Stolen is a sexy, standalone Alien Alpha Romance full of danger, betrayal, love, and the kind of epic steam that will have you flipping the pages fast!
Alison Aimes is a USA Today bestselling author of Sci-Fi, Fantasy, & Omegaverse Romance. Her books are on the steamy side and full of strong heroes, brave heroines, loads of action, and happy ever-afters. She lives in Maryland with her husband, two kids, her dog and a serious stash of chocolate.
Stolen, by Alison Aimes, is a sexy, stand alone Alien romance. I loved Alison’s Condemned series so I’ve been so excited to venture into this new world. And as I expected I would be, I was completely swept away and in love with the characters and their story.
The year on Earth is 9079. Aurora Blake lives and is under the supervision of her step father, perhaps respected by the public, but was actually a vicious man, bent on gaining power and money. He is a man who enjoys making others suffer, including his step daughter. He has plans for her, plans she is beginning to clearly understand. She needs to escape. And to do so, she needs money. In order to make this happen, Aurora begins stealing jewels and pawning them.
Dakar Volkan is half martian and half human, disgraced firstborn executive to his father’s estate. Dakar was initially raised by his father and step mother, and treated with brutality and hatred. Eventually, he made his way to be with his uncles on Mars where he was taught to be a Warlord, and to live with honor. After the death of his father, Dakar is back on Earth to claim his rightful place, to make right the wrongs of his family. Only his younger half brother believes he should inherit everything. So Dakar is forced to fight for what is rightfully his. Only somehow, he has become a suspect in the recent missing jewels. At the same time, women have been being found murdered in the Outer World. It’s only a matter of time before they try to blame him for these crimes as well.
“This planet and its people might have marked the boy he’d been, but they did not have to impact the man he’d become.”
When Dakar looks up from the garden to see a young woman on the balcony, his own little voyeur, he can feel the pull, the golden threads already trying to link them. His mate. But taking a mate is not why he is on Earth. Aurora doesn’t understand the pull she feels to Dakar. She doesn’t know him, only sees a beautiful man, a man she is told is a savage beast.
“For the first time in his life someone was as vital to his existence as he was to hers.”
Dakar and Aurora try to fight the bonds bringing them together. But it’s not possible. Aurora needs to only concentrate on gaining enough money to get away from her stepfather. And Dakar has battles of his own to fight. If he knew she was the true jewel thief, the one responsible for putting the suspicion on him, he would never forgive her.
“He’d found his greatest fortune in the same place he’d once thought would only bring him pain.”
I loved everything about this book. Mostly Dakar. This man/beast had suffered so much at the hands of others. But he somehow still had a truly good heart. He wanted revenge, yes, but more than that, he wanted to right wrongs and help the disadvantaged. And, once he gives in to the mating call to Aurora, he was all in. This man! These two steamed up the pages. Dakar is all Alpha, bent on making Aurora his in every way. I want to also mention Dakar’s closest friend, Grayson. I am very intrigued by him and hope to see him possibly in a future book?
This is an amazing, suspenseful, steamy, beautiful story. I loved everything about it. The epilogue was perfect! I think it’s safe to say that if Alison Aimes writes it, I will read it.
This is a sci-fi futuristic mates romance that is set on earth in the year 9079. It was an easy read and I’m a big fan of this authors work as she consistently delivers. This was quite a suspenseful read the heroine lady Aurora is operating as a jewel thief absconding with trinkets to help finance her escape from her step-father's clutches.
It’s during one such excursion that Aurora encounters and captures the attention of Warlord DaKar Volkan. DaKar is back on earth to claim his birthright he’s of mixed heritage carrying Martian blood from his mother so the powers that be are dragging their feet and then there’s his younger half-brother also causing waves.
DaKar despises everything Elithe which is the ruling class on earth he also has no plans to stick around as his memory’s and experiences here are far from good ones, he just wants to claim his birthright and assist his old retainers and then he’s done he just didn’t plan on a mate being part of the deal. So initially he does try to separate himself from the mating heat. He still wants Aurora but on his terms believing he can resist fates call.
Aurora feels a pull towards him also but because of her current situation knows it can’t be. When her path crosses DaKar’s she’s determined to stay far away from him plus she initially finds the exotic male annoying and arrogant.
