BE ADVISED: THIS BOOK IS FOR A MATURE AUDIENCE AND CONTAINS GRAPHIC SEX AND VIOLENCE.

Michael’s only in Panama for his buddy’s bachelor party vacation. When he meets Isabelle, he thinks he’s found the perfect woman for a quick whirlwind romance, but this Latin American paradise isn't all palm trees and mojitos. Evil lives here too, and it wants nothing more than to strip the flesh from foreigners’ bones.

Carver Pike takes ordinary circumstances, cinches them tight with razor wire, and then saws back and forth. Gasp for air, holler for help, and pray for an end to the madness.

The first book in the Diablo Snuff series. The one that kicks it all off and gives the first inside glimpse on who or more like what Diablo Snuff really is. It tells you each book except the last one can be a stand-alone book, but for me, I should have started here. Especially since my first view was Slaughterbox, which really didn't go into what is going on. Excellent read. I am loving this series.

A strong final quarter in this book saved it from a two star review.

This is the first DIABLO SNUFF novel and, having read SLAUGHTER BOX a few weeks ago, I wanted to read this series from the start.
However, I should also mention Carver Pike wrote the first one with C.C. Genovese, who is very much the erotic writer, judging by the author’s other books.

AMENDMENT: After posting this review yesterday, it was pointed out to me- thanks Rayne - that both authors I mentioned was actually one person writing under different names...making me look like an ignorant dumb-ass. I slept on it and decided to keep my review the same - I can take being the butt end of a joke. I am a firm believer in "Fuck them if they can't take a joke."
With that said, I also want to state that I like this author's sadistic side, and not the horny one.

While A FOREIGN EVIL was very much inspired by something like HOSTEL (if Hugh Hefner wrote the script), the erotic element was just too much for my personal taste.

I will try to explain:

(Forgive the generalizations)

I am a man. I try to be a good man, but my brain still functions like any other heterosexual male on the planet.
As we all know, men are visually stimulated – it is important for the survival of the species...if men only had sex with the women they loved, the population would take a huge dip, so mother nature took matters into her own hands and made us easy. (Please don’t confuse this with justifying adultery or cheating in any way – I’m trying to make the point that we can’t help being attracted to some people.)

Women are wired differently. They want to be turned on and seduced, they are in it for the long game. They want the foreplay and the gradual arousal – sorry ladies, for all of you who had long, meaningful one night stands and complained about it in the morning...here’s the secret:
The players are the ones who are the best at this ‘game.’

For any women who want to judge me for those comments (which are facts), i just want to say one thing:
Multiple-orgasms...we don’t get them.

Moving on.

In my younger days, I met this beautiful girl at work, and we got along well, but I had absolutely no idea if she liked me THAT way. And, yes, for those who don’t know, my luck with the ladies was next to non-existant back then because I had no confidence.
No, don’t feel bad for me, I learned a few skills and married up.

Where was I? Oh yes, the girl.
Well, since I was not too bad when it came to writing (meaning I was grammatically correct most of the time – another skill I lose when I’m tired), I decided to write an erotic piece to give to her.
For more than a day, I slaved over the two pages to get it the best I can, and then I ended it with:
“The rest is like THE MATRIX – I can’t tell you, I have to show you. If you pick the blue pill, you will go on with your life like nothing ever happened. But if you pick the red pill, your life will never be the same again.”
I even drew the two pills at the bottom of the page.

Needless to say, she thought it was really funny, but never chose a pill because she didn’t take it seriously. When I asked her opinion of the writing, her answer was:
“Just when it was getting interesting, the story was over. It should have been longer*...”

I survived that trauma, don’t worry, but my ego still takes a little knock when I think about it.

My point?
Well, if I think a story is erotic with only two pages, about thirty pages of foreplay is JUST TOO FUCKING MUCH!

I’m glad I pushed through, the end was worth it, but the experience was less than satisfactory for me.

I’m not sure if I want to read more collaborations by Pike/Genovese, but I can see an improvement in writing, so I will give Mr. Pike another go in the future.

* Ps: Isn’t ‘It should have been longer...’ some kind of female logo?

Michael is visiting Panama as part of a bachelor party. Separated from his group, he meets a beautiful seductress who takes him on a wild and sensual journey. Finding himself trapped in a building where horrific things are happening and being filmed, Michael attempts to flee for his life and his soul. Sexual pleasures are violent and graphic in this story, and punishment is extreme. This is only the first part of the Diablo Snuff series, and I look forward to reading the following books with gritted teeth.

