OK, OK, I've established my sheer hatred of sports here on Goodreads. HOWEVER. After reading this book for a third-grade book report I have to say that I love Lou Gehrig, despite the fact he was a professional athlete. He was one of those rare people who achieved excellence by sheer hard work and perseverance. The fact that he never got a swelled head only adds to his stature as a great human being.
I also want to say that, if you can listen to Gehrig's farewell speech and don't break down into loud, bawling sobs, you should be officially kicked out of the human race.
