You know what I hate most on heroines? When they first put their eyes on the hero they become a mumbling mess who can’t form sentences. Why oh why, authors continue doing this i will never know. And why the heroine has to be this frumpy looking woman that wears Ill-fitting clothes when going to an job interview?
A convo between the heroine and MJ Heroine: “is he single?” MJ: “I’m not sure. He’s not married, though.” Heroine: “is that why you’re dressed so nicely? For him?” MJ: she scoffed. “I dress like this because I’m fabulous, honey.”
And that’s why I liked MJ at first and I wished she was the heroine. Although i didn’t like the heroine’s thoughts about MJ. It wasn’t until later we find out MJ liked to gossip around the office. There was one thing about the heroine that I liked. She was a good mother. She wanted to provide a good life for her son. She didn’t want to depend on her parent’s help to do it. Her parents were amazing!
At first Hero was a bit of a jerk. It was clearly that he was noticing her after she dressed better the second day of work. He explained that he was smitten with her the second he met her but when he saw her wedding rings he thought she was taken. He chased, he wooed her, she pushed. I for 1 was glad that she wasn’t chasing because I hate when the woman chases the man. And when she explained that she was married for 12 years and just has gotten divorced a few months before and she wanted to find herself, get her education, a future and she wasn’t ready to date anyone he backed off. He didn’t pushed or pressured her like many asshole heroes who are in the women’s face because they want a chance with them. But then she started missing his advances, the woman ran hot and cold. So she threw herself at him after telling him that she wasn’t ready for a relationship with a man. She gave me whiplash with how she wanted him but she really didn’t, wanted him again but she really didn’t again.
“These hands will be used to protect you, not to hurt you,” he said as he kissed each one of my knuckles one at a time. “Always.” “Touch my muscles, Tasha. Feel how hard they are, how strong they are.” “These muscles are to cover you. A place of refuge to curl into when you’re in need of a safe place. They will not be used to overpower you. Ever.” “Feel my lips.” “These lips will be used to make you feel like the goddess you are in any way possible. These lips will be used to tell you every day how beautiful you are, to tell you how amazing you are, how smart. They will never be used for anything vulgar.” It may sounds corny but I liked that he told her this after he punched her ex. She thought the hero might be another person who uses his fists but she knew deep down he wasn’t anything like her ex. 🤷🏻♀️
Hero was too good to be true. And even his love for his dead wife did not bother me. And I’m glad the author did not trashed her character. I didn’t feel that the heroine was second best. Yes, he did loved his wife and son very much.
This is an office romance. I understood her initial trepidation which could have easily been solved by transferring her to another department. It's a fine line between attraction and harassment when the boss is interested in you. He made it clear (words & glances) he was attracted to her and the feelings were mutual -- after sharing a scorching kiss the heroine gets cold feet and tells him to back off -- he does. Can she leave it at that? No, of course not! Missing the attention he showed her, she comes on to him after an office party. The next morning Ms. Regret makes an appearance and the heroine pushes the hero away ... again!
And so it goes ... over and over again. The heroine constantly runs hot and cold and her indecisiveness annoyed me. When the hero defends her honor it triggers a negative response in her and she sees him as a monster despite having evidence to the contrary. More power to the hero, he saved this story AND he had the patience of a saint.
I have had this book for over a year and finally got around to read it.
This is scott and Tasha's story. Tasha was in an abusive marriage so she was not ready for what Scott could bring to her life. I did want to slap her through the story several times because she kept blowing hot and cold with Scott because she was desperate not to make another mistake and way too concerned about what other thought about their relationship, that she was going to let a good man get away from her.
The story was from her prospective. I really loved Scott he was a good solid man who stood by her even when she was acting the fool.
If this book doesn’t make you laugh, cry, put it down a few times then nothing will. Tasha, a survivor of an abusive marriage, takes a job as the PA to Scott CEO. Scott is reserved and rather mysterious but handsome, hard working and a good boss. We find out that he had feelings almost immediately but because Tasha continues to wear her wedding ring as a reminder he did not act on them. Scott was the best hero I have “met” in a while. He lost his family in an accident but is now open for love. Unselfishly and also sweetly he tries to give that love to Tasha. Because of her experiences with her abusive husband Tasha is reluctant to take what he is offering. I won’t retell the story but I will say that it had everything that was needed to make for compelling storytelling. Ms. Garner, the only thing missing was Scott’s voice. You did a lovely job of telling the story from Tasha’s perspective but please consider letting us hear the male’s voice in your next story, too. Thank you.