A Foreign Evil by Carver Pike is an erotic, depraved tour de force and I loved it! This was the first time I’d read anything by Carver but it definitely won’t be the last. He hooks you right from the opening paragraph, basically telling you upfront what’s to come but then slowly and subtly shifts gears until he lulls you into a false sense of security.

The story takes an erotic turn and just as you let your guard down, a sense of foreboding dread starts to build until you’re drop kicked into a world of madness you won’t soon forget.

This is one brutal sex romp through some underworld in Panama that keeps the excitement coming every step of the way. There are tons of sex and death. What else could someone want out of a story?

This was my first book from Carver Pike and will not be my last. I went into this thinking it was going to be like a Panamanian Hostel type book. Yup, I was wrong. Carver creates a situation that screams "get out" yet michael doesn't, he sticks around. The way Carver is able to make this bad idea seem like a good one is well done. It comes down to good character development and plot. This is a must read for lovers of extreme horror. Great read.

‘Yes, this fun little offering Presses all the right Buttons!’

A dark, sinister demonic little tale that quite wonderfully leads the reader just on and on and on...all the way through to that big black evil unknown.

Whilst in Panama on a drinking trip with buddies, Michael meets a beautiful, but mysterious, latino lady who appears to be the girl of his dreams. Finding each other so uncontrollably attractive they decide to spend the night together in a ‘Press Button’ hotel found in a rundown part of the city - and what an ultra hot unusual hostelry this just proves to be! (Certainly a very different nighttime establishment, but just utterly brilliant - loved it.)
And, after this brief and hopefully fulfilling sexual encounter, then what precisely may lay in store next for these two beautiful and extremely amorous young lovers? Time will tell.

A fantastic, cleverly worked love story which is packed through with violence, sex, the dark arts and other unspeakable delights. As for other attractions such as a spot of late night tv, well, there’s always the Diablo Snuff channel on hand to amuse!

Yes, I truly loved the whole hedonistic trip into this world of the dangerously salacious unknown. Neat beginning, fabulous middle and the ending, whilst not quite providing me with the ultimate unspeakable devilish experience that I craved and expected, was still hideously, monstrously good.

Oh well, moving onto the Grindhouse....

A very highly rated piece of pure horroticism - go simply enjoy!

Rating: 4.5 ‘red and black’ giant-sized stars.

Well, I'm very late to the train for Carver Pike, and this is only the second book I've read of his despite having been a fan of his for a while. To those of you who don't know Carver is super active and accessible on Facebook, so if you want to interact with the Gentleman of Independent Horror join his fan club or look him up. He really is a friendly, nice dude and supportive of other authors. - and he's a damn good storyteller.

A Foreign Evil is a well-written page-turner. Once I got about a quarter of the way through, I just did not want to put it down. I had about 30 pages to go before I had to start work and man, work dragged (as much as I love my job) because I was desperately wanting to get back to the book. That's saying something for me and it hasn't happened in awhile. It kept me engrossed to the end.

This book was sexually explicit and had some pretty horrible scenes in it, but at its core, it was about good overcoming evil and lust. I don't want to spoil the story of this novella but in short its about an American tourist who goes to a push-button hotel in Panama with a seductive and sexy Latina. He's in for the best sex he's ever had and a night he'll never forget.

It's just gone wide and is available on all outlets, but I recommend visiting godless.com as they're celebrating this author this week. Do yourself a favour and enter Carver's lair.

I don't even know how to start this off but all I can say is fuck me this is brilliant!

I liked that this had a story to it and just wasn't all horror an gore, I liked the concept of the setting in Panama and how prostitution is a well known out in the open right next to you thing, I've found that with some erotic horror that it's usually they meet then bam sex an gore but it wasn't with this story you can really tell Michael is infatuated with Isabelle and that he really wanted her...no sorry he needed her...

When she takes him into a unknown part of Panama you can feel that he is hesitant but with your cock waiting for the beauty that Isabelle holds between her legs of course he is still gonna go along with her plans.
But I'm just glad you got to see how Michael was battling with his inner guard that something wasn't quite right, you can feel when he loses his confidence an the struggle but pussy is pussy and how Isabelle is written I wouldn't say no.