I wasn’t really a fan of how these two initially meet whilst he’s occupied elsewhere it is a pet hate of mine. I then wasn’t sold on his reaction but I put that aside and dealt because the rest of the story I found really enjoyable. Plus it definitely helped that he only wanted Aurora afterwards.
This was suspenseful and intriguing it felt slightly like a futuristic historical romance one with plenty of intrigue and suspense. Aurora could definitely have avoided a lot of the angst if she’d just been truthful from the start but DaKar also isn’t perfect and does seem to be the sort that acts on his emotions first. Aurora also does have the habit of plunging herself headlong into danger without thinking it through first. I did like them both and neither of them was perfect but they did feel authentic and they also had a lot of chemistry together.
There’s a lot of intrigue here and as well as the robberies there’s also a murderer on the loose. This easily managed to keep my attention and It was a good read.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review
I am a huge fan of Alison Aimes. I totally devoured her SciFi series Condemned. This is a totally new story set far into the future. It is a marvelous love story and has left me with a yearning for more from this world she has created.
Dakar is a half breed Martian Warlord. He’s dangerous and dominate and irresistible. Aurora Blake is young, Elite, and very beautiful. She’s leading a very dangerous double life. Together they bring us a sexy, smart romance that will leave you breathless. A dystopian world filled with intrigue, murder, desperation, and white-hot passion and you have Stolen.
Dakar is a complicated man. Half earth, half of Mars. His childhood was brutal and sad and broke my heart. But he took that and became a brave man. A man of honor. A protector. Now he is fighting for his birthright to use to put past wrongs to right. He never counted on one woman wrapping him up with golden soul chains that will change his and her life.
Aurora holds secrets and plans and desperation. She too has been abused and neglected. But now she is desperate to escape the hold of her vicious stepfather before he breaks her. She wants to run away, far away from earth and the monster that will consume her. But she never intends to pull Dakar into her life. But she has no power to resist the mating.
I found this world to be totally fascinating and it left me so curious to know more.
I relished and savored every bit of this story! The hero, Dakar is a delicious alpha male. And Aurora is delightfully full of surprising actions. She is half girl, half woman, innocent yet wise beyond her years and very resourceful.
The story captivated me and bound me to turn the page to see what happened next. I was totally enthralled in this world and captivated by their love story. I didn’t want their story to end but it was very satisfying. Like all fairy tales...it ended with a very happy ever after.
The year is 9094 and what is left of Earth is unrecognizable. After many wars, all that's left of what we call home is protected by a dome. The people of Earth are divided - the Élithe and the others. DaKar was the son of a powerful member of the council that rules over everyone. He was also half-Martian, seen and treated as an Outer World freak. He was abused and tormented for his half blood, surrounded by monsters who believed themselves somehow above him. Years later, after returning to his true home and becoming the man he was always meant to be, he arrives back on Earth to take his inheritance and finally shake things up in the oppressive culture that was propagated by the wealthy.
A chance 'meeting' when he was just a boy created a connection between DaKar and Aurora. She was Élithe and supposed to be untouchable. But DaKar isn't one for rules and Aurora can't deny what is quickly growing between them. However, she has a secret she cannot tell. When DaKar's honor is called into question, the one person he would never suspect is also the person responsible for his predicament. However, there is more at work here and I loved all of the moving parts the author introduced.
While I'm not the biggest fan of how this story reached its climax or its ending, I enjoyed the journey to get there. It was so much fun to watch all of the minor characters go about their business, gossiping, griping, and generally being pains in the behind. I was also entertained by everything about DaKar and his experiences, both as a boy and as a man. I loved the way his mind worked and I would have been happy to spend more time with him. Aurora wasn't very impressive. I get that her being a liar and a thief were meant to feature heavily in the plot, but she didn't do herself any favors.
After being introduced to this author's work with Ruthless King, I'm making it my mission to read all of her books!
Its no secret that I love Alison Aimes. Her Condemned series is a favorite of mine in sci fi genre. When I heard she has a secret book shes been working on I was very excited and happy that I got an arc. But unfortunately this one just isn't up my alley. Its just a matter of taste I suppose.
