There are a few things that Cassandra Jones knows when it comes to stay away from the teeth, and decapitation will solve the problem every time. Almost. Unless the problem is a super hot, centuries old vampire named Richard York who keeps on loving her even when she's fallen in love with another man who accidentally turns himself into a literal monster. Then, decapitation doesn't work so well. For either of them. Luckily, Cass has other problems to deal with, like figuring out how to stay alive when all kinds of vampires—both Lost and Turned—want to kill her before she can find the key that will eliminate them forever. No matter how many vampires she dusts, they keep on coming, but with her newly-heightened powers as the Seer, Cass knows just where to aim her katana for maximum vampire destruction. Until she sees that she needs the help of the one vampire she's least ready to face. And whether she's ready or not, Richard is only too willing to comply. When it comes to vampires, there's one thing Cassandra Jones wishes she who to kill, who to love, and who to save.
I've read all kinds of books in my life. Big Important Books. Falling-apart-from-use books. Comic books. Books with no pictures that I wish had been comic books. Cookbooks. Pulp fiction. Histories. Biographies. You get the idea.
And one day I just reached a point where I wanted to write the kinds of stories I really enjoy reading—stories with humor, action, and all kinds of supernatural shenanigans. And a kick ass heroine who's a real person, with the messy and meaningful challenges real people face in life.
When I'm not writing, I'm outside working in the garden, playing Pokemon Go with my kids, or trying to convince our crazy dog that she really does like baths. Hope your day is full of awesome—thanks for stopping by!
This is a great, unusually creative paranormal series. I love the main character, Cass, who's somehow the perfect heroine despite her imperfections. I was also intrigued by the two, very different, male leads. The author, Laura Legend, somehow manages to make us fall a little in love with them both. Who will Cass choose?
I have literally just finished Ageless the 6th book in Laura Legend’s Visions of Vampires series. It feels like forever since the first book when Cass steps out of her coffee shop job and discovers vampires are a real thing. I probably should wait to write this review because right now I’m feeling a bit annoyed and a bit betrayed. First unlike the first five books in the series which I’m pretty certain were free for members of Kindle Unlimited I had to pay for this one. Not a lot, but who likes it when you have to pay for something you used to get for free? The fact that I had to pay for it re-enforced my preconceived idea that this was the final book in the series. That Cass would finally save her mother and the rest of the Lost, that she would save Zach from being trapped within the body of a monster, bring the scheming Maya to heel and decide between Zach and Richard whom her forever love would be. But none of that happened because this isn’t the last book in the series. What did happen was Maya’s plot against Richard was executed. Richard has now been ousted as head of his own company and he and Cass are on the run from Maya’s Amazon goon squad. Oh, and Maya is preparing to unleash a virus that will kill all of the Lost. Cass became even more unsure of whether her feelings for Richard were platonic or romantic. Cass joined forces with Amare and managed to redeem one of the Lost who hadn’t quite gone feral. But I’ve yet to figure out how that singular transformation process can be replicated on a large scale to save all the Lost Vampires? All in all I thought this was a slightly better book than the last one because Cass actually returns to her kick ass roots in this one. There’s more action as she continues to be a cross between Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Indiana Jones. She even injects some humor while she’s turning lost vampires into dust. So, I now wonder will there be only one more book or will Laura Legend somehow manage to stretch this series out even further and at some point will I stop caring? My big question now is who survives at the end? Will either Richard or Zach die heroically so that Cass doesn’t have to again chose between them? Will her mother Rose die because she’s too far gone to redeem or in some attempt to save Cass? Will Maya die? If not what becomes of her for her constant scheming and string pulling? Hell I have to wonder if the only way Cass finally finds true peace is if she dies at the end? It wouldn’t be the first story where the hero pays the ultimate sacrifice in the final chapter. Yeah damn it, I probably drop the $4 or $5 books just to see how this all plays out in the end.
Now that Cass’s seer powers are getting under control, she’s trying to put together the pieces of a possible cure for the Lost, but somethings missing. She ends up working with unexpected ‘friends’ to find it.
I felt very melancholy and sad for Cass toward the end. She was doing everything for everybody else, but had nothing for herself. I love Richard’s safehouse and Ana is cool. But the poor Wing Chun dummy. It just wanted to be her friend.
Footnote: 1) It was frustrating that I couldn’t find any mention of this book on Goodreads for the series.
Fave scenes: Cass getting across the library, splinters in her hair, Cass escaping the casino and the unbalanced truck.
I was never a fan of sitting around reading. This book like the others had me sitting for hours without realizing it. My attention was held for the taking. Very good reading
I love this series. Lauren Legend is an amazing story teller. I felt Cassandra's pain, her grief, her confusion, her love, her faith, and her ability to push through and own her fears. I found the missed edits annoying but it didn't take away from this very different take on vampires and the depth of the characters. I look forward to book 7!