Right now when I say that the sex in this was leathal I bloody mean it!
God damn it was sexy, I was panting like a bitch on heat! It was so rough raw and unashamedly animalistic, I felt like I was missing out on the action!
Even though Michael was living this it was the best sex he ever had an I don't fucking blame him...
It was full of raw lust and was beautifully brutal, it was a perfect scene and I wouldn't mind watching it if it was real, the passion they showed was powerful and it wasn't just him trying to get off or something, he really felt something towards her and I just wanted them to ride off into the sunset but the blood started flowing I nearly had my happy ending my mouth felt like it was foaming and I'm not ashamed to say that I rubbed my thighs together... yes that's right I was a whore for this book!

One of my favourite films is
Vacancy and this book reminded of it and just like the film I was glued to it, I really couldn't put this down and I just had to find out what happened and fuck me I was shocked!!
This tale was brilliantly thought of and the twists and turns and then the different types of thing's happening (not gonna spoil it) but I loved every page and the ending oh my god nearly peep my knickers (in a good way ;) but overall I'm so glad I found this author because there was only one other male author that got me but now you Sir are a fucking legend and will always have special place in my pants bwahahaha!!

Now that I have read this back it isn't so much of a review as it is me just getting this off my chest, I just had to share my views on this awesome book.
Can't wait to read more from you :)

Whooo doggie! This book is a quick, savage tale about being a tourist, who gets... uhmmmmm... “in over his head”. Yes, thats it, “in over his head” whilst cavorting in Panama like a naughty fellow.

So, what Carver seems to have done is:

Take a large sack of fresh influence from Hostel 1 & 2...
Combine that with a smattering of the brutal games and gadgets of the SAW franchise...
And then, he liberally pours his special recipe gravy all over the concoction. The base of which is a gallon jug of Demon Semen.

Poof! He mixes it up like a crazy literary alchemist, and gives birth to the Diablo Snuff franchise.

I LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT.

Occasionally two words come together to form something delicious. Cheese and onion. Burger and chips. In this case, erotic and horror. This book had my attention gripped from the opening page to the last. I don't have too much to say other than I think I may be in love with Isabelle. Will definitely be reading the others in the series.

I read some of the Diablo Snuff books out of order, so it was great when I made my way back to the beginning. Carver’s mind twists and turns to take you, the reader, on a journey through hell. If you ever find yourself at a Push Button … JUST RUN. what a great idea for a story where something beyond evil is pulling the strings of what we think is evil. Looking forward to book 2. Great style and a great author.

This is the first book in the series Diablo Snuff.
Michael our main character is in Panama for his friends stag party when he meets the most stunning local girl, the chemistry is sizzling hot between them and as they move to a dingy bar and have one drink after another Michael is sexually propositioned and he sure as hell isn't going to turn it down.
After a long taxi ride to a more remote area Isabelle wants to take him to they arrive at the building and pay for their two hours. It seems clinical and strange to Michael like a basic set of garages at the front but he is assured this is the norm in Panama even though his conscience is making him wary as a foreign traveller and he is trying to keep his wits about him despite his rising sexual frustration.
The rooms are simple, a menu displays a vast array of sex toys and all the tv seems to play is porn.
Michael and Isabelle start having their fun, it's animalistic and rough but then the heaven turns in to hell as Michael keeps having hallucinations that his latin beauty is turning into a demon.
Michael is bleeding profusely and drained and the porn on TV is getting violently horrific and extremely brutal, they don't look like actors & actresses the fear in their voices is evident and he thinks the rooms look scarily similar to one they are in and at the bottom of the screen are the words ' Diablo Snuff'.
Michael realises then that Isabelle who was in the shower has disappeared through the cubicle and the realisation hits that these buildings are where snuff films are made, he tries to flee for his life and is very nearly killed but then finds his way out through an opening with a ladder.
At the top of the ladder he then discovers the truth about Isabelle and the horror of Diablo Snuff the cult of twenty all in bird & goat masks, they had set a trap to lure him in and test him.
He violently escapes with his body broken and sanity in question believing he's encountered real evil.
This was one action packed story I read in one sitting. The story was so unique, it was dark, graphic & twisted but sexy and erotic. One of the funny moments was when the author described the bar they went to as a dark smoky pot like the one that dad found Gizmo in, in the first Gremlins movie that really tickled me.
For fans of horror with a very erotic and thriller feel then this a must, one of the best books I have read so far this year!.

