so many characters are so interesting and woven together so well. It's addicting. No one writes books of love, friendship, hope, healing and redemption quite like Audrey Faye. I love the characters, their world, and how they support and grow with each other. I strongly recommend this book. But be warned, you should start with the first book of the series and read it through to get the background of each character and to keep them straight. I think you'll enjoy every book.

Bear is the sixth book in the Ghost Mountain Wolf Shifter series by Audrey Faye.

So many sections and moments of this book, nearly entirely, brought me such happiness. I didn’t even dare hope that Ronan would come and find a place in Ghost Mountain. Or that he would be a great catalyst of healing.

But from the first step off the plane he opened my eyes to the possibilities. This book lit on the one main missing component in this series. Mated pairs. The fated, smell your other half and know certainty that you had found your missing piece. Which in all honesty is something that I can’t help but imagine as a vital part of shifter literature.

There were great big overtures made towards the pack as a whole’s healing and some very important individual parts as well.

I’m most excited to finally get to the full building of the den. And then be there with Myrna as her children come home. I’m also intrigued by the little tease of love between Ebony and Eliza that may come.

Ghost Mountain

I wanted to love this series because I usually really like most of Audrey’s books in both her pen names. I did think the first one was a fun read. However, I’m not a fan of the multiple points of view and the extremely limited storyline. Nothing really happens, it’s basically feel good and perfect even though we know there was a dysfunctional abusive pack prior to Hayden taking over. I just keep waiting for some real struggle for them to overcome, running out of purple yarn just isn’t that interesting. The characters are pretty one dimensional for me and that could be because the multiple POV keep us from really getting to know any one character well enough to really care about them. I’m glad this series has found its niche though, it’s just not for me.

When I realized that this book would be about Ronan visiting the pack I was excited. From the start when the pack was just starting to come alive again he was right there cheering them on, making crazy trades and letting their bear cub know everything he needed to about being a bear.

Ronan's first steps in the the den was a bit crazy, but I loved what he realized. Sure more was at stake for him, but it would be worth it. What I didn't expect to find was that Ronan, a big polar bear shifter, was just as fragile as some of the ghost shifters the pack had. I loved how the pack let him know he was welcomed in small and big ways, but Danielle's song was the best! I think the only thing that beat the song was how all the cubs offered to help shore up Ronan, such a great thing on both sides!

I like bears

And cats, birds and silly alphas who help make a broken pack whole.

This is a series that needs to be read in order. If it bothers you you to have chapters from more than one character you may not want this, but without those there would only be one view point which would take away some of the richness I found.

It is a thoughtful story about trust, family, healing, friends and a future built on pain, guilt and determination helped by the alpha who was taking a walk in the woods, with two friends who saved the life of a cub and his mother.

It may not be a story for everyone but I have read one after the other and will start the last today. Started on Kindle unlimited and then purchased the series.

I do like this series very much. However, this book dealt a lot with so many methods of distraction. I found myself breezing through sections about wiring and cables. I had to re-read a few sections to make sure I understood what was building up. Also, it was very frustrating that more of the discussion with Damien wasn't outlined - at least a reference to the talk actually occurring would have been good. I felt like I had missed something when he just showed up. I actually double checked the previous chapter to see if anything was there. It was just really abrupt.

Like previous books in the series there is plenty of feel good emotion in this. How to build a life where you are truly seen and loved. It is a beautiful thing.

Another feel good book in this feel good series about people working together to heal themselves and one another. About the best of humanity, really. And this one is about a polar bear, a couple other bears, and some wolves, with a few birds and a cat tossed in here and there. It’s the first book in the series that hasn’t focused on a member of the Ghost Mountain Pack…or on Hayden who came in from the outside and took over. It was never highlighted, but now that I’m writing this and thinking back on it, it was nice to see one of the messages is that these people who have been so hurt and damaged themselves can reach outside themselves and hold space for someone else’s hurt - can recognize someone else’s hurt. It was good.

I loved this book. Book 6 in an ongoing series about a wolf pack that was shattered, abused, rescued, recovering. Each book is really about a different main set of characters but each book shows all the previous characters and how they are doing.

It's an unusual type of book and is hard to quantify for genre. It follows the pack and its members, not just one couple or just a few characters but all are shifters of some sort. Sometimes the romance is there, in small sweet doses. Mostly it is about the pack and how it is handling being under new leadership.

