And Ian’s got all sorts of problems. There’s a cursed sapphire… a bunch of helpless fairies… an evil hobgoblin… and a puppet mobster made out of wood.
Not to mention a vicious troll… although not the videogame kind.
But as long as he has his gorgeous succubus Alaria by his side – and a little help from Stig the imp – nothing is impossible.
…right?
WARNING: This is a comedy featuring hot women, sexy times, demons, warlocks, violence, and profanity. If you’re an old granny lady who’s going to clutch your pearls every time somebody drops their pants, this book is not for you.
Book 7 of the series and this has been the weakest of the series.
For a few reasons. The story is effectively split into two halves, or two goals which affected momentum for me, and didn't seem such a clear continuation. "Hritch", one of the mains characters just did not work for me, not nearly as interesting as the other bad guys encountered in the other books. It's just not as funny as the other books and is something I really missed. Finally, I did not enjoy the the whole Westek, "Chad" sections of the book.
Having said all this, there are some great moments here. Peenoccchio is a great character, the ring of diminution was a great idea, and there is lots of other good stuff to be found and to enjoy. The bottom line is - I do love this series and these slightly negative comments won't stop me looking forward to the next book.
I've enjoyed this series from the beginning. I think the other has done well in keeping this series from being repetitive. Each time we see his girlfriend pushing the boundaries and at the same time the MC seems to grow. Some of the editing could have been a little more thorough. Articles were missed as well as pronouns in various places. It seemed as if certain chapters got well scrubbed and others were glossed over in editing. Nevertheless these did not detract from the story. I am interested to see if more objects get nerfed because Ian uses them in unexpected ways.
If you haven't checked out this series before you really is a it to yourself to start from book 1 and go through the series and get familiar with Ian, Alaria, and Stig. Their adventures are engaging, thrilling, engaging, and very often funny as hell. If you like the litRPG genre than you need to check out this series. You should check it out anyway even if you aren't up to speed on litRPG. The stories are great!
I was kind of glad for the change in formulas for this book. While, yes, they did get rid of another one of the ex-masters, it was nice to see that that was actually a very small part of this story. While the rest of it is the MC basically trying to get his "manhood" back to full working order, there is quite a bit of things that are resolved in this story, and it is great to see Meera again.
A pleasant surprise. I thought this series would be going downhill, as this is book seven already. If anything, it has gotten better. As others have mentioned, there is some nice character development going on and the author is not shy to touch on problems that can afflict any sexual relationship and explore new avenues. And, as always, the sex scenes are very nicely done.
Another great and fun read with adventure treachery trolls and fairy orgies! Yes there is sex but it's not the driving force of this book. Great established character that you want to see succeed in and out of the VR world. You'll enjoy your time reading!
I liked the character development from the protagonist throughout the story and it felt delt with a few modern topics such as what what is generally considered offensive and what is considered edgy yet acceptable.
having read all seven books I must say this series is one of the most fun books, I have ever read. The characters are diverse and very belevible.I recommend this series of books to any fans of the fantasy genre.
Hi, I've read all 7 plus the Christmas special. I absolutely loved the comedy elements in this, they are always there but this book had me belly laughing, can't wait for next instalment
So glad to see this series back after so long! Absolutely sideplitting in places that left me getting funny looks of people! On lockdown! Then grab this series for a wild ride!
AJ Markam continues his long streak of successful novels that delivers on it's promise of adult fantasy LitRPG that keeps you enthralled to the very end. Very well done character growth for the main character! Btw, I wanna punch Chad, too!
When Ian is faced by more challenges in the form of very small but beautiful supermodel faeries, he discovered the pleasure of a more sensual nature. It is also nice to see Ian out think his opponents and win without having to kill then all.
From start to finish, a thrill ride of wit, humor, magic, parodies, and sex... and damn such a great way to spin ED into a quest... well done sir... well done!
This is a good book. You should read it. I like the story. The characters are fun. It’s been awhile since the last book. I can’t enough of the adventures.
New Twist, Good Humor Ian, Stig, and Alaria are back and reinforce their ongoing relationships and background nicely.
Ian pays off the loan shark Varkus he borrowed heavily from to fix the airship in a previous story, paying in part with a large gem with an unknown curse on it.
The crew goes to visit Deek, the ancient dungeon core who is good friends with Alaria. After some cajoling and fun interacting with his memorable personality, he agrees to let them grind in his dungeon. While there, a fairy Mauvia comes to visit Wyalla, Deek's dungeon fairy, looking for help stopping internecine wars between fairies, brownies, and others that started without provocation. Deek points out that the team could go help the fairies for xp instead of grinding his dungeon.
The central twist in this book is that for once the next master to take revenge on acts first. Ian is called to aid the fairies who are under attack by the brownies, only through investigations discovers why the attacks are occurring and follows it back to one of Alaria's previous masters who is motivating the internecine war amongst the fairy realms.
Ian slowly starts to develop male performance issues for unknown reason. He cries to his boss and others back in the real world, but they only answer that it is in the code, and he should figure it out in game. This provides a leaping-off point for some issues and workarounds between Ian and Alaria.
Ian starts spending more time interacting with the office staff in the real world. i'd say this is a weak point in the book because it makes Ian look like an obnoxious emotional baby instead of a professional tester, and it also makes him unlikable, which makes the stories harder to enjoy.
Lots of references to pop culture and the "real world" that made the story harder to get immersed in and enjoy. Hritch the 8th master. Cathedral of logic brought down by sex. Numerous foreshadowings of "bad writing offenses" of Chad forthcoming.
Huge complicated plot to get a gang war going between Varkus and crew and Peenochio and his gang. Varkus has sold the cursed gem to Peenochio, and Peenochio has to die for Ian to get it back. Elaborate huge battle, leveraging "broken" items.
