A ton of information in a short, concise book. This book really lays down not only what criteria Bookbub looks for in a candidate for their featured deals, but what sells books period. You’ll walk away armed with the knowledge you need to land that deal, and a heck of a lot more on covers, blurbs, craft, productivity, and more.
I picked this book up on David Gaughran's suggestion, and I'm glad I did. A few years ago, I tried to develop a "system" similar to what Thacker describes in his book for applying for BookBub feature deals, because I completely agree with him. You have to keep emotion out of the equation. The chances are in your favor of being rejected (they can't accept everyone's books!)--but, following the system Thacker recommends--your chances of getting a deal are more likely. And he includes all the ways in which he researched and tested his theories, telling you what you might need to change if you continue getting rejections.
I'm all in, because it's taken me a long time to realize that indie publishing today isn't like it was back when I started. My books need to be seen to be purchased! While I have some amazing hard core super readers, they're not enough to be my bread and butter, even if I could publish two books a month. And while I run some ads and do promotions, what Thacker suggests is any idea I might have had--on steroids. Will I try his system? You bet. I've already started. If you're an author wanting to "crack" BookBub featured deals, then you're going to want to pick up this book!
I was able to get a BookBub Featured Deal for a free book in 2015. I had more downloads that day in more countries than I imagined possible. Since then, I’ve been unable to get another. So, this book was of interest to me. I thought I had some things figured out about what BookBub looks for, but I was wrong about some of them. Nick Thacker has figured out a system to get his books accepted every few months. He’s given me a few ideas, and I’m anxious to see if they work. At any rate, it makes sense that these steps will increase my chances. There were just a few things that needed clarification. If you’re in KDP Select, you can’t reduce the price of your book until after the re-enroll date, so it can be tricky if you get a featured deal around this date. Also, I read somewhere on BookBub’s site that you can submit a free book every week. And not mentioned is submitting internationally. You can only reduce your price in the US and UK market (if you’re in Select). Only free will make your book available in every country. Otherwise, this book is very helpful. Thanks for sharing, Nick!
There is a lot of information in this book—so much so it made my head spin. But, if you want to get featured on BookBub, Thacker can tell you how, in detail. As in any book, take what you can use and apply and leave the rest, at least for a later date. I picked up a few tips I can use, if and when I so choose. I think I might give it a try using some of what I learned.
An interest quick read on the subject of Bookbub, what it can do for you and how you go about setting up an account. I would highly recommend this for any Author looking to make their first step into the world of Bookbub
This is a wonderful book for working the bookbub submission roulette. Nick has provided quite a bit of common sense details. There’s a lot to learn here.
