I mean, do these storylines not follow like those old school arcade video games? You have to defeat the small villains each level before you get to the big boss in the end xD I'm not complaining, but I am since I'm binge-reading these and seeing the same battles each arc, but what the hell, I still love it. I definitely love the introduction of the Master Pharaoh 90 Arc. Like dang. Also the introduction to the two new scouts (I guess it's spoiler if I say?) is clever as hell, and at the age of eight, was quite the plot twist haha.

*Disclaimer for this series: The nostalgia is so real. I'm reading the '98 English translation versions because that is what I grew up with. So as I re-read this, essentially all of them will be 5-star because 7 year old Lainey won't allow me to rate them any less. So if you're looking for a critical review on these volumes, lol, you will not get it.

Sagas manga leídas: ''Sailor Moon'', y ''Sailor V'', de Naoko Takeuchi. Glénat, edición española. 18 y 3 tomos.
¿Quién no conoce ''Sailor Moon''?

The cover is fantastic and I like sailor moon very much, but I dont like that Chibiusa became a black lady. This part of story isnt interesting and the drawing is a bit scary. But if You are a fan of sailor moon, You rather should read everything what is inside of the books

Review for complete series

Sailor Moon is a fundamental series of manga. Most manga fans and readers will have read it or at the very least be familiar with the character and plot. I was one of those who did not grow up with Sailor Moon; I never really saw the anime episodes and by the time I started to read the manga the Sailor Moon series was long out of print. Nonetheless, I had an idea of what the series was about, the characters and of course the fact that it was famous and very popular. By now I have watched the first season and have read the series. Prior to reading it my expectations of this series were not too high – sure, there must be something about it that so many people would love it. But I also thought that a lot of its high praise must come from that air of nostalgia that Sailor Moon will always have. Despite my doubts, after having read it I feel that this manga truly deserves all the praise it receives!

There are a few things that I did not like – but that holds true for most things. For one thing, Sailor Moon does, in no way, look or act like a 14-year old. I would have been much happier if she were just a few years older. Mamoru is a nice character but the poor guy is pretty much the only representative of males. All other male characters that appear are only around for a couple of chapters, villains, minor characters or women disguised as men. And then, although it is typical for magical girl manga, the name of their attacks. I do not mind them having hearts and whatnot all over their costumes – but all the spells with sugar heart rains and the like were too much for me.

However!

Sailor Moon was so much more than what I expected of a magical girl series. Magical girl types of series often leave me with a lot of disbelief and hardly ever do more than just provide a bit of entertainment. I always thought of Sailor Moon to be just like that but the author delivered such beautiful and logical explanations to all the events happening. I loved the whole concept of the story and it let the characters be true guardians of the earth rather than teenagers in sparkly costumes. I am no big fan of science fiction but I loved how the author played with time and space. Because she managed to make Sailor Moon's role so much more believable for me, it was so much easier to route for her and feel with her through all the hardships.

I loved the power of friendship in this work and the romance between Sailor Moon and Mamoru was beautiful. I watched the first season of the anime before reading the manga: the relationship between Sailor Moon and Mamoru was ridiculous but the manga version just made my heart feel warm. The beautiful artwork of the author helped, of course. But all scenes between Sailor Moon and Mamoru were so gentle and warm. I loved how their memories of their past lives slowly returned to them.

The other thing is the art. The artwork is one of the most important things for me when reading a manga and Sailor Moons is just so astonishingly beautiful. Sailor Moon as a character was also very nice – she grows so much throughout the series and she is nowhere as annoying as she was in the anime adaption. It is also nice how the author goes into the other characters dreams and wishes and does not only focus on Sailor Moon – another thing that many magical girl manga do.

The series delivers many lovely and also comical scenes which is good because it also has many (to me unexpected) dark scenes. I probably enjoyed the middle arcs the most. However, I was very interested in the final arc about Sailor Galaxia and was rather disappointed that it fell so short. I think there could have been a lot more about that arc and I would have liked to have learned more about Sailor Galaxia’s motives and origins as well as the purpose and system of the Cauldron and how it creates the stars and planets.

All in all: nothing but the highest praise for Sailor Moon! I liked this series so much more than what I always what I always thought I would and I think it is never too late to become a fan!

This was a solid 3.5 - and it's possibly the point where I take a break on trying to read all of the Sailor Moon manga. Don't get me wrong - the beginning of this was so strong! I absolutely love the relationship between Uranus/Neptune, and Sailor Moon's quiet melancholy regarding the outer Soldiers and their lonely watch over the Silver Millennium was so heartbreaking. I think that is truly a strength of the Sailor Moon manga - Sailor Moon is such a thoughtful empath, and when she grieves over her inescapable destiny, I can't help but grieve with her.

