Eighteen year old, Aileen Forrester, also known as Cinnamon, surprises her parents and friends when she leaves school her senior year and attempts to hike the entire Appalachian Trail. On the trial, Cinnamon encounters colorful and humorous hikers, takes dangerous risks, and faces an inner struggle with self awareness. On September 11, the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center impacts the entire hiking goup and, even in the wilderness, they must wrestle with worldwide problems.
So I read this tons growing up and loved it, but rereading it as an adult I do see it being written for the younger age group. Still has the nostalgia for me though so I can't rate any lower haha
Read this for the KU Literature Festival Oct 18th. The author will be there to present along with Clare Vanderpool.
Fast read! Girl graduates from HS early and decided to spend the extra time hiking the Appalachian Trail through 13 states on 2,160 miles of wilderness. This tells of her adventures, how she meets and becomes friends with others on the hike.
I enjoyed this read, although I believe it could have had more depth to the story to make it even better.
