Confessions of Georgia Nicolson #10

Are These My Basoomas I See Before Me?

Rate this book
A bit early to get swoony knickers but I have got them on. For Georgia, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Just when she thought she was the official one-and-only girlfriend of Masimo, he's walked off into the night with the full hump, leaving Georgia all aloney on her owney—again. All because Dave the Laugh tried to do fisticuffs at dawn with him! Two boys fighting over Georgia? It's almost as romantic as Romeo and Juliet . . . though perhaps a touch less tragic. It's time for Georgia to get to the bottom (oo-er) of this Dave the Laugh spontaneous puckering business once and for all. It's like they always If you snog a mate in the forest of red bottomosity and no one is around to see it, is he still a mate? Or is he something more?

SUCH a great conclusion to a hilarious series! I think it ended just a tad too abruptly, but it was the funniest, most heartwarming, and just all around the best of the series. DAVE THE LAUGH.

Sad this is over. Sad Louise Rennison is gone. I still have the Withering Tights to read, but that's not the same:(

Gor blimey, Mum and her mates talk WUBBISH. I am glad that me and my mates are not so superficial. They are just talking about men and clothes and men.

I can just dollydaydream about my boyfriend and what I will wear when I next see him.

And this is the nub and gist of all these books. Fab.

I am not exactly sure what it says about me that I love these books so much. In fact, I would actually be embarrassed to try to convince many of my reading friends to even give them a go. What would I say - these are books about a 15-year English old girl who does a lot of stupid stuff, makes fun of her teachers and parents, and making out with fit boys is her main goal in life? Plus, some jokes are REALLY offensive. First Georgia Nicholson book received a Printz Honor in 2001, but it would have never gotten even the slightest acknowledgement now due to its jokes. And yet, Louise Rennison humor really works for me. Rereading Georgia's adventures in love have been a bright highlight during these bleak days (politics-wise).

Also, RIP Louise. Such a tragedy. I am still mourning:(

Original review
It is with deep sadnosity I am writing this review. I am sad not because the book has disappointed me. Not at all, "Are These My Basoomas I See Before Me?" is deffo up to Rennison's usual standards of hilariosity. But knowing that this is the last book gives me an actual nervy b. But back to the review for now.

Masimo is having a megahump with Gee after seeing her twisting with Dave the Laugh (Georgia's Hornmeister and an occasional snog partner) at the end of the previous book. Gee is determined to get the Luuurve God back. She employs all weapons available to her - layers of lippy and mascara, newly acquired maturosity, and of course, the Hormeister's useful advice and assistance. Will Georgia get back her Italian Stallion? Will she end up all aloney on her owney? Or maybe Dave the Tart will finally become something more than a matey type mate? You'll just have to read and find out for yourself.

Once again, the book is a great larf. Rennison's comic genius is undeniable. The ending is satisfying and logical (we can't really expect any kind of maturosity from 15-year old Georgia, and this is le fact). I wish it weren't this abrupt and I wish I got to see some more of the Hormeister, but I'll just have to live with it I guess.

I can't really believe the series is over. Oh, how I am going to miss the Ace gang, Angus and Gordy, vati and mutti, the lurve gods, and even Jas's unruly fringe and Monica's humongous nungas...

The Re-Read is over, and I don’t think I will ever get over Dave saying that Georgia is the most beautiful person… MY HEART! So so so much fun, already looking forward to the next re-read! 😊

So I've come to the end of the series from my teenage years.
I can honestly say I love this series, and it never fails to cheer me up!
I'm going to miss The Ace Crew, Dave the Laugh/Tart/Biscuit, Sven and Tom!

I'm away laughing on a fast camel!

Ah, there's nothing like a bit of Georgia Nicholson silliness to cheer me up. I love that Louise Rennison's books are still funny the third time you read them, I could actually just sit here quoting awesomely hilarious lines to you instead of writing a review - I thought about it.

What should I say? These books never fail to make me laugh (sometimes out loud) and I'm only sad that this book is the end of the road for our Ace Gang, sex gods, luurve gods and (most importantly) our Hornmeister. Yes, I am in love with Dave the Laugh. I remember back when there was no other but Robbie (aka the sex god) and all I could think was "noooooo!" when Georgia got closer to Dave; but now there's just no other sensible choice, sex gods and Italian luurve gods step aside.