This is set in the far future , but in the same time it feels like the setting is back to 1800, with ladies and lords and gentlemens, and this is a genre (historical) that I m not really into.
DaKar is a Warlord, half-martian , golden, horned and fanged. His childhood was brutal but he managed to escape and when he returns he is not a boy anymore and is ready to take what is rightful his. Lady Aurora is an elithe, she is kind of living a double life: on the surface she is obedient, cold and perfect, and on the other side she is full of surprises and ready to do anything to survive .
I liked the writing style, it was very good, the new world very imaginative, the hierarchy, the mystery and suspense and the love story sweet, but I found myself very frustrated with Aurora a few times. She wanted to be this selfless person , but in the end all she had to do was to communicate which was not her forte. DaKar is the alpha martian that can be ruthless but gentle with his mate, I really like him because even if life only gave him ugly he wanted to see the bright side. Another intriguing part was the secondary characters, I liked DaKar's friend and I believe he will get his own story.
Overall , if you like a mix between sci fi romance and a bit of historical aspects this is exactly what you should read. I will go with 3.5 stars because even if its not my type of book I think is was done very good.

⤅ Lots of potential, but a giant fly in the ointment.
I've been binge-reading Alison Aimes's books over the last few days, and I think it's time to settle down and actually start reviewing some of them. I knew I wouldn't like this one when this book opens with the virgin heroine watching the hero have sex with another woman. To make things 100 times worse, he knows that the heroine is his fated mate, but doesn't want any emotional ties so offers her a relationship based purely on lust. Then somehow, he flips to deciding actually, he does want a mate after all... it made no sense and got on my nerves. Also, he calls her 'Balcony', because that's where she was watching him have sex from, and I couldn't believe the heroine could tolerate that nickname. Grim stuff.
I could never really get past that scene enough to enjoy the good writing in the rest of the book.
The blurb doesn't do the story justice. This was an epic mix of drama, lies, secrets, deception, suspense, love, hope, betrayal, hurt & trust. This was an exhilarating & emotional adventure❤ Sci-fi at its finest😍
#This was my 1st book by Alison & I just fell in love with her writing❤
Received ARC in exchange for a honest review *Perk of being in her newsletter😊*
Dakar is a martian warlord who was abused as a kid by his Earther elite family for being a halfbreed. He has came back to claim his father's title, to help the servants who are more family to him, who stood for him years ago.
Aurora is a desperate criminal, stealing to attain freedom from her stepfather's grasp. To run away from the pain. Everyone Called Dakar a savage but the real savage, a monster & madman was her Stepfather..
These two crossed paths years ago in childhood during a ball. A different time. But his martian instincts knew she was his.
It was fitting that they meet again in a ball. While she was stealing nonetheless XD. He acted kinda assholish but it was all due to his mating heat & their ever growing soul binds..
‘It was kind of sweet. The big bad warlord knew a million different ways to kill & fuck but was stymied by one small apology.’
She made him the fall guy, but then again she didn't know him that well then. Ruthless yet gentle, savage but controlled, so genuine with a heart of gold.
‘The longing, for not just a physical connection, but an emotional one, was so foolish & yet so hard to resist.’
But they had to resist, they both had higher reasons. Lives to protect. Though through ballrooms, art museum & theater halls, they knew resisting was futile. Their love blossoming❤
It was so sad that the world was their enemy, so many schemes against them.. & while all he gave her was honesty, she fed him lies. 1st to save herself & now to protect him.
Guilt ate at her, but their investigation showed that someone was framing him as the thief & murderer. Even as their love grew, she knew their time was up.
She'll confess then Run, forgo her plans, saving him took priority. I admired her strength..
But I so knew that her lies will be a problem.. they came back for a vengeance.
His heart was ashen by her betrayal. but her trust in him, at his lowest, made him realize & find the truth.
Dakar has finally found love. He'll protect what's his. She's His & he's hers. Completely. Utterly. A madman won't destroy something so beautiful..Dakar won't let him.
