My grandson liked it. Apparently, was faithful to the Netflix series of the same name.

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous The Deluxe Junior Novelization Vol.1 by Steve Behling, is a Novelization based on the Netflix Original TV show “Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous.” – Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous The Junior Novel takes the entire first season of the smash hit Netflix Jurassic Park spin-off show and condenses it down to a short 140 pages of pretty straightforward prose.

Set 22 years after the Jurassic Park incident on Isla Nublar. A new theme park has been built on the island called Jurassic World. When six lucky teenagers are chosen to be the first to experience the parks newest addition a youth adventure camp called Camp Cretaceous. As the various teens enjoy the camp. On the other side of the island a dangerous prototype genetic hybrid dinosaur escapes its cage, and starts to wreak havoc on the island. Left stranded at their camp the six teens will have to pull together in order to survive.

There isn’t a lot of what I would call “new” in The Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous Junior Novelization Vol.1, but as it stands it might be a terrific introduction for kids of a certain age to get into the idea of reading Jurassic Park books instead of limited themselves to consuming the enduring dinosaur thriller franchise via more visual media like movies or TV. For me as an adult reader. I enjoyed plowing through a recap of season one chapter-by-chapter, episode-by-episode as the various teens from different backgrounds who really didn’t like each other, but eventually have to work together in order to survive the horrific events of the Jurassic World movie. I did learn a couple new character names and details here and there, but otherwise this story trods extremely familiar territory to anyone even casually familiar with the first season.

It is a little odd to present such a deliberately episodic narrative in this novelized format, especially with such a limited page count to play with: readers may find themselves experiencing whiplash as one adventure somewhat jarringly butts up against another as author Steve Behring faithfully adapts the often unrelated events of the first season in a straight sequence. I almost wonder if it would have benefitted the book to cut out some of the middle chapters and expand upon what we see in the more action packed episodes at the beginning and end of the season, as I did quite enjoy getting to experience what was going on inside some of the supporting characters’ heads from time to time.

Overall, As novelizations go, this is a fairly uncomplicated one, but at the same time it’s nice to have a new way to relive these stories again that doesn’t involve pressing play.

Faithful to the show!

The title is a perfect description of this book. The only thing that hurts it, is that the show gives even more descriptions than the book. Now I know it's a Junior novelization, but I would have loved a bit more description of the virtual reality game scene than what was written. Other than that it was a perfect rendition of the story giving us a bit more of each character's thoughts.

3.0 out of 5 stars.

★4,5

➕️

"Camp Cretaceious, Volume One" by Steve Behling is the novelization of Season One of the junior adventures of six youth who are the first to be brought to the newest addition to Jurassic World- A camp for youth. The first six are a diverse group of individuals. Evenly divided of boys and girls. Early teens. From the studious/video gamer, Darius, to the athletic, Yaz, and others.

What the novel has is the breakneck pace of the hit TV series of dangerous and friendly dinosaurs, laboratory madman, and other assorted characters as the six teens discover themselves and build relationships, which is the strongest part of the series. The relationships between the six evolve and change over the first season. In the films of Jurassic World this aspect is sorely lacking because of the nature of big budget action/adventure/thriller productions nowadays.

Highly recommended to read. (BTW- there is a Youtube video which shows the timelines of Camp Cretaceous and Jurassic World film overlap.)

Love this book and Netflix series so much. I can't even explain in words how much I love it. It's action and adventure-packed. It's intense but goofy. You get to meet 6 awesome campers, Darius, Brooklynn, Yasmina, Sammy, Kenji, and Ben. All with different personalities that may cause tension between them, but you can't hold grudges forever when you tare rapped on a dinosaur-filled island.

Love these junior novels but I just wish the author would convey the inner monologue of each character with some zest. It's third person sure but there are ways that the author can be 4th dimensional in a book by allowing the viewer or reader to understand what's happening and how the characters are interpreting it. Anyway, the book was fine. I still enjoyed it. And now let's watch the show.

Volume One covers the entire first season of the animated TV show. The six kids who get to try out the camp end up getting stranded among escaped dinosaurs. Lots of action, but a very basic writing style. Nice packaging, though.

This was a pretty decent middle grade book. I love dinosaurs so will read anything dinosaur related. Middle grade kids i think for sure will love it. It was a quick read and lots of action and plenty of dinos including an adorable baby dino. It even has pics of the characters and dinosaurs in it.

Evading Extinction

Survival is the key here where adventure goes beyond learning how to start a campfire or make a bracelet.

I liked it but they left out a few tiny details, I like tiny details in books that are from movies, but still this was a good book, excited to read the 2nd book.

My 9 year old and I have been reading this series. It follows the tv show pretty much to the dot. It's a good read.