I will even miss Wet Lindsay, Slim and Elvis. Not to mention Jas and her ginormous knickers. This is one series I know I will be able to read again and again.

HORRRRNNNN!!!

I struggle a bit with how to rate this one since (5 stars), I enjoyed every blessed moment of it. But (3-4 stars), as far as series FINALES go, it was over a bit too soon. I mean, you'd have to be extraordinarily dim to have not figured this ending out somewhere around book five, but still. I wanted to revel in the conclusion a bit more before I turned the page and found myself at the glossary. And, to be honest, I wanted something as gripping as Angus nearly dying in the last installment, to happen here as well. Though nearly having to snog Wet Lindsey is about on par with the death of a loved one, I s'pose...

All that said, it was hi-larious and satisfying to see Georgia finally come to here senses. Ish. Will read and reread the entire series for ages to come!

The last in the series and I feel a bit sad my time with Georgia Nicholson is over.

A great 10 books, though it's for teenagers I enjoyed them.

The ending was very predictable but hey, I'm OK with that.

Good work Louise Rennison!

Five stars.

I am full of sadnosity that this series has ended but…I lurved the ending! True to form, Georgia’s mad sham of a life is filled with hilariosity, ridiculousness, beards, lippy, half Scottish Wildcat fiasco’s and tarts and cakes galore. I’m so glad that Gee and Dave the Laugh finally got together, it was a long time coming, but they did the Bird of Avon proud. This book made me laugh, squee, sigh and then laugh again. Oh how I will miss these characters now that the series is over.

Also, I would like to make a special shout out to my friend T for recommending this series to me, it has become one of my all time favorites. You are truly a Wise Woman of the Forest minus the crap fringe and oversized knickers.

There's just not enough Georgia/Dave. Not enough. NOT ENOUGH.

Ideally, Georgia and Masimo should have broken up in the last book and this book should have been all about Georgia and Dave getting their shit together.

I have way more feelings about this series that in strictly reasonable.

I'm glad that I've finally finished this series, and in a way I'm pleased that Georgia and Dave got together, but I do sort of feel like I wasted some time with these books. When I started reading them at the age of 12 I really enjoyed them, and they do still have some amusing moments in them, but the last three books have just been repetitive, OTT, immature ramblings! Maybe it's that I'm too old for these books now, but thinking about it, I never behaved like Georgia and her friends when I was 15 and that's probably why I find it hard to sympathise with her. Originally, she was a fun, amusing character but now she rather annoys me, as do her friends - in fact, about 90% of the stuff in this book made me roll my eyes. Although there were a few moments that made me giggle, I was seriously unimpressed and am quite glad that this series has finally come to an end. 4/10

I'm glad this is the last book in the series. It's not that I don't love Georgia Nicholson, it's that this book felt a little stale. The jokes had happened one too many times, the situations and the rack of lurve, just were overplayed. But Louise Rennison gave us a good ending, the one many (including me)have been hoping for, and Georgia did mature enough to realize maybe she's still to young to be mature. Hard to believe but this series has been around for ten years, while in book only two years have passed, most of that in the first book! I do wonder though if she's thought of re-launching the series with Georgia being older in the future...Sue Townsend successfully did this with Adrian Mole, and if Georgia were older it might be very interesting indeed! Watch your back Bridget Jones!

I also liked the use of a Blackadder joke (might be Thin Blue Line, I know it's Rowan Atkinson ok!): You wouldn't get it if it came in a large bag marked IT!

Full Review:
In the tenth and final installment of Louise Rennison's Georgia Nicholson series, Are These My Basoomas I See Before Me? Georgia is once again on the rack of luurve. I have always been a big supporter of these books with it's witty protagonist and inventive use of the English language, but, I am also glad to say the series has come it's end (in it's current incarnation). This last installment seemed a little stale. Georgia is once again trying to find where she stands with a Luurve God and with Dave the Laugh. But haven't we been here before? The jokes have been used one too many times and the situations are a little frayed around the edges. While we have been spending ten years reading the exploits of Georgie only two years have passed in her world. The lack of time is occasionally frustrating, because the first and second book were the only two with a distinct time lapse, the rest have been under a month! So while it seems Georgie has been on the rack for awhile, it's actually early days for her yet. But I did enjoy the fact that she seems to be gaining some maturiosity. She comes to realize that with a boyfriend like Masimo she doesn't have that much in common other than the snogging, so what do you do with a boyfriend like that? Well how about upgrade to a guy who is not only cute but funny, who you aren't nervous around and who you don't pretend to be someone you're not around and who likes you and thinks you're beautiful? Maybe Dave? We also get to see another hilarious Billy Shakespeare adaptation, this time Rom and Jul, with Georgia playing Merc-Lurk-io. Jas also becomes less of a spaz and tries to be a little less clingy when it comes to Tom. Also was there this much German in earlier books?