If two people ever needed each other, it's definitely them. His story broke my heart, and she needed a loving hand. Starting from scratch can be scary, but for Tasha, it was the best decision she could have ever made. And as much as it seems like the heroine needs saving, the hero was just as in need as she was. Their relationship was as hot as it was beautiful, and I enjoyed this couple, setbacks and all. I really would have loved to have seen the future Blaine family, especially when I thought the book had 10% more to go. A good story will make you greedy I guess.
I loved this story! Loved Scott and Tasha!!!! Scott was a wonderful character, very hit, sexy, and so full of passion. I have gotten somewhat jaded with these billionaire CEO having instant hots for their secretaries/assistants. The plot lines seem the same, but what I liked about this one was the painful pasts they needed to move forward. I loved how he was patient with her, and how deeply he loved her. At times Tasha was annoying. She almost threw away the best thing that ever happened to her, but thank god good prevailed. They deserved a happy ending. The story was excellent, and will read more by this author.
As I finished this book...I am wondering how did I miss this book? From the very beginning the author brings you into Tasha’s world. Tasha is a struggling mother who is a part time student in debt up to her eyeballs. She takes a job to make ends meat only to meet her very sexy boss Scott...the writing is so engaging before you know it your pissed that you are almost finished.
2.5 stars I'm disappointed in the heroine. She jumped from an abusive relationship totally dependent on her ex to starting and affair with her boss and becoming dependent on him. She didn't try to be self sufficient just jumped right back into another relationship. I dislike storylines where the couple has sex in the office, very unprofessional. This is my first time reading this author and will try another book.

Tasha was trying to start her life again after leaving her abusive ex husband and moving closer to her parents to take care of her son, work & go to school. Her new job as an assistant to the CEO is great Scott is a great boss. But they like each other and she is scared.
I really liked Scott's personality, but I got annoyed with Tasha. She acted like she was all that, and then got upset when Scott didn't pay her any attention. She could not handle that, so she came onto him. So indecisive! He let her know that he was interested, but she constantly played hard to get! So annoying, but I liked that they got their happy ending!
This was such an enjoyable book to read, once it started it was hard to put down. The writer brings you in on a terrific storyline and one that gets you going.I.look forward to more from this writer.
Honestly I don't know what Scott saw in Tasha, she was to insecure for me that why I give the book 4 stars. Scott was great and Tasha didn't deserve him. She needed therapy to heal from her previous abusive relationship.
I really enjoyed this book! I'm a fan of girl power themes, and this one struck a chord with me! Tasha fought her internal battle and won. Hot , steamy bits always make me happy! Loved this book!!!
I liked it but their relationship developed too fast. Tasha was a strong woman and I liked her independecy but I think some attitudes she had were uncalled for. And Scott, I liked him but he was too intense sometimes
I am tired of reading books that let the woman be stupid and not go for what they want. Come on we all know good sex is good for you but all this no good decision making and doubting yourself is crap
This was a little boring at first but it picks up. There are a bunch of things that never get answered an some confrontations should have happened that didnt. Still a good book tho.
This isn't the kind of book I like. I don't think I can give a fair review. The writing style is good. A good sense of personalities of the characters.
Single mom/sexy boss trope is one of my favorites! This book was fabulous. It was sweet, dramatic and steamy.
Tasha has a new baby and a new job. She’s getting her life back together after leaving her abusive ex. But her new boss is hot and he’s letting her know he’s open for more. The consent in this book was so well done, boss/secretary can be cringey, but this was so sweet. I can’t wait to read more from this author!
Decent read, typical boss-employee story, nothing made the story special. Tasha was kinda all over the place with her feelings. Scott was probably the stronger character of the two. There was a few twists that made it an om read
