Wes O’Neill is perfectly content to hang with his friends and enjoy island life on Lantern Beach. Something begins to change inside him when Paige Henderson sweeps into his life. But the beautiful newcomer is hiding painful secrets beneath her cheerful facade.
Police dispatcher Paige Henderson came to Lantern Beach riddled with guilt and uncertainties after the fallout of a bad relationship. When she meets Wes, she begins to open up to the possibility of love again. But there’s something Wes isn’t telling her—something that could change everything.
As the winds shift, doubts seep into Paige’s mind. Can Paige and Wes trust each other, even as the currents work against them? Or is trouble from the past too much to overcome?
Christy Barritt is an author, freelance writer and speaker who lives in Virginia. She’s married to her Prince Charming, a man who thinks she’s hilarious—but only when she’s not trying to be. Christy’s a self-proclaimed klutz, an avid music lover who’s known for spontaneously bursting into song, and a road trip aficionado. She’s only won one contest in her life—and her prize was kissing a pig (okay, okay… actually she did win the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Suspense and Mystery also). Her current claim to fame is showing off her mother, who looks just like former First Lady Barbara Bush When she’s not working or spending time with her family, she enjoys singing, playing the guitar, and exploring small, unsuspecting towns where people have no idea how accident prone she is.
Another GREAT Barritt book that I could NOT put down! Loved how Paige and Wes met in the previous book and how their friendship develops in this one. It was slightly frustrating that Wes would not communicate with Paige what his hesitation was really about, very misleading for Paige and was satisfied when Cassidy explains that to him. I thought Paige handled herself and the circumstances beautifully. The ex-girlfriend, Jennifer, is perfectly creepy in this story and well described. The scene with Paige's parents was super touching and so well written. This is one book where I didn't like the cover, but highly recommend the story!
I was given an ebook copy. I was not required to write a positive review. The thoughts and comments are my own.
Sometimes I feel like a broken record saying over and over again how every book I read by this author is AMAZING! Yet it’s true! Whenever I hear there is a new book out by Christy Barritt I know I’ll enjoy it and not be able to put it down until I’ve finished it. WELL, this story keeps that thinking going. From the very first page to the very end I was captivated and pulled into the lives of each of these characters. We finally get to read hunky Wes’s story! He’s a fix-it guy and tries hard to fix whatever he sees broken. Unfortunately, he can fix everything. When he meets Paige he feels there’s some deep hurt in her life but she’s not sharing it with him. He also is hiding a part of his past from everyone. Can the two overcome the issues in their past and start to trust each other enough to build a relationship? Or will the past come deadly close to breaking them apart? Christy Barritt is the kind of author who weaves her stories with so much action and suspense that your heart pounds and you find yourself suspicious of everyone around you, even your own family. Her books are the kind you don’t read at night, or you’ll never get to sleep. Now don’t get me wrong, I LOVE THESE BOOKS! If you like twists and turns, who done it stories, then you need to buy this book! It will keep you on the edge of your chair. I actually couldn't put it down! Of course, I also didn't want to go to bed until I found out what was really going on! Another thing about way Christy Barritt writes is that she does a wonderful job sharing the hope we can have to be a victor not a victim through the grace of God. To be strong and not let fear and the past overcome us. I highly recommend you reading this book. I received this book from the author and all opinions are my own.
“Sometimes, the most rewarding thing we can do is to go against the current. It’s challenging. It’s hard. But you can make your own way . . . and sometimes that’s exactly what we need to do.”
“We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps. ~ Proverbs 16: 9”
“There was romantic. And then there was creepy.”
I was looking forward to a book about Wes, since I figured he had some pretty good secrets. Just didn’t know he had a fatal attraction stalker woman after him. And somehow she knows he has a new special lady friend. I have to admit, not much of a mystery and the suspense was a bit over the top, even by Lantern Beach standards! The romance angle wasn’t too sappy, which was nice. Again, would have preferred a bit more mystery and maybe a nice twist or two. But a decent read, especially if you’ve been devouring the series like I have.
Attractions can be fatal. Wes O'Neil is barely holding out hope that his past has not arrived to haunt him, when a series of coincidences begin to mar his peaceful existence on Lantern Beach Island. He loves the life he is building there; and maybe, just maybe he is beginning to love Paige Henderson.
Paige Henderson is crushed when the man with whom she has begun to imagine a future is accused of terrible things. Should she turn and run, or stay and fight? A very new friend gave her this wise advice.
"Sometimes, the most rewarding thing we can do is to go against the current. It's challenging. It's hard. But you can make your own way. . . . . and sometimes that's exactly what we need to do."
The winds of danger blow once more over the sands of Lantern Beach through-out this riveting tale!