The one thought I have is, what would happen to Georgia later in life? While the current teen aspect has run its course what would happen if Louise Rennison decided to relaunch the series later in Georgia's life. This isn't a far fetched idea either. Adrian Mole by Sue Townsend was a huge success in the 80s and later she decided to continue his tale later in his life. He started out as 13 3/4s in 1983 but by 2004 he was 34. I personally think this would work for Georgia, plus she could give Bridget Jones a run for her money, especially seeing as they are making yet another film (why I ask, why!?! The second was awful and in my mind hurt the perfection of the original).

As a final note, I loved the Rowan Atkinson quote (I think it's from Blackadder, but I was also watching The Thin Blue Line recently, so one of those): "You wouldn't get it if it came in a large bag marked IT!"

So,Georgia Nicolson concludes her story.Epic read of the century for me,hilariousity-packed and so on.
First of all, feel free to call me utterly bonkers because I felt like crying when I finished.Maybe it was the boyfriend thing, but a major reason was merely that it ended. It feels like Georgia's story was my story or something.Or that she was a very close friend. In any case,I must be loony after all.Thing is,I was so absorbed in the story, and laughed my arse off at some parts of hilariosity and felt sad at the sadiosity parts.
And the part where Jas tells Georgia 'I think we need our pals. And we need to grow up a bit together. Like a little family'.I was like 'Aww so true!':')
Secondly,Louise Rennison, you are the awesomest author ever.Tres Tres Frais.
Third,I learnt a few things from Georgia's story.
1. That British people are impressionnant.eg:Uncle Eddie,Mutti,Vati,Grandvati,Mr. Next Door,Slim etc.:P

Georgia,the frais-est ever.
2. My Mutti and Vati are not the only mad ones.Everyone's are more or less the same and can be vair helpful at times and vair embarrassing as well. And we all love them.

3.Best friends can be huge airheads and fringe-obsessed,or boyfriend-obsessed and so on.The best solution is to push her into a nearby ditch. She might ignorez-vous you for a few days but offer her a midget gem and it'll be ok.For Ellen-like friends, simply smack them when they say 'Um,so did he,uh,say..that..or,er,something'

4.Do not pucker up for everyone.

5.Laugh through every problem, you have your awesome friends with you. It'll all be alright in the end.

6.Do not let Libby-like sisters i.e wild sisters, sleep with you at night or else side-effects include, strong hatred towards Moonface and Heidi.

7.Red bottomosity has tres tragique consequences.

8. Do not leave Sex God.:(

9.Diss Lindsey-like people on a regular basis and ignorez them.

10. Be yourself i.e. stupid, fun, blabby and so on.

11.Louise Rennison is a legend.So is Georgia.

12.Dave,Robbie,Masimo are awesome.I might form a fanclub of theirs (like the Titches do of Dave),and call it DRM or somethin.Or DRUM.The 'U' being a random German word.

13.Do not grow up too fast.Consequences are Red bottomosity.

14.Do not hesitate to form new words. It adds to your vocab. Bottomosity,Hamburger-a-gogo and so on.

15.One of your Rosie-like friends should have a Sven-like boyfriend,i.e. a Viking. So that you can say that along with other bonkerosity, you have been part of a Viking wedding.

16.Whenever you feel low do the conga, the Viking wedding Dance, yelling HOOORRNNN!!!Or sing 'The hills are alive with the sound of PANTS! or Idlepants' and brighten your day like two bright things.

17.Do not get attatched to mad and wild cats who think cars are mice on wheels and who eat everything they see.Clothes, lipgloss, soap etc.

In conclusion,Georgia,you will be missed.

AAAAAND THIS STORY COMES TO AN END

This is quite possibly the longest I've ever taken to finish a book series and I'm emotional and happy and I'm feeling kind of bittersweet, but AAAHHH!!!

Georgia Nicholson, you absolute, absolutely lunatic! I am going to miss you so much! And I'm going to miss Libby even more!

