Who can say what has brought Jess and Lindy together?
Maybe it's the beach, the stars and the warm Turkish night air. But they may as well get settled for the night, because Jess has a story to tell and Lindy is ready to listen . . .
Jess had life sorted. A gang of great mates, an adoring fianc and a thriving business - she couldn't have asked for more. But the proverbial rug is whipped out from under her feet when the fianc makes a sharp exit on New Year's Eve. Therein follows the Week From Hell, eternally streaked mascara and Chardonnay-a-plenty.
But this is the story of a woman on a path. Sure, there are a number of trips and falls along the way but Jess is on a journey that will change her life. On a boring business course, she remembers what she really wants; in strange new friendships, new ideas grow; and a last-minute discount holiday to Turkey helps her heart wake up to a whole new rhythm.A rhythm that is just beginning to get going . . .

WHAT READERS ARE SAYING ABOUT 'LIFE IS YOURS'

'Life Is Yours' will take you on a journey of self-discovery led by the lovable and relatable Jess as she struggles to overcome a shattered heart. The magic of this book lies in the nature of it being simultaneously self-help and fiction in one delicious helping as Abi serves up addictive and easily-digestible insights into Jess's mind that everybody will be able to identify with.
Her real skill, however, is her ability to cultivate beauty within bleakness: Less submerged in an ocean of despair, Abi gives the reader space to float comfortably in the sunlight while reflecting with Jess from a safe distance. She will have you silently rooting for the heroine in whom we can all see ourselves while at the same time unearthing previously undiscovered gems of your own individuality.
So if you are suffering - or have ever suffered - a broken heart, if you've leaned heavily upon the patience of your friends, if you've beaten yourself up for feeling weak, for not getting over someone as quickly as you felt you should have, or if you've simply lost your way, then read this masterpiece of literary wizardry. And then pop it in that cupboard where you keep the painkillers, the plasters, the medicinal brandy and all your other healing balms in preparation for the next heartbreak, and I promise you it will be far easier to bear.'
Julie Spiller - author of The Cornubian"Life Is Yours" is an inspiring and uplifting story, told in a rather unique way. Abigail Yardimci really knows how to engage and capture the reader with short and snappy chapters that leave you wanting more and are, at times, deeply personal. I devoured the book in one weekend, and can't wait for the next installment. Abigail is a skilled and natural writer who makes the reader feel as though they're watching her stories unfold before their very eyes, I felt like I was sitting beside that fire myself!"

When Abigail Yardimci’s life fell apart she found another side of herself that had been trampled and beaten down trying always to be the person someone else saw her as. The way that she has found it best to share her journey is to put her own personal experience into a fictional story. This has allowed her to open up her own feelings through another character, sort of seeing things from the outside in.
When Jess came across Lindy on a Turkish beach at night they begin to talk and Jess knew that the best way to help Lindy was to tell her about her own life. Jess thought that her life was sorted. A man she loved, house and business but when she came home to an ‘I don’t know if this is what I want message’, from her fella it bowled her over. She crumpled unable to see any sort of future for herself.
Like in any break up there is that period of loss to adjust to. The why? anger, acceptance and letting go. Confidence is at its lowest and self-belief non-existant. Jess has her first breakthrough when follows her own aims in life, not a maybe outcome offered by her ex-partner.
When Jess goes to a business conference with her friend where they have to attend a number of sessions, one of them is a talk by a self-help mentor but what she thought it would be like and how it was just amazed her. The change in Jess and her friend began straight away. The tone of the story changed as with simple changes and stepping back and looking at a situation from a positive perspective, putting her more in control of her life and the direction it was going.
Jess began a challenge of 100 days of positive action. A brilliant concept. This was a fabulous book to read then look at the changes that I could make in my life, finding positive solutions rather than frustrations. I loved that the author introduced these methods through a story that myself, and I am sure a lot of other readers can relate to their own lives.
I wish to thank the author for an e-copy of this book which I have reviewed honestly.

This is a first of a three part trilogy and I was so thrilled to interview Abi for my radio show earlier this year. This is a story of a young lady who meets another on a sandy beach in Turkey as she goes from her story of heartache and getting herself back on track with some help along the way. I love the cleverness of how useful illustrations make this story come alive. It’s a short story but one I will be more than happy to get reading the trilogy. Can’t wait for part 2

Thank you to Abi for inviting me to the tour and for my copy of the book in return for a fair and honest review.

This great little book could not have come along at a more appropriate time. A time when I am looking at changes in my own life to find that elusive balance. I could not put it down, I loved Jess and was desperate to find out what happens after  her relationship with Jack breaks down.

