The Shivered Sky #2

In the City of Demons

Rate this book
The Shivered Sky Saga continues with Book Two, In the City of Demons

For so many of this world, the idea of an afterlife is a comforting one. You live, you die, and you are rewarded with an eternity of joy and peace. But for Indigo, life after death is a nightmare beyond comprehension. Naked, afraid, and with only snippets of memory, she comes into the afterlife to find that Heaven is in ruins. The angels are gone, hunted to the brink of extinction. Terrible monsters roam free. Demons control the sky. The great city burns.

God is gone.

Humans, the ones who are caught, are nothing more than livestock. A resistance exists, but it is weak, unorganized, and all but defeated. For the demons, they struggle to maintain order amongst themselves. An occupying force is a restless one.

Indigo and her human companions only have one choice. They must fight.

Told from the point of view of humans, angels, and demons, this is an epic, sweeping tale told in three parts.

In part two, the few surviving angels have suffered yet another terrible blow. Scattered to the wind, Indigo and her human companions desperately seek a way to survive.

This book is part two of three. This is a refresh, re-edit, and re-release of Matt Dinniman's original novel, The Shivered Sky. This author-preferred version of the story includes a glossary of terms, names, and creature types.

Matt Dinniman is the best-selling writer and artist from Gig Harbor, Washington. He is the published author of dozens of short stories and a gaggle of books. In addition, his art publications—from greeting cards to stationery kits to calendars—can be found in boutique and stationery shops around the world. Also, he strongly feels like a pretentious twat when he writes about himself in third person.

A dark, intense, and deeply atmospheric work that showcases Dinniman’s range beyond his more irreverent projects.

In the City of Demons is a serious, emotionally charged exploration of despair, resilience, and the cost of survival in a world stripped of light. The tone is somber, almost meditative at times, yet it never loses its edge or narrative drive.

Dinniman constructs a setting that feels both mythic and immediate… a place where every decision carries weight and consequence. The prose is measured and deliberate, allowing the moral and existential undertones to unfold naturally. There’s a quiet power in the way he handles suffering and redemption; nothing feels exaggerated or sensationalized.

This is Dinniman at his most mature and introspective… a story that lingers long after it ends. In the City of Demons is haunting, precise, and profoundly human in its examination of darkness, both external and within.

The Celestial War Continues.

The battle between the Angels and the Demons continues and those human souls who have made it into Heaven remain pawns and slaves to both sides of the war -- except for five humans who bear ancient tools which produce the True Light.

This book, and the series to which it belongs, fall into the genre I am calling Christian Science Fantasy. This series may be of interest to fans of the wider Fantasy genre and may interest Christian readers who don't object to their mythology being rewritten.

Wish we Heard from Indigo more

Good 2 short. I felt like the world just keeps getting larger and I enjoy that. Still feel like I know Indigo the least right now. Hopefully we learn more in her in the next book.