This particular book shows how the pack has grown enough to welcome new members.

Sniff, Sniff...What a Wonderful Story

I have loved all of the Ghost Mountain Wolf Shifter stories so far, but “Bear” seemed more emotionally charged—all in a good way.

I knew that Ronan’s story would be coming but the depth of emotion and his impact on the rest of the shifters was unexpected. I don’t want to sneak any spoilers in, but this is a story you don’t want to miss!

Sorry, if you’re new to the series, you really need to read them in order...but they’re all great reads!

You need to read these books in the correct order

Another heartwarming tour de force from Audrey Faye who has a talent for mixing emotion and empathy with the doings of Ghost Mountain pack. In this book Ronan the Polar Bear of knotting fame finally visits the pack and becomes central to the emotional heart of the pack in ways he found not conceive. We find out the difficulties shiftets have in balancing their anomalies and their human and once again the pack submissives rise to the occasion.

A book good enough to fight Covid19

During the COVID Crisis I struggled to concentrate to read. Developing symptoms on 8 March and still suffers from symptoms 6 weeks later, it took this book to entice me back to reading. As a bookworm it had fern disconcerting not to be able to get stuck into a good book; but pack wrapped round and supported me back to my hone.

Ghost Mountain is always a place to find family, resilience and tough truths. This instalment is no different. With the added bonus of extra Ronan and Reilly. I can’t wait for the next update.

Tear jerker

Ronan was a huge personality in previous books. I would've liked to see more of him. There is a lot of meandering and POV switches that don't add anything.

He is a good match for Danielle, but this isn't a romance. There are barely any interactions between them, and only slightly more noticing of each other. This is more about healing the pack and giving space for people to be their best selves.

What Audrey does best is create emotional moments for her colorful characters.

This series is just a big stream of consciousness, and sometimes that's exactly what you need.

In this installment, Ronan finally comes to visit the pack under the guise of helping with some engineering for the hot springs and setting up the den. But all of that changes as soon as he gets off the plane and sets on one wolfy engineer.

I liked this book just as much as the others. My brain needs a little break from the series since I've basically lived and breathed it for the past week and the writing is starting to feel monotonous, but I'll definitely come back to finish soon.

Enchanting and heartwarming

I love this ongoing story of the Ghost Mountain pack along with all its supporters. I want them to host a summer camp so I can spend time visiting too.
If you are new to this series go back to the beginning and start with Alpha, you will love the journey you will be taken on. The characters you meet and the stories you hear will make you laugh, cry and melt.
I am so looking forward to the next release. Make it happen soon please Audrey.

I love this series. It is warm and heart-felt and feel-good. The only complaint I have ever had is that there are so many characters that I can't keep them all straight. Someone needs to develop a org chart of the pack. I also struggle with the varying POVs, but I don't think that there would be any other way of telling the story. Five stars because the author has written characters that I care enough about to cry when big things happen to them.

Another story that wraps around your heart

The way she intricately weaves the stories of so many characters is amazing. Their are dozens of them but it doesn't at all get in the way of telling the tale. You quickly feel yourself pulled in and find your heart rooting for every one of them to have a positive outcome. And, you can't help but love all of them. It's an uplifting read. I highly recommend this book as well as the 5 others before it.

Amazing

What a wonderful and loveable series, I read all 6 books in a few days and was disappointed I had reached the end!
I'm not going to soothe usual and explain what the books abroad it would spoil the beauty of it.
However: I would love to have a book solely about Kel and then one in Rio. As it would be interesting to learn more about their past.
The same goes for Haydon

It's slow, and just what is often needed after a hectic day

Sometimes, I want to put it down. If I wanted to condense the actual storyline, I'd only have a handful of sentences. But it's a long book. And quite perfect these days when I just want some calm and good after a hectic day full of pain and hate and war. It reminds me how to act when those around me make me forget to be a proper human being. Thank you!

I cry

I cry my way through this series . It's hard work, but all the good stuff is .
I even get my own epiphanies while reading this, hearing some of my own truths.
I've said it before in a review, it is one long series about healing and finding your way back home, a different shifter theme that the shifter books I normally find myself reading.

This time it's Danielle s story, and Ronans..

And now I'm on to reading book 7.