P.s. I'm in a daze after completing this story. Loved it! & The epilogue was fantastic🔥 His friend-Grayson was a wonderful character❤
I knew by the blurb I was not going to love the beginning, since I’m not a massive fan of our h or H having detailed described sex with other people, which is why I was a bit leery and kept it in my ‘to read’ pile for a while. Although I loved and devoured the previous sci-fi books by this author, I was unfortunately not able to finish this one.
Despite it being very well written, I was just too put off by the H having detailed sex with another woman, while the h was watching. What made it worse, the H knew that she was watching and that she was his fated mate - and all he did was smirk. Ugh! 🤢 Thanks, but no, thanks. Not sure if that was meant to portray the H as being virile and sexy, but all it did was make me want to 🤮
This was my first read by Alison Aimes and OMG! Where has she been all my life?! I absolutely loved this book and cannot wait to read more from her!
This Sci-Fi alien romance story was well-written, so captivating, full of emotion, and so very unputdownable.
A talented jewel thief, a murderer, and lies galore made this a highly entertaining read and made me never want to stop reading. When I wasn’t reading this, I was constantly thinking about it.
A sexy half Martian Warlord named DaKar, a fierce heroine named Aurora, who was determined to do what it takes to get away from her abusive and evil stepfather. When these two were together, the air around them was super charged, their interactions scorching hot.
I loved that even at 10 years old, DaKar knew 7-year old Aurora was his. I could feel that pull between them, the strength of their bonds. The connection was already there.
I fell hard for DaKar. My heart ached for him. For everything he’d been through, and for the things he’s still going through. Never feeling wanted, never feeling like he’s capable of being loved. It was impossible to not fall in love with him. Even with his bossiness and arrogance and growly commands.
But what I loved most, was his strength, perseverance, his ability to find control from the beast he could be, and be GOOD and honest and caring.
And can we talk about his filthy, dirty talkin’ mouth?
YES. PLEASE.
This beautiful half human, half Martian made my heart flutter and certain body parts tingle with just a sentence, a simple command.
Well yes, DaKar... I will obey you.
SUPER protective. Beautifully fierce. Deliciously growly. He is the perfect alien book boyfriend.
Intense and suspenseful, heart-wrenching yet heart-warming, passionate and sizzling, this story had it all.
If you’re a sci-fi romance fan, I highly recommend this one.
Dakar and Aurora were drawn to each other from the moment their eyes locked on each other as children. Dakar, as a half martian child, didn't even understand yet that as his fated mate she had started his mating heat and bond.
Dakar, abused and ostracized for being half-martian his whole childhood, comes back to Earth to claim his inheritance. He plans to take care of the people who protected and looked after him as a kid, while stirring the pot with the horrible, snobby elithe society and flipping it on it's ear.
Aurora is desperate to escape. She isn't like the vapid and cruel elithe. She needs to find a way to get money so she can run far enough away that her powerful, dangerous stepfather can't find her, before it's too late.
When they see each other again, now as adults, sparks fly. Aurora is pulled into his orbit, like a star to a black hole. She can't escape what he does to her, how he makes her feel, the call of his soul to hers. He sets her body on fire. Dakar feels all this and more. He knows she is star bound mate and can't help but to chase and claim.
But things aren't so simple. There are things in the works, in the shadows, unbeknownst to them. Someone is pulling strings and making moves. With political intrigue, backstabbing, sabotage, and even a serial killer on the loose, will they be able to figure out the truth and trust each other to find their HEA.
I really liked this one and was pulled in from the get go. Dakar was raw, powerful, and sexy. Aurora was beautiful and strong, trying to save herself from a cruel future. You can feel their pain, and doubts stemming from horrific pasts. Yet their chemistry is undeniable and smokin' hot, their love written in the stars.
I just love this author’s aliens!! It only took one look across a crowded room for DaKar, 10, to know that Aurora, 7, was meant to be his. It wasn’t until they were grown and DaKar came back to earth from the Martian planet as a WarLord that things really took off for them. What started as ties of young infatuation grew and now there is no stopping the pull towards each other even as they both fight it. Will Aurora’s web of deceit be their downfall? Will DaKar be able to overcome his past to explore this magical and foreign connection he has to Aurora?
Stolen by Alison Aimes, is a captivating sci-fi alien romance. I quickly became immersed in the story and eagerly anticipated what would happen next. The flawed characters were particularly alluring, and their struggles well-developed.
