I went slowly with this book purely because every page was so beneficial, that I wanted to give it proper time and effort to annotate, and reflect upon. A must read for every Muslim!

i've been going through a little bit of a rough time recently, and this book has been such a comfort to my soul 🥹 it had sm reassuring and beneficial reminders that i really needed, alhamdulillah for islam always. 100% recommend for anyone who's going through any hardship right now. i'll drop some reminders that really stuck with me below 💗

tawakkul/turning to Allah:

"I am as My servant thinks I am, I am with him when he makes mention of Me. If he makes mention of Me to himself, I make mention of him to Myself. And if he comes to Me walking, I go to him running.”

"Turn back because you are welcome. Turn back, no matter how small the steps you take seem to be. Turn back because He will always be patient with you, even if you are impatient with yourself.”

“Don’t let your definition of success, failure or self-worth be anything other than your position with Him. And if you do this, you become unbreakable, because your handhold is unbreakable. You become unconquerable because your supporter can never be conquered. And you will never become empty because your source of fulfillment is unending and never diminishes."

“O Allah, I never knew heartbreak until I disobeyed You and I never knew happiness until I obeyed You."

“Don’t assume bad of Allah, for by Allah, if you obey Him, He will make for you a source of relief and a way out, and if you are alone within your family and society, then Allah will accompany you in your loneliness. And He will strengthen your heart, and make it firm with His guidance.”

hardship:

"He's breaking you to heal you."

"He allows His servant to taste the bitterness of the break before the sweetness of the mend. He does not break His believing servant except to mend him. And He does not withhold from him except to give to him. And He does not test him, except to cure him.”

“Is Allah not enough for His servant?” [Quran 39:36]

“And your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied.” [Quran 93:5]

“It is almost a rule that the heart does not mend except through pain, and does not recover and regain its tenderness except through suffering.”

"He who has tested the servant is the Most Wise, the Most Merciful and He did not test him with the affliction to destroy, punish or overwhelm him. Rather, the affliction is merely a test of his patience, his contentment with Allah and his faith."

“He will give you something better than what was taken from you.” [Quran 8:70]

"The most beautiful thing is that He knows what you are about to tell Him and yet He still listens."

"Why do you worry? For Allah provides for the ant in the dark hole and the fishes in the depth of the oceans. Do you then think that He will forget you?”

"If Allah did not want to accept your dua, He would have not guided you to make it in the first place.”

“Never become impatient if the hardship continues for long, and never tire of supplication. You are being tested by the hardship, and your patient and supplication are acts of worship, there never despair of God’s mercy, even if it the hardship is long in duration.”

"In moments of sadness Shaytan comes and wants you to let go of Allah. Faith in Allah does not take difficulty or sadness away, but it makes us strong enough to go through them without breaking."

“So truly where there is hardship there is also ease; truly where there is hardship there is also ease.” [Quran 94:5-6]

“Do not ruin your happiness with worry, and do not ruin your mind with pessimism."

“Life is short so do not shorten it with worries, grief, and sadness.”

"Indeed, if Allah loves certain people, He will test them."

“And know that what has befallen you was not going to miss you, and that which missed you was not meant to befall you.”

friends:

“For the people that are out there that are sick or worried or stressed, I always say to you people, don’t worry. Allah will send you people that you never expected. If you really need someone, you just have to trust Allah and have tawakkul in Allah.”

“some souls are so beautiful that their presence alone reminds you of God.”

salah:

“The only safe spot on this ruined earth is the prayer mat.”

“Hold onto your salah because if you lose that, you will lose everything else.”

“Don’t wait to get old to worship Allah. If today is your last day, you are old already.”

Qur'an:

"those who came before you saw the Quran as personal letters from their Lord. So they would ponder over it by night and yearn for it by day."

“The Quran is not only a book of guidance; Allah wrote us a 632-page love letter.”

other reminders:

"Why should I be a willful party to my own destruction?'”

"Don’t compare your life to others, There is no comparison between the sun and the moon; They shine when it is their time."

“This world is like a shadow: run after it and you will never be able to catch it; turn your back against it and it has no choice but to follow you.”

“I will be patient even until my patience tires of my patience.”

“Do not belittle a small sin, for the biggest of fires can be caused by the smallest of sparks."

"When preoccupied with one’s self-development and spiritual growth, one continuously benefits from anything taking place in their life whether it is an apparent bad or good."

On the very first page of this book, it has been mentioned that 'It is dedicated to those who feel an emptiness, sadness, loss of hope or distance from Allah.' After finishing this book, I couldn't agree more.

There is so much wisdom in every advice written in this book that words will fail to appreciate it. This isn't the sort of book that you read in one or two sittings. It has to be read really slowly and, more importantly, every advice is worthy of contemplation. In sha Allah, I am going to re-read it because every advice mentioned in the book has the capability of changing the course of one's life for the better.

I really liked this. It was mostly motivational and eye-opening. The only issue I had was that not all of the sayings were provided with sources, so it wasn’t easy to trust their authenticity, and at times it felt a bit repetitive.