I kind of wish the ending could, you know, get dragged for a bit. Another book, maybe? (;~;) But no, it was perfect.

Note: This is a review for the series as a whole

MY THOUGHTS
When I first picked up this series it was honestly on a whim. The books were $0.33 per book so I picked up a bunch. I wasn't sure if they were really the books for me. Even after reading the first book I wasn't sure if the series was for me, but I decided to keep going and I am glad for that.

I've had trouble before with books that try to show the teenage girl experience or a teenage girl diary and instead they felt like whiney eleven-year-olds. This series was not the case. This is such a fun series. I love Georgia's humor and how she goes about life. It took me a bit to warm up to her way of talking/writing, but I grew to love it. She has such an interesting personality and I found myself using some of her language in my thoughts after binge-reading this series. She makes a lot of mistakes in this series, some pretty embarrassing, but in all of her outrageousness, she felt like a real teenage girl.

This series also had such an interesting cast of characters. There's Georgia's friends, the boys, her outrageous family, and her neighbors. I just loved seeing how all of the characters interacted with one another and how comfortable Georgia was with her friends. I also always looked forward to hearing about Libby's or Angus' shenanigans.

Of course, Georgia did annoy me at times, namely in the romance department. There a few different guys Georgia is interested in during the course of the series. Early on in the series, I figured out who I wanted Georgia to end up with and Georgia's denial of her interest in him frustrated me. This did make me binge-read the series, though. The ending of this series did make me desire more because it ended just as it got to where I wanted it to be, but... it was still a great end to the series.

IN CONCLUSION
Overall, I really enjoyed reading this series. It was so much fun and it made me laugh on more than one occasion. When I picked up the first book I wasn't sure what to expect and I honestly just wanted to read a book where characters didn't die and everyone's lives were terrible. This book series succeeded in giving me feel-good reads and I can see myself picking up this series again when I need a feel-good book to read.

These books have entertained me for a good many years, and now we have finally come to the last one.
Georgia speaks in a refreshingly teenage-like tone, and instead of trying to make it more polite or more suitable for adults, Rennison has played up the angst ridden 'oh no my hair is pouffy it's the end of the world' narrative. The main character Georgia, is a great person and one i would have loved to have known back in school.
She seems to always be having a good time, and for many parts of the book i actually laughed out loud, or groaned in sympathy when Georgia let her brain doze off and did something unbelievably stupid yet understandable.

Rennison also doesn't try to make some supernatural theme or moral, she writes a humourous, realistic book that brings back all the good memories of my school days and leaves me thinking about it for a long while after.

I am sad that this is goodbye for me and Georgia, but for any Georgia Nicholson fan out there don't worry, you won't be disappointed.

"Dad started yelling uncontrollably. I wonder if he's having a male menopause? If he starts growing breasts, I will definitely be running away with the circus. Although to be fair, he would have a better chance of getting job with them."

So.
Georgia Nicholson is funny.
She was when I was fourteen and she still is now that I'm twenty-four.
Unfortunately, the story was bland and kept dragging on way too long.
(Maybe it did in the previous 9 books too, just that I was too young to be bothered by that?)

And my heart belongs to Robbie.
I know this was the way everything is supposed to end, but I'm still mad at Louise Rennison.

1. 15/12/2014 I loved this series so damn much. I could really relate to Georgia throughout the books; perhaps it was because we were of the same age and both had a crazy cat. The members of the Ace Gang were great and... I just can't believe it's over. I want more.
2. 1/22/2016 Second time rereading this series, at 16. I loved it just as much, maybe even a bit more. These characters will always hold a special place in my heart. Especially you, Dave the Laugh.

And that, my dear pals, brings us to the end of Confessions of Georgia Nicolson. I'm sad, I'm happy, I want my own Dave the Laugh (minus his General Horn).

Honestly, I'll quite miss the Ace Gang, even if, sometimes, they are not so full of maturosity. They are only 15, though, so what do you expect?

Actually, I quite enjoyed watching Georgia grow up. She now opens up to her mom, found that she does love her vati, deep down, deep deep down, and she really does love ol' Swotty Knickers Jas, too. I'm glad that one of the last scenes was them reaffirming their friendship. They truly are bezzies, you know.