The story follows Warlord DaKar Volkan, an outcast who seeks to claim his birthright, and Lady Aurora Blake, who is desperate to change her circumstances. As the eldest son of an esteemed élithe, DaKar is expected to inherit his father's title, property, and assets, finally granting him the ability to safeguard those he believes he let down in his youth. Meanwhile, Lady Aurora is silently enduring her stepfather's increasingly violent obsession with her. She decides to pilfer jewelry from her fellow élithes to raise funds for an escape off-world. During one such heist, she stumbles upon DaKar, engaged in pleasurable activities with the owner of the necklace she just swiped. Although she could have made a quick escape, something is captivating about the exquisite male that demands her attention. A strong urge for a soul bond that she cannot comprehend is suddenly awakened within her. DaKar discovers her and experiences the same compulsion towards Aurora, soon embarking on a pursuit of the bold and curious woman.
What follows is a perilous journey, plagued by betrayal, dishonesty, and deception. Can they rely on one another and their instincts to recognize that they have ultimately discovered solace in each other's embrace, despite the obstacles posed by their enemies?
Stolen by Alison Aimes is a beautiful portrayal of the process of healing one's inner brokenness and finding safety and happiness in the midst of it all. It explores the complexities of baring your soul to another, making it an enchanting tale of love.
Multi POV - DaKar, Aurora + the Villian Standalone
Tropes: alien romance, enemies-to-lovers, fated mates, "touch her and die" vibes
This is another story that’s been in my library for a very long time. And while i enjoyed it,i didn’t really love it. I loved the alpha DaKar was,and who he’d become,in spite of his horrible childhood.…. A strong, caring WarLord, that wanted to make life better for those that suffered because of his father, stepmother and stepbrother. But i didn’t love Aurora, who may have been doing everything she could to escape the horrible situation she was in,but. She created trouble for the only male that showed affection, that cared about her. And did she come clean? Did she tell the man she cared about what she was, what she’d done? No,while she may have been trying to help him find the real killer, she still didn’t tell him she was the thief. All DaKar wanted was to take care of her,to keep her safe, and those he cared about. And it nearly cost him his life…. Their chemistry may have been hot,and he might have been able to sense her emotions, but he didn’t see or feel her deceit. And in the meantime the enemy put their evil plans into motion….
As i said,i loved DaKar. He may have been rough and brutal, but he was honest. And hot. He made me enjoy this story, and i rooted for him. He deserved to get the best,he deserved to be respected for the man he’d become. The suspense was nicely done, the enemy cloaked in secrecy until the shit really hit the fan. A few twists that gave the story just that little bit of depth.

ARC Provided by Booksprout 🌱 This ebook was $4.99 on Amazon at the time of this review. Opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
The book is about the lust for political power and wealth between half siblings and others. It's politics, politics, politics all the time! And lust for beautiful women the other part of the time! Some of the society norms are similar to upper class society during the King George period in 18th century England.
Phenomenal blend of far-future sci-fi and courtly romance. This is an independent, stand-alone story, unconnected (at least so far) to this author's Condemned series, but if you liked those books, you'll love this one. The action, high tension and taut storyline of the Condemned series are all here, combined with politics and social commentary. It might be my favorite of her books so far. I loved the deft characterisation, like the contrast between DaKar, Warlord of Nothing v his later titles. Those perfect little touches abound in this book, making it a delight to read. Although the romance is at the center of this story, I was fascinated by how the author explores these characters, who are so privileged on the surface, but emotionally orphaned in important ways. Seeing them come together, to make something more than they are alone, is a joy. Highly recommended.
Set several centuries in the future on a dystopian Earth still recovering from a devastating war, this standalone details the relationship between part-Human/part-Martian DaKar and Aurora, the woman he instantly knows is his fated mate. Will his efforts to reclaim his birthright; her desperation to escape her step-father's cruelty; and society's prejudice against "aliens" doom their love before it even begins? Note: I do want to warn potential readers that DaKar has sex with a woman in front of Aurora; while it's before the two actually begin their relationship, it still won't be to all tastes.