Winds of Danger by Christy Barritt packs a deep punch for as little as the novella is. The tension runs throughout the whole story, and Barritt doesn't let up. The romance fizzles and sparks between Wes and Paige. It is definitely one for the books with fans of the Lantern Beach series. But . . . this is a plot with a crazy ex-girlfriend who tries to kill Paige so she can be with Wes. It is predictable, and the ending happens pretty quick. It is a plot idea that has been done in movies and books a lot, so I wasn't that thrilled to read it again. Even though Barritt does a fabulous job at bringing the story to life, I, personally, just didn't quite like this one as the previous ones written by her. But don't take my word for it, go read it yourself.
WINDS OF DANGER is the fourth book in the Lantern Beach romantic suspense series and it easily stands alone. Fans will want to read Tides of Deception, Shadow of Intrigue and Storms of Doubt as well as other Lantern Beach mysteries by Christy Barritt.
I've been anxious to read Wes's s story since he was introduced in an earlier book and when Paige came on the scene i knew his story would be coming soon. WINDS OF DANGER is written in Ms. Barritt's fast paced style that makes it hard to put the books down. I'm sorry to say goodbye (maybe--for now at least) to this cast of characters.
If you love romantic suspense (or cozy mysteries) you'll want to read WINDS OF DANGER. A good read with a very slight faith message.
A lot of telling instead of showing. I didn't care for the heroine. The way she turned on the hero, whom she knew, based on the word of a stranger whom she'd already been informed had issues, was unbelievable and made her unlikeable.
Exploring the topic of men who are stalked was interesting and had potential, unfortunately it came directly after a story with a stalked heroine. It made the story repetitive and farfetched that the same crime/mystery occurred twice in a row.
The novel--both in plot and character development--felt rushed and weak. I've been addicted to Christy Barrit's stories, but this one has been my least favorite.
This book pulled me in at the beginning. Two likeable characters, both with dark secrets. Barritt kept the tensions, making the characters question each other constantly. It was beautiful. The reason this is four stars instead of five is because the second half of the book wasn't as intriguing as the first. The payoff wasn't as big as teased. Still, it was an enjoyable book, and I still recommend it.
Every single one of Christy Barritt's books is so filled with intensity, mystery, and intrigue that I fear she will run out of ideas and I will just have to stop reading as I will never find an author to meet her clean exciting and romantic books! Reading all of her books during this year plus of "Covid19" mess has been such a blessing. I simply can't get enough. Thank you so much!
I typically love the Latern Beach books, and while I found Wes to be charming, Paige got on my nerves. What was supposed to be self-dialogue about struggling with choices and poor decisions, I felt they lacked depth and sincerity. Paige just seemed wishy-washy. Anyway, this doesn't change my feelings about the series in general. I love this beach community and its residents.
This one so far is my favorite of this series. The characters are so real. Wes has been around in several of the books, and I've had some questions about him. Now I know the answers. And Paige a perfect compliment for him with just enough spontaneity to keep up and give him a challenge from time to time.
Wes and Paige both had difficult relationships in their past but Wes's has shown up to get her man back. Both H and h are strong people who persevere against his ex with the help of Cassidy and friends.
I loved Wes's story. It was good to see Wes find someone after all that he experienced in his past. Also, for Paige to find happiness after disastrous relationships. As with the other Lantern Beach books, it was a great read.
A little different take on fatal attraction. I was glad Paige’s doubts didn’t last too long in the book. A little more filler than necessary but a great addition to the series.
I loved how Paige worked to get past her mistakes and how Wes waited patiently for her to figure things out. Jennifer, wow, she had a lot of issues. I’m glad that things worked out the way they did.
Another great read in this series. I loved getting to know more about Wes and Paige and finding out their story together. Plus the suspense kept me reading!
This one just wasn't for me. I didn't like the heroine, and the hero was just kind of meh. I was frustrated with their choices, and didn't like this one.
Old girlfriend comes back to hunt down the "man she must have in her life." This story line was almost same as Torrents of Fear. And while I enjoyed both books, I don't want to read another in this series if I know story line in advance.

I love Christy Barritt. This book was not one of her most exciting stories. We knew who the "bad guy" was from the beginning. No surprises and very predictable.
I love this island and the characters, but this one was boring and felt forced. I skipped many pages and this was not the authors usual level of mystery or romance.
Great read. Wes is a great guy who has had some bad thing happen to him and Paige has made some bad decisions bir they deserve happiness. Can they make it? Read this book to find out.
Another enjoyable installment in the Lantern Beach universe. Lots of drama in this one for Wes and Paige to deal with. While not my favorite storyline, it’s still a good and exciting read.