However, I so wanted more from Georgia and Dave!!! It happened so fast! We knew that they had feelings for each other since the first (second?) book, but it seemed that, once Masimo said he was leaving, they were boyfriend and girlfriend. Georgia being the boyfriend and Dave being the girlfriend. I wanted thirty more pages about their relationship! How did Georgia's parents feel? What did the Ace Gang say? How did Rosie and her beard respond?!

Unfortunately, we will truly never know, chums, because Louise Rennison has passed on.. Rest in peace, Louise. Seriously.

The last instalment of Georgia Nicolson’s dairies is just as brilliant as the rest of them. I absolutely loved it!

‘Are these my basoomas I see before me?’ was so, so funny. I’d forgotten about Louise Rennison’s ability to make you laugh out loud. She writes the most absurd situations and has her characters have the strangest conversations that you’d burst if you didn’t at least giggle at. She is a comedy genius.

The characters each have distinctive personalities and compliment each other perfectly. I love the Ace Gang. I’d do anything to be a part of that group! But Libby is my favourite character. She is really cute, but a complete and utter nutcase; just like her sister actually! The whole of the Swiss Family Mad, as Georgia calls them, are fabulous creations that I’m very glad that I don’t have to live with.

Although I enjoyed ‘Are these my basoomas I see before me?’, I’m really sad that this fabulous series is over. It’s sad to one of my favourite series’ ending, even though it ended how I wanted it to end. I think that the ending has been left open and that Louise Rennison could pick up Georgia’s story again at any time. I really hope she does!

This is a series that everybody should read, and re-read. It’s brilliant! And, by the way, the cover is actaully gold; it looks so pretty on my shelf!

Georgia's slightly-bitchy-but-with-good-intentions voice rings true again with the last installment in her ten book series. It was a good run, and I loved every single one of them, although of course I always had my choices as to who she should end up with...and...
OH MY GIDDYGODSPAJAMAS SHE ENDED UP WITH THE HORNMEISTER!!! BEST.ENDING.EVER.
I was so happy she ended up with Dave, because I really disliked Masimo, I don't care how hot he was supposed to be. I found his not being able to speak English annoying and he was too mature compared to the cheeky Dave the Biscuit. Masimo was so full on snogging-wise, and it was sweet that he liked Georgia and invited her to tour with the Stiff Dylans and all, but he was never a Dave the Laugh or even a Robbie.
Georgia's family continues to make me laugh out loud several times over, her friends remain crazy, and the dramatics of the cake shop of luurve and the schools' production of Romeo and Juliet make this book all the more fabby, marvy, gorgey, and so on. I strongly recommend reading this book, but not until you have read the other nine before it at least twice each, because this is a fantastic, snogging-fest series filled with hilariosity at every corner, and should be owned by every teenager in the world who likes boys, make up, crazy cats or just laughing in general. Thankyou sincerely, Louise Rennison.

After being so busy this past week with babysitting my little brother, starting my new job, and being trapped inside a frozen tundra, I have finally finished Are These My Basoomas I See Before Me?. And I must say, I am very full of sadnosity that its all over. I am really going to miss Georgia, her crazy mates, her even crazier family, and her love life that quite frankly, I wish I had when I was 15. Minus the being on the rack of it all the time. But the mates all dying for her affections, that's what I wanted when I was 15.

This review probably isn't going to be as extensive as the other reviews I've made for this book, because I am full of sadnosity that it is all over, and also full of gladnosity that FINALLY FINALLY Georgia and Dave the Laugh got together. Or should I say, Georgia got her act together. I have been waiting since On The Bright Side, I'm Now The Girlfriend of a Sex God for those two to shape it up and get together for realsies, and I'm glad that Lousie Rennison ended the book that way.

Can I just say that I could not stand Masimo? He was just way too lovey dovey in my opinion. But then again, all Italians are normally like that in the love department (minus the fake Jersey Shore Italians), so I can dig that. But guys being all lovey dovey in public places like that just isn't my bag. Or apparently Georgia's considering she got so self-conscious when it seemed to be happening, which was a lot. I did like Robbie, however. Dave (of course), has always been my favorite. I've always fallen in love with funny guys faster than you could say 'I'm away laughing on a fast camel!'. Oy, why am I getting all personal? BACK TO THE BOOK, BACK TO THE BOOK!

I feel like Rosie was my favorite ace gang member. She resembles how I was when I was 15. Just full-on weird. I love the rest of the ace gang too, I feel like I'm losing friends. All in all, this book was really a brillopads why to end the series. I enjoyed it immensely.