This book blends a lot of genres. We get erotica (including the "fated mates" trope), sci-fi, historical (the social hierarchies, titles, and character names recall the Victorian era), and mystery (the murders are very Jack-The-Ripper and, thus, again hark back to 19th century England). It also addresses social problems (racism, xenophobia, classism) that even hundreds of years in the future seemingly will still be with us. If any of these genres interest you, you may enjoy this. Both characters are likeable and exhibit growth; the prose flows with few errors; and there are a couple of interesting secondary characters that if Ms. Aimes continues with this series might get their own books.
I do like this author; I've read almost all her books; and look forward to reading more. That said, I've come to realize that I identify the same areas that need work in almost every review. At this point, I urge the author to address them -- particularly since, from what I can tell from other reviews, I'm not alone in my objections.
My problems are:
1) Repetition/Slow Pace/Unnecessary Length: Conversations and inner monologues replay the same conflicts throughout and, after a while, give us little new information. Aurora's guilt over the thefts; DaKar's desire for revenge; the push/pull of their relationship -- all were too repetitious; slowed down the pace so much that I skimmed large sections of the middle; and made this book unnecessarily long.
2) Rushed and OTT Endings: Ms. Aimes tends to pile on climax after climax (plot, not sexual) into her endings that A) strain credulity (, and B) unfold so quickly and impart so many revelations that readers have no time to adjust.
3) Plot Holes: I mention some above, but there are others. What secret, for example, is Cecilia >? And, towards the end of the book, Aurora ?
I keep typing something to say about this book and end up deleting it. I won’t be able to do it justice. Can’t explain the emotional roller coaster I just went on. Holy fuck! This read had me laughing, crying, just all around FEELING. EVERY. DAMN. THING! I just know I’m going to treat this book like Gollum - pet it, hold it tight and call it ‘my precious’!
The writing and editing of this story was clean, with few typos that I found in the ARC version of this manuscript. The world building was competent, with the Recency type culture of the Earth life under the dome coming to life. The characterization was all right, though the heroine made some really weird choices which meant I did not find her to be a sympathetic character. She was in danger, and the hero would have helped her at any time if she had just asked for help. There was nothing stopping her from doing so for the majority of the novel. She also had plenty of opportunity to tell him about her thievery and she chose not to, for no good reason. The hero was also kind of a douche. He was verbally really cruel to the heroine multiple times. I could not figure out why the heroine fell in love with him. The development of the romantic relationship was marred by the heroine's unwillingness to honestly communicate what was going on in her life and her total unwillingness to ask for help, for no good reason. Near the end, the hero also physically assaults the heroine, which did NOT impress me, let me tell you. The plot and pacing kind of dragged for me. This novel had high unjustified angst on the side of both hero and heroine, which really detracted from my ability to enjoy this novel. The stakes were really high, but could have been significantly reduced with the application of honest communication, so I did not enjoy the high stakes like I usually do in romance novels. This novel used both the Refusal to Honestly Communicate trope and the Great Misunderstanding trope, both of which I typically despise. If you typically enjoy those tropes, you will probably enjoy this novel. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship were both two stars in this novel. The plot, pacing, and world building were slow and unoriginal, so they also rated two stars. This novel ends on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger, so that is a big plus to this novel. I don't recommend this sci-fi romance to readers who enjoy romances between people who have healthy communication skills. I do not plan to buy myself a keeper copy of this romance.

DaKar Volkan was a half-Martian Warlord. He grew up in a house that they loathed him and treaded him poorly. He managed to escape and go to his mother's world. When his father died he came back to claim his rightful position. But he wasn't that little boy anymore, he was the newly titled Executive of Starlight, Warlord of the Martian Provinces Five through Fifteen, and third Prince of the Qatarishel Martian dynasty. When he was young he had met a beautiful girl that haunted his dreams. In his first days back he met her again, the Lady Aurora Blake an Elithe. She had become a thief in order to get money and escape from her vicious stepfather. Their worlds collided, the lust and the bond that was slowly creating between them mixed their fates together. They were ready to fight and protect each other because they felt that no-one could break them apart. But what about the lies and the murderer on the loose?
