When a trans-dimensional portal opened behind my fridge I knew the day would suck.
Strange things appeared in my grubby kitchen, then Beelzebub summoned me by setting my arm alight. When a devil comes calling you have no choice but to do his bidding, especially when bound by a tattoo direct from Hell.
A bounty is given, no option to refuse. Mimi's the mark, famed owner of two magical panthers and a right handful. Still, this was my chance at freedom, so what choice did I have?
As always, it wasn't that simple. Other forces were at work, and I'd had a gutsful of being Hell's puppet. I just had to figure out a plan. One that didn't just involve tearing off my sunglasses and incinerating everything in sight with a glance.
Some call me Spencer, others call me Freaky. And I am not a Normal.
Freaky Spencer (Freaky Finders #1) by Al K. Line This is certainly an odd book and I like odd. There's strange characters, trips to hell, odd jobs, portals to other dimensions, and Freaky himself who is one weird dude! This is a very imaginative book in every way! A fun book with plenty of humor too!
Full Disclosure – I was provided a copy of the book by the author as a member of his “A-Team”, however, I have voluntarily chosen to write a review. All opinions are my own.
Freaky Spencer isn’t your average Odd One and that says a lot considering who he is. Born into the world by spectacular means (and it’s a story he loves to tell whether you care or not), Freaky is currently a bounty hunter and a darned good one, but his current “employer” really burns his butt. Equipped with a hellishly magical tattoo that summons him to the pit at a whim, Freaky has found himself in the employ of Beelzebub himself.
Or has he?
After he is charged with locating Mimi, a powerfully deadly bounty hunter in her own rite, Freaky learns that all dealings in the underworld haven’t always been on the up and up. But after Freaky and Mimi team up, they find themselves the targets of not only a vindictive lesser demon but also of the big man himself.
Al K. Line is back with a new series and an entirely new cast of characters to entertain us. After having previously read my way through the Dark Magic Enforcer and Wildcat Wizard series I was wondering if Line could think up a new protagonist that’s equally as entertaining as the previous ones. I shouldn’t have been worried as Freaky, Aunty, Boris, Hanna, Furball, Mimi and girls have definitely stepped up to fill in the void left. To say that Freaky Finders was fast-paced would really be an understatement as the term “breakneck” is probably a better fit. The things that this crew goes through in the short span of time this book covers is truly enough to make anyone’s head spin. For me, this was a really strong start to what promises to be another entertaining series. I am looking forward to what other adventures this oddly freaky Scooby-Doo reminiscent crew gets into in the upcoming installments.
The opener of the Freaky saga is exactly what we've come to expect from Al. A flawed protagonist with more power than he's really aware of, a colorful entourage of misfits and frenemies, and a good heart is taking us down unpredictable paths through myth and chaos. Our hero's going to be in it up to his hip pockets, without a doubt! Thanks, Al, for a fresh start, not to mention the flawless command of the language. John Rayburn
Very easy to read and different too!!! With the virus outbreak needed something to entertain me and not get me down !!This book was a great distraction
I'm not sure how else to review Freaky Spencer. Yep, that's both the book's title and the main character's birth name. Freaky. His mother said it was because when he was born he came out sideways. Freaky runs a semi magical boarding house where he lives with other freaks, you know, like a maybe angel that might be fallen, an over aged hippy mama that likes to dance topless in the street to connect her to the spirit world, a black blob of fuzz with no discernable head that came from the vortex behind the fridge, and Boris, the pudgy, monosyllabic, always up for a pork roll guy.
This story takes us along let lines, through the traps in reality to hell. Freaky owes Beelzebub for a favor. Beelzebub is in charge of hell while Satan is on vacation but Beelzebub has a secret. Did you know Satan vacations in a desert wearing a Speedo? There is also a giant that eats souls, a trip to Fairy land, and various freaky adventures. But, my descriptions of things does not compare to the story. Read it, you'll see.
This book had me laughing out loud at every turn. Every character was distinct and hilarious, even the little fur lump thing. I just finished the first book and am about to dive into book 2 cuz I just can't wait to see what happens next!