I loved Abigail's writing it was warm and accessible and made me feel like I really knew Jess. Although it's a novel it felt like a memoir with the added bonus of the self help angle. I thought that Jess's notebook is a great idea and aren't we all guilty of comparing ourselves to others ?

I also really enjoyed reading about the strong female friendships and support Jess had from her friends.

Thank you I really really loved it. I can not wait to read the other two books in the trilogy to find out what happens to Jess, I can only guess that it will be exciting.

I’m fascinated with author Abigail Yardimci's mindfulness and creative coaching business, so when I had the opportunity to read her debut romance novel I jumped at the chance (even though it’s not my preferred genre), as there was the promise of a self-help element to the story.

It’s not often you get instructions on how to read a fictional novel, but I loved this part as I could fully resonate with Yardimci’s notes on putting yourself into the shoes of a fictional character to tell your story. When we worked on memoir at my creative writing class we told the same story in two ways – as a memoir and as a fictional tale. It was hugely cathartic to write about the challenges of life from the perspective of a character; as if we’d stepped outside the pain to tell the story, and I liked this short introduction in Life is Yours. It’s a fictional novel, but you’re aware of the real-life undertones.

We’re introduced to Lindy who is alone and upset on New Year’s Eve, wandering down the beach lost in thought. She finds Jess by a roaring bonfire and begins to chat. Jess opens up about her emotional upheaval and why she is out on the beach instead of celebrating the New Year.

The story flips between the casual conversation the girls have on the beach and Jess’s in-depth story. We follow Jess’s idyllic life until her boyfriend decides he no longer loves her, and then on to how she picks up the pieces. I liked the section where Jess discovers the beginning of a ‘whole new world’ by realising she has made her own friends separate from the ‘couple’ status where social gatherings were always in pairs. She goes through an initiation back to being the girl she once was – something I can fully relate to!

As the story continues, Jess’s work life is gathering momentum, and she attends a business conference where a self-help mentor is running one of the sessions. As a personal development author and holistic therapist, I had to chuckle of Jess’s assumptions about personal development courses and the ‘gurus’ who run them. It’s a prejudice I used to come across every day when I ran my holistic business. The way the author gently guides you into understanding what a mindful journey entails is done very well. Jess is introduced to 100 days of positive action (I take part in the 100 Happy Days challenge as often as I can). We see Jess begin to notice small changes and observations as she takes tiny steps back to being her true self.

As an avid journal fan, I could resonate with Jess’s notebook and loved the ‘reasons why being young and free and independent is bloody brilliant!’ entry. The hand-drawn images added a nice touch (and I’ll be stealing a few prompts for my gratitude journal!).

Life is Yours is a sweet novel about finding yourself, loving who you are, and embracing life in a mindful and authentic way. Even though romance isn’t my usual genre to read, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend.

Check out my detailed takeaways and author interview on my book blog, Armed with A Book!

We face so may difficult situations in life but possibly the one we do not plan to come up with a Plan B for is related to the person we are going to spend our lives with. Because the person was decided for the rest of our lives. But existence can be made cruel by one decision. In Life is Yours, we meet Lindy who is struggling with her demons. Wanting to be by herself while on vacation with her family, she escapes to a beach and finds warmth and welcome in a fire made by Jess. Hence begins a new friendship, as Jess recounts a captivating story about how she arrived from her home to this beach in Turkey.

There is love, friendship, betrayal and so much more in this novel, and I loved the support that Jess’ family and friends offered to her when she needed it the most, how patient they were as she tried to stand up on her own two feet again when Jack, the one she was supposed to spend the rest of her life with, left her lonely.

A story about strong friendships, finding one’s purpose anew and leaning on the ones we care about, Life is Yours is a must-read. It will warm you up like sitting next to a fireplace as it snows outside. 🙂

What a fantastic book.
I loved Abi’s writing style. It is so clever. This is a fiction book but the way it is written it is easy to forget this and think this is an autobiography or a self help guide. The short punchy chapters made you want to keep reading.
I really loved the main character Jess. I wanted to know how her life progressed after the trauma of her break up with Jack.
I can’t wait to read the next book in the series to find out which path Jess’s life goes.
A great book which I would highly recommend.

Wow Abi Yardimci...I’ve just today finished reading life is yours!! What a book...
I’m actually devastated it’s finished. I’ve stretched it out as much as humanly possible, as I have loved reading it and kept looking forward to it every bath time. Then I got all excited again when I realised it’s a trilogy 😍
You are so talented and I’m really proud to say you are my friend!
Well done xx

I am not normally one to read women’s fiction, but I was intrigued when Life is Yours crossed my review desk. So, I gave it a go and was pleasantly surprised.