The introduction of Hotaru/Sailor Saturn as the fated harbringer of death, a destroyer of worlds when all seems lost, was also another chance to introduce some brilliant character development. Chibimoon was really allowed to come into her own when she had scenes with Hotaru, and seeing Hotaru give her life for Chibi was so sweet and sad and absolutely sapphic. You can't tell me these girls don't love each other!! Mamoru saying that he felt like he'd just given up his daughter as a bride (to Hotaru) is just - ah! So sweet, so lovely, so proof of Chibimoon and Hotaru's love!!

However, the villains of this story were so, so weak and it made the overall plot drag so much. It took me four months to read this manga because I hated the battle scenes - they dragged on much more than usual and I honestly don't read Sailor Moon for the battle scenes, they're definitely not the strongest point of the manga. The villains are defeated once, and then they all come back and it's, ugh, so tiring. I really want to read all 12 manga chapters of Sailor Moon someday, but if the villains continue to be as weak as they were in this volume, then that's gonna be a hard task... Still, there's a LOT to love in this volume! I just found myself skimming through the battle scenes, and there's a lot of them, so that was a shame...

This volume closes out the Black Moon arc and begins the Pharaoh 90 arc. And damn was it a good volume. Sailor Pluto breaks the third and most important taboo, she stops time in order for Sailor Moon to steal back the Imperium Crystals from Prince Diamond. The taboo is what kills Sailor Pluto, the red garnet, her talisman, drained her life to stop time. The death of Sailor Pluto wakes Wicked Lady up and brings about the realization she's not alone and Sailor Mini-Moon is born! Sailor Moon takes down nemesis with the help of Darien. It was super romantic as the power of their love creates the rod used to defeat Wiseman. Neo-Queen Serenity grants all the Sailor Scouts a power-up and they have their new transformations (finally!). The volume ends with the introduction Pharaoh 90, having inhuman creatures crawling out of students bodies. We also meet Michiru and Haruka. <3
It was an intense volume with gorgeous romance, beautiful character development, and the first major death in the series. The loss of Pluto was heartfelt, especially with Rini's raw reaction. Sailor Pluto had such a sad life, stuck alone forever guarding the door of Time. A strong entry into the series.

4 estrellas.

So far this has been my favorite storyline. Things are a little ridiculous but considering when it was written I’m not all that surprised. Still love it though.

Story: Like a fine wine Sailor Moon R gets better with time from it's predecessor Sailor Moon. The Black Moon Arc introduces the same cast of characters are back with new villains to fight. The series arc split in two with the first part having the Doom Tree aliens appear, Ann and Alan. The second part of the series introduces the Black Moon villains. This time there is a little surprise waiting for Serena and Darien, Rini, there are also three new scouts that are found: Neptune, Uranus, and Saturn.

Drawing Style: The drawing is in the same style as in Sailor Moon. Simple, realistic and for the time period.

Characters: The characters and story continue to be developed as the mystery of what happened in the Crystal Kingdom is revealed and the destiny of the characters is foretold. The new characters (Especially the corresponding villains) are a good foil for the characters that were already introduced.

Overall: I thought that the second series arc of Sailor Moon was better than the first. The whole entire plot development takes on a new step in the second series making the volumes irresistible and the characters more lovable that before.

Note: This review was completed after reading volumes 4-10.

To be honest, I didn’t think I was going to like this manga. In fact, I was expecting to loathe it. To my surprise, I didn’t.

To be clear, I didn’t love this manga. I don’t know what it is about this series but it’s a manga that I would love to bash but at the same time there’s this charm and likability to it that I just can’t bring myself to hate it.

Sailor Moon is the shojo manga that basically started the magic girl story in manga. It’s very predictable and cheesy. But that's part of its' charm. Since it is also a romance, it tends to have those romantic clichés such as the main couple being total opposites and not getting along.

While the main character is a bit whiny and a crybaby at times, I didn't find her so unbearable that I couldn't stand her at all. Her slightly annoying personality is a lot better than having no personality at all.

Regardless, no matter how many flaws this manga has, I have to admit that there is this charm to it that just makes it kind of likable. Some of the characters are likable and the plot did move surprisingly fast. Much like my review of Dragon Ball Z I don't love the franchise but I do admire and respect it for what it has done for the Shojo manga and magic girl genre.

I do not have much to say other than this was messy again and the morals and ideals of the characters especially Pluto, Neptune and Uranus
It felt so rushed involving what they were doing and what really was the right thing to do

One of my all-time favorite series. The gateway series to getting me into anime and manga! The artwork impressed me so much, and the story was fun. It is still one of my favorites both because it's well-done, and for nostagia reasons.

This is the version that came out during the middle age of manga: before they stopped flipping the artwork, but right as TokyoPop was starting to emerge, and the volumes got cheaper. Unfortunately you could see it in the quality, as there were a lot of typos and sometimes the edges of pages would get cut off.