Stolen is a sci-fi romance between an elithe girl and a half martian man. There is so much suspense, violence, intrigue, lust, and love. The plot is captivating, quite explanatory and with good descriptions. I am not an avid reader of this genre but I could understand most of it. What surprised me was that their genitals were described by weird funny words. The characters were great and they had intense chemistry between them. I liked how similar their lives and their behaviors were, it created a much-needed spark for the story. My favorite part was when they joined forces to find the "monster". It's an enjoyable read and I will rate it with 4.5 stars. I highly recommend it to sci-fi readers.
DNF 33% (Might come back later and retry to read it...at some point)
I couldn't finish this book mainly because I wasn't able to like the characters. Their behaviors were just so unappealing and I couldn't really sympathize with their situations or their goals. Their interactions were frustrating. The plot in itself could have been nice but the way the characters were acting really put me off.
At that point in the book, I can't give one single quality that the main characters had. Aurora was a liar. She is dishonest, selfish, a thief, and doesn't think of consequences all that much. I know she is desperate to escape her life, but the way she was going about it just made me not like her.
As for DaKar, he was arrogant and mean. And his attitude, very unattractive. I don't know if he changes throughout the book, but I'm not sticking around to find out.
I was bored, so I DNFed. I can see a potential, and might try to come back later. I just didn't feel like forcing myself to keep reading when I could be enjoying another story better.
BY ALL MEANS!!! I do not hate the author. I looooved her Ruthless King book. I guess I'm just disappointed with Stolen after reading the amazing alphaverse story that was RK.
Big burly brute, with sensitive horns, fangs and a heart of gold. And a mistreated woman trying to get out from under the thumb of a madman. What more do you want, I ask? Well you get a lot more with this story. Social and familial injustice, intrigue and a who-done-it of epic proportions. But you also get friendship and a deep all encompassing love.
DaKar and Aurora have a tough road ahead, but the destination will be totally worth it! ***** Rating: 4 stars Steam: 2.5 flames Genre: Alien / Dystopian Romance ***** The year is 9094, Earth has fallen, and a small portion is now under a dome and run by the Earther Corporation. A woman's only worth is as a breeder or as property to further their guardian’s rank. There is a caste system of Elithe’s and workers, where the elithe control the wealth, living situations, and policy within the dome and the non-elithe are treated terribly.
DaKar, a half-human/half-Martian has been an outcast since his birth. Raised by a father that saw him as an abomination, he did not experience love...only hatred and abuse. Aurora, a beautiful spit fire, and an elithe. She is the stepdaughter to a man set on becoming the High Chancellor, Executive Whetherton, but she wants to escape...even if she has to steal to fund her escape.
DaKar left Earth years ago rather than continue to be abused by his father’s hand. But his father is dead now and as the eldest son he is the Executive to the Starlight estate. However, he will have his evil stepmother and half-brother to fight for his rightful inheritance and position. It will be a fight fraught with lies, betrayals, and secrets.
Dakar have a brief encounter when they are young, but when they meet again years later at a ball, Aurora doesn’t understand her draw to the half-Martian outcast, but DaKar does...he knows they are mates and they both can feel the soul bond, but he is determined to fight the bond.
These two have witty banter, secrets, lies, and so many obstacles to overcome to get to a HEA. They both fight their attraction for varied reasons and those reasons and secrets may just be their downfall. I enjoyed Stolen and appreciated the different take on an alien romance. Stolen is suspenseful, steamy (and a slowburn IMO it’s hard to explain), and I didn’t see the plot twist until I was right on top of it. I enjoyed the book and will be reading more from Ms. Aimes.
Her gaze locked with his. “I can follow orders.” “Can you?” His voice had deepened to a rasped challenge. “Yes.” She wanted him to understand she accepted him exactly as he was. “If I respect the man giving them, I can be very obedient.”
Dakar and Aurora are pure 🔥 the chemistry between them is off the charts and so is their emotional connection.
Aurora starts off alone, terrified for her life and stealing jewels to try to escape. A chance encounter with Dakar though changes all that.
I’m a big fan of the fated mate trope and Aimes did a great job with this in Stolen as well as great world building. Two very different people irresistibly drawn to one another both physically and mentally start down a path that leads to joy. There was a lot of angst and conflict, and a mystery killer, sacrifice, love, and misunderstandings to overcome before the HEA but it was worth it. Loved this story!!