1. Thoughts on the plot
This book follows Jess as she tells her story of overcoming heartbreak. She and her fiance broke up after seven years of being together, and after that nothing seemed to quite go right with work or her emotions. But she worked and pushed through it to overcome the pain.
In general, I thought the plot was good. A person learning to continue on through grief and pain is a good topic because it’s so relatable. However, I will say that some of the “learning points” that were sprinkled throughout the book, where Jess made significant progress or changed her mental picture dramatically, were very obvious, almost to the point of taking me out of the story. It felt like a textbook for thinking positive rather than a fictional story, which is fine if this were a guidebook, but feels a bit much for a fictionalised depiction of events.

2. Thoughts on the characters
I liked the characters in this book. I think they felt very real, perhaps because they were going through such real circumstances. I think that Jess was really the primary focus, and so a lot of the secondary characters didn’t have quite as much depth or development, but as this was a first person pov story, and the events really revolved around her, that is perfectly fine. I didn’t feel like I was missing a whole lot.
I will say that Jack didn’t feel like a great person from the beginning, just because of the way that Jess was thinking about him and orienting her life around him. I know that hindsight, and being outside of the relationship can grant clarity, but I really didn’t get why she was so desperate to get back with him, as he seemed very controlling.

3. Favourite part
Taking back the pendants. Can say no more because of spoilers.

4. Critique
My main critique for this book is what I mentioned in section one. The lessons felt very forced, very much straight out of a textbook, and almost unnatural in terms of Jess’ character development. Granted, I’m not massively familiar with women’s fiction, so I don’t know if this is normal, but it really took me out of the story.

Overall, I would say that Life is Yours was a good book about overcoming heartbreak and grief, and living life to the fullest.

I adored this beautifully written and utterly engaging story of a woman's journey back from the brink after the rug is well and truly pulled from under her feet.
Jess felt so real to me. I could imagine sitting in a bar with her somewhere — perhaps Turkey — and listening to her talk about her life and the changes she needs to make but the fear of making the wrong decisions. Instead, she sits by a fire and confides in Lindy who doesn't play a major role but I imagine more will be revealed in the subsequent books.
A sign of a great read for me is when I highlight lines that stand out. And there was a lot of highlighting!
But now my life was falling apart at the seams, I didn't give a flying shit if we recruited the Loch Ness Monster.
The nothingness sneaked out the back door and the emotions slammed through the front.
But as long as I could recall the brilliant shine of a diamond caught in the pool of my own tear, I knew I could do what I needed to do.
Demir, who we immediately tagged as a gangster on account of his pointy shoes, stiff black suits and hair styled so rock hard it could have maimed a low-flying bird.

I've been struggling to read a lot recently, but this book gave me all the feels. Highly recommended.

A great read which charts Jess'recovery from heartbreak after the end of a long and trusted relationship. It brings back memories of the ups and downs and the whole process which so many people have experienced once in their lifetime. It's also a story of the years post university when we're struggling with life choices; career, where to live, relationships while all the time balancing a social life and time spent with family and friends. But there's more as skillfully woven through the narrative are some tools and techniques which help Jess decide what she wants to do with her life. These can be followed by the reader and may help give clarity about our own life trajectory. It ends as Jess is about to go away on holiday so I'm keen to get onto the next book to find out what happens.

It's written in a clear, crisp style with a good balance of dialogue and description and there are some great observations about people, including some amusing one liners.

This book was very compelling - I sat down and read it in one sitting - and I love a book that draws me in. It is one of a trilogy and although there is a story arc, it did feel a bit like unfinished business at the end and of course we really have only crumbs of Lindy’s story. The change from first person when the MC (Jess) is narrating her story to third person when Jess and Lindy were on the beach together threw me a bit, but I can understand why. The sections detailing Jess’s heart-break I thought were the best I’ve ever read about how tumultuous the ending of a relationship can be and read very true to life. I found the mindfulness/self-help sections a bit tedious (I’m a coach so maybe that didn’t help) and overdone. Will
I read the next part? Probably on a day when I’m craving a bit of comforting chick-lit, yes!

An exquisitely written book - the writing comes across as effortless - which, as I'm sure you know, has meant that an awful lot of love and hard work has gone in to creating this book. This shines through the pages and meant that I couldn't put it down. The story is uplifting, and contains wonderful advice on how best to live life - advice that I have taken to heart and have been acting on since I read the book. Thank you, Abi.
