The ghettos of Brazil are crawling with street kids. They have nothing, and are forced into lives of crime in order to get enough to eat. Their life expectancies are short, not least because the Brazilian authorities allow paramilitaries to shoot them like rats. But it's with the street kids of Rio de Janeiro that the cadets must become embedded. Some of these kids have been recruited by the cartels. The cartels are causing untold misery, both in Brazil and on the streets of the UK. The cadets must befriend the cartel kids in the hope that they will lead them into the heart of the drug lords' empire. But when you head into the lion's den, you must expect to be bitten. The cartel chiefs are the most ruthless people in the world, and they do not take kindly to the infiltration of their secret, violent world . . .
Colin Armstrong (b. 1961), usually known by the pen-name Chris Ryan, is a British author, television presenter, security consultant and former Special Air Service sergeant. After the publication of fellow patrol member Andy McNab's Bravo Two Zero in 1993, Ryan published his own account of his experiences during the Bravo Two Zero mission in 1995, entitled The One That Got Away. Since retiring from the British Army Ryan has published several fiction and non-fiction books, including Strike Back, which was subsequently adapted into a television series for Sky 1, and co-created the ITV action series Ultimate Force. He has also presented or appeared in numerous television documentaries connected to the military or law enforcement.
Entertaining, supremely violent thriller. There's a strong ring of truth to the military action, which puts this firmly in the mature readers category - definitely not for sensitive kids or those under 10-12. Would be a good one for reluctant teens.
I was a bit sceptical about reading a short story about teenagers in a potential war story but I couldn't put this book down it was action from start to finish and very enjoyable I hadn't read anything for a long while from Chris Ryan and thoroughly enjoyed this story keep up the good work Chris
It only occurred to me right at the end that this whole book happens in one night, and yet it was very eventful. Preferred some of the previous books more but im interested to see where the series goes next. I like that they’re never in the same place twice and that every mission is unique. I’m curious whether the next book will go any further with the romance plot.
Great action, story hangs together well and is consistently exciting. Id actually have preferred for any relationship development to be platonic and focused on the brothers/sisters in arms vibe than a romance, but I do think Max and Abby would be cute together. Woody and Angel have great chemistry. I know this is focused on the kids, but I hope we get to see more of them in action .

Another great story in the Special Forces Cadets series.Lots of action and a story that moves along at a very fast pace and keeps you gripped from start to finish. More please
If you like action thrillers coupled with incredible, compelling characters to root for, I highly recommend this book-- scratch that --this series! Very fast paced and exciting read that makes you want more.
Love the different settings each book does have, makes it even more interesting and tense, especially in the dodgy parts of a country with high risk situations.