This was a fantastic book. I loved the connection between DaKar and Aurora, even though they both tried really hard to fight it at various times in the story.
DaKar really has a lot of hurt that he has to deal with, and I think that it was so hard for him to fight that hurt to see things clearly. Once he started to process that, he was able to start to see things better. He really needed to process some of that, and I don't think he wouldn't've if he hadn't met Aurora.
I think that Aurora was really brave. She kept getting put into a difficult place, and she did what she could to fight through it. I think that she will be the perfect mate to a Warlord.
Seriously kinda cute. I loved the plotline, because it was very fascinating and interesting, and it was fully completed and fleshed out. In the beginning, it did remind me of another book by Aimes, but for the most part, I genuinely enjoyed the story. It's one of those that you have to keep reading until you finish, just because you're not sure where it would go next.
My only thing was I didn't like the male lead in the beginning. He gave me weird vibes and I didn't particularly care for him until later in the book.
There is so much to be found in these pages! Complex and beautiful. DeKar is a warlord, but half-Martian so not accepted by many. Aurora struggles with a brutal step-father and is using social occasions to steal jewelry to enable her escape. As their paths overlap a wild and passionate connection is revealed. When falsely accused, it seems only Aurora turning herself in will save DeKar. Fortunately DeKar has plans of his own.
Will keep you glued to your seat. Absolutely terrific.
***** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book *****
Horns, fangs, golden skin, big heart, honor, loyalty, big cock-sto... The perfect man isn't a man at all, but a half-Martian Warlord who meets his fated mate, as children, across a crowded ballroom. He's the unwanted, abused son of the most important man on Earth, and she is the lonely, emotionally abused daughter of a goddamn madman.
When they meet again as adults, the attraction is literally invisible golden strings, pulse-pounding heat, and vivid, naughty fantasies. Damn, I got a wettie reading the scenes between these two.
Alison Aimes does an incredible job creating a world different from her gritty convicts of Dragath in this new world where the rich rule, the poor are left to rot, and those who're willing to fight back do so with intrigue rather than brute force (though DaKar can certainly take and give a punch). Throw in a villain who makes your skin crawl and secondary characters you can't help for root for, and you have a book you hope like hell is just the first book in a series (wink, wink, nudge, nudge--Alison!)
Overall, this was one of my favorite books by Alison. Though I f**king love my Dragath brutes, I also adored the absolute adoration and true romance in this tale.
4.5 stars. I was surprised by this book, It took me in and kept me reading. The story line is great and you can feel the emotions of the characters. You can feel the connection between Aurora and Dakar. It has just the right amount of guess who, love, emotions and violence. A great read.
This was an AWESOME READ that I enjoyed reading!!! I liked it. The characters were well rounded with a good story line. Real page turner! I absolutely loved it. This book is amazing. I would suggest this to anyone looking for a great romance novel and love for reading!!!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was my first book by Alison and I'm a huge sci fi fan, so was intrigued by the blurb on this, it sounded like a good read.
Set in the future we have Dakar, a half breed martian..... golden skinned, horns, fangs.... he had a terrible upbringing as a child, badly treated due to his mixed heritage, but now he is grown and has returned to claim what is rightfully his.
Aurora Blake, step daughter of the head of a powerful corporation, again she has been treated badly, her step father is a horrible person and her only thought is to escape him, which is not proving to be easy. She steals jewels to fund her escape while attending functions.
It's a one one these functions that these two meet, it is Dakar's first function on his return to Earth, his playboy reputation proceeds him along with his sexual prowess, and Aurora spies him in the garden with a woman, and cannot stop watching them, they have an instant connection even though he is with someone else.
Even though it is set in the future, it reminds me more of a historical read, which I'm not a fan of, so unfortunately this read was just not right for me. It's also very much a mystery whodunit, with the people trying to work out who stole the jewels and committed the murders. Dakar is a great character, I loved him and his dominant ways, yet his protector side came out with Aurora. But I was left a little frustrated with Aurora's character, her decisions and her lack of communication.
If you like a historial type read mixed with aliens this well be up your street, it just wasn't for me.
