This is a little darker than a lot of similar stories, and the way that's doled out is what helps to keep things interesting. Alec's a good romantic interest because of the way he really tries to meet Shiori where she lives and doesn't get caught up in ideas of needing to protect her to the exclusion of letting her be her own person.

Delightful!

The dialogue is a little clunky at times, but the story is wonderful. I love the perspective that someone with lower level magic/something that inhibits their magic is still integral to the party. As someone who is chronically ill and often needs to manage my day to day activity carefully, it actually speaks to me in a really special way.

Very enjoyable read and plenty of action as well as good worldbuilding. I do wish the female characters in these stories would not be so passive all the time but I like that Shiori can stand up for herself

3.5* but I'll round up.
This was cute! An interesting world being built up, and I like the cast of characters a lot. I like the tropes it's playing with, though I found myself wishing the plot hadn't simplified them so much. Some of the tropes and how they played out in subplots was a bit too silly/simple for my taste. I like Shiori and her powers, but thought for all the talk about how weak her magic is, she's basically able to do everything without consequence. We see her get tired from using it, but her 'low magic power' never actually holds her back or anything while she's using/needing it.

I like the romance angle but thought it jumped straight into Shiori being ok/comfortable with the budding relationship with Alec. Seemed fast given her personality so far.