Nevertheless, there were many parts that were really nice and inspirational, while others made me stop and reflect on my own actions. I highly recommend it, and insha'Allah I'll reread it sometime later.🤍

“The world is worthless to its Lord, and yet it belongs to Him. So it is not right that you value it so much and it is not even yours."

“Know that if people are impressed with you, in reality they are impressed with the beauty of Allah’s covering of your sins.”

The Prophet ﷺ said, “When Allah loves a servant, He calls out to Jibril and says: ‘I love so-and-so; so love him’. Then Jibril loves him. After that he (Jibril) announces to the inhabitants of heavens that Allah loves so- and-so; so love him; and the inhabitants of the heavens (the angels) also love him and then make people on earth love him.”

A book that won't be collecting dust on my bookshelf in shaa Allah.

A few gems:

"A poet said: "It (the worldly life) is founded on distress yet you want it, free of harm and distress."."

"The nature of this world is that it's not perfect. That means we will at times go through pain, but not everyone goes through the process of healing."

Ibn al-Jawzi said: "Whoever acts pious for the sake of creation, is in effect worshipping them, although he does not realise it."

Truly filled with timeless pieces of advice. Loved it.

This book contains copyright quotes and translations from other people without giving due credit to the original translators. One example is the translation of Ibn Al Qayyim's saying found in Sayd al Khatir p.282. This is what happens when people get to write books on the subject of Islam without seeking knowledge formally from scholars and nor do they have knowledge of the Arabic knowledge. Anyone who is aware of plagiarism should not buy or endorse this book because of misconduct and dishonesty.

The quotes are nice and all but I gave it 2 stars because the author didn’t provide references or proof of some of the quotes.

Sharing quotes of such pious and righteous salaf without including proof of where it was obtained from just shows that either it was completely fabricated or a weak hadith. You can’t simply put their names beside a quote because if you spread a wrong message with their name, and it misguides someone, you’ll be held accountable on the day of judgement. EVERY authentic quote or saying has a book you can refer to.

Take these quotes with a grain of salt.

Really really loved this. Each chapter is very short and contains a piece of advice, a message or something to reflect on. It’s a book you can come back to at any point, it doesn’t need to be read chronologically and it contains some really nice pearls of wisdom. Definitely recommend.

3.8?/// It's indeed very nice just wished the author went into more detail, depth, and history of how these sayings came about. Either way, it would serve as a great, quick reference book for when you need a little more peace.

Some quotes for safekeeping:
1. "How do we observe patience? In the same manner that we fast; completely certain that the adhan of Maghrib will eventually be called."

2. "I am not worried about whether my dua will be responded to, but rather I am worried about whether I will be able to make dua or not. So if I have been guided (by Allah) to make dua, then (I know) that the response will come with it."

3. "When calamity hits, we start feeling like Allah owes us something. Allah owes us nothing. We owe Allah everything. So what if this life isn't perfect? It is not Jannah."

4. "I continued dragging my soul to Allah whilst it cried, until it finally surrendered itself and came with me to Allah smiling."

5. "Do not belittle a small sin, for the biggest of fires can be caused by the smallest of sparks."

6. "live in such a way that those who know you but do not know God will come to know God because they know you."

7. "The beauty of our religion is that the reward is dependent on the sincerity of our trying and not in the attainment of the results."

8. " Imagine that you're shopping with someone you love. No, not just someone you love. Someone you're madly in love with. Now suppose that this person picks out a gift for you in a particular color and style. How would you feel about that gift? Chances are you'll cherish it simply because of who gave it to you, simply because of who picked it out for you. There are things, events, people in your life Allah has picked out for you. Are you pleased with His choice? Do we not love the gift simply because of who picked it out?"

9. "Millions of souls in the darkness and Allah chose yours to be guided in His mercy."

10. "The more you have good expectations of your Lord and hope in Him, the more you will rely on Him and trust in Him."

11. "It is described in The Quran as the state of tadarru'- a state of humility and need for Allah. A believer will feel sad at times, but a believer should not despair."

12. "Never limit the ability of Allah to provide for you. Never limit the mercy of Allah. When you ask, ask without restriction. The key to dua is hope."

13. "Do not carry the worries of this life because that is for Allah. And do not carry the worries of sustenance because it is from Allah. And do not carry anxiety for the future because it is in the Hands of Allah. Carry one thing: pleasing Allah.

Filled with 111 reminders, this book is both beneficial and valuable with verses from Quran and verifiable sources, including sayings of the Prophets and scholars.

I've specifically tabbed 25 reminders that I hope will help me and always be reminded of whenever I'm in a dilemma. In so many ways, I was in the state of constant realisation while I was reading this book. I've learned so many things and it is mainly to be sincere, humble and firm in life. From then on, improving my faith will be smoother and easier.

There is one particular reminder that is still stuck in my mind—𝗬𝗮𝗵𝘆𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝘂'𝗮𝗱𝗵 𝗔𝗹-𝗥𝗮𝘇𝗶 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗱: "𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗛𝗶𝗺. 𝗦𝗼 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝗼 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀."

I wanted to finish this book in one sitting since it is so short but I wanted to take my time with it, savouring every reminder. This book was straightforward and simple, just what I like. I honestly want more of it!