After hearing about this book on The Written In Red podcast. I instantly moved it to the top of my tbr pile. This is really well written. It takes a little while to build up, but it is necessary for this story, and when it takes off it does not let up. Really interesting premise. I didn't know what a push button was so I read up on it, and it is a perfect setting. Now I will read the rest of the series.

Bloody, Twisted, and Sexy!

Okay guys! So this is my third Carver Pike novel I have read this year. I started with his novel Grad Night (2019), moved onto his newest release under the Carver Pike pen name Scalp (2020), and both blew me right out of my socks! Okay, that was a bit of a lame phrase on my part, but both novels were superb and ridiculously amazing! I then decided I’d start my adventure into the world of Diablo Snuff, and go back to the first entry A Foreign Evil: Diablo Snuff book 1 (2015). With a sequel, two spin off Diablo Snuff novels, and a third and final entry in the works I felt that this was definitely my next Pike novel I should read! Not to mention I have heard rave reviews about the DS series! Without further rambling let me get on with my review.

A Foreign Evil starts off from the perspective of the protagonist Michael. He is on a trip to Panama City, Panama with his buddies for a bachelors party. However, we find Michael alone in a little burger joint in the casino district. As Michael sits there a noticeable sex worker is eyeing him. Then another sex worker sidles up beside the first and follows suite. Michael most definitely seems interested, but apprehensive. He just wants to eat, and then turn in. Nevertheless, his mind is quickly changed when a Latino beauty starts taking to him. He is completely enamored! She has a skin tight black dress on with a sweater covering her top. He can see she has tattoos underneath, and that is a major turn on for him. As they talk the night becomes heated, and leads him on a journey of unexpected sensual perversions, mystery, and terror! What will ultimately become of Michael after this night of evil? Will he live to tell the tale? What doom awaits him once he finally detaches the wool over his eyes?

I was completely entranced by this novel, or novella if you prefer! From beginning to end it was a roller coaster ride! It was arousing, foreboding, terrifying on MANY levels, brutal, and gruesome! I know, I know you’re thinking arousing? Yes, but it is done with poise and class! Carver weaves an erotic tale masterfully with one of horror melding them into one cohesive unit of delight and terror!

As stated above, this is my third Carver Pike book that I have picked up, and I have yet to be disappointed by this amazing independent author that my words fall short to describe! I read A Foreign Evil in a matter of hours, it was fast paced from beginning to end, and I am chomping at the bit to move onto The Grindhouse: Diablo Snuff book 2! I am floored that someone has yet to snatch Carver up for their publishing company! I feel as fans our word of mouth, reviews, and recommendations will aid in putting Pike on top, and making Carver Pike a household name with the likes of Stephen King, Clive Barker, Jack Ketchum, and Richard Laymon! I truly believe Carver’s writing is that nicely done! Ultimately Carver’s own hard work will make this come to fruition at the end of the day, and he busts his butt day in and out for his readers! Especially when he writes under several pen names! That deserves praise in and of itself! You can feel that he puts his very essence into his art! Simply put… blood, sweat, and tears are splattered all over the glorious pages!

Overall, I have to give A Foreign Evil: Diablo Snuff book 1 by Carver Pike five full stars out of five stars! I cannot find any faults! Very original, sexy, scary, and brilliant all the way around! Carver Pike has easily made his way into my top five favorite authors, and the more I read his work the more his place there is solidified! If you have not picked up any of his books, stop right now, and do it! If you aren’t into horror check out his romance and erotic suspense novels under the pen names Chris Genovese and C M Genovese respectively. Until next time.

A Foreign Evil starts off the Diablo Snuff series like a bat out of hell, introducing you to the organization and giving you just a taste of what they are all about. I love a book that leaves me with lots of questions, and this book does exactly that. The ending really makes me want to know more about Diablo Snuff and what other atrocities they are capable of committing.

Have you ever thought, damn, the killings in the Hostel movies weren’t quite wild enough, they definitely could have been stranger, gorier? Check out Carver Pike’s A Foreign Evil, part 1 of the Diablo Snuff series. Read this one quick. Definitely worth a look if you like that fast and brutal type of read. A lot of pistoning of things into other things.
