“I think the family is the place where the most ridiculous and least respectable things in the world go on.” ~ Ugo Betti
Although they’ve been together for a long time, Lucky, of ‘Relation’ by Eden Winters, doesn’t know much about Bo’s family. Even though Lucky’s past gives him plenty of reasons to be paranoid, he is making a concerted effort to not be, but when two suspicious bikers start showing up everywhere he goes, he gets nervous.
When the individuals in question turn up at their door, Lucky makes sure his gun is within reach. However, their suspicious visitors are not enemies; they are Bo’s aunt, Becky aka Fox, and her boyfriend, Ink. Lucky’s mind nearly explodes with questions. How could his kind, polite, generous, vegetarian boyfriend have been raised by these rough and tough bikers? More than that, why has Bo never told him?
Bo’s aunt sacrificed her own dreams for Bo and his brother when she took them out of an abusive relationship. Even so, when he joined the Marines, at eighteen, he left it all behind him. Bo has tried to put his past behind him and make something of himself but no matter how hard he tries, or what anyone else says, he doesn’t believe he has succeeded. Going back home would have only reminded him that he still feels like a failure. Seeing his aunt again stirs feelings Bo thought he had buried; it makes him realize that it was a futile effort. When Bo’s aunt throws her arms around him, Bo’s defenses crumble.
After his aunt’s visit, Bo keeps in touch with them almost every day. Lucky can see how much happier Bo is, not only because he is reconnected with his family, but that he is able to share all of his past secrets. They become closer than ever. There’s not much Lucky will not do to make Bo happy, but when Bo’s family asks them to come to their house for Thanksgiving, Lucky wants to rethink that notion.
This is a hilarious and touching story in Bo’s and Lucky’s continuing saga. I enjoyed every minute of it. The revelations concerning Bo were both painful and poignant, but explained a lot about his nature. Thanks, Eden, for another great story about Bo and Lucky, who remain one of my favorite couples.
