The author just reinvented Sasaki Kojiro to make this battle with Poseidon work, and it is something that can only be done in the realm of shonen battle manga. This was an awesome battle, I can't wait to see how it ends in the next volume.
This one was epic and it's basically starts off with the mind battle between Poseidon and Kojiro and we get the formers backstory first with his brother Adamas and how he became the fiercest of God's then and then it's the stuff with Kojiro and his story was so awesome. How he was the ultimate loser but reached the top because of them and his battle with Poseidon is one for the ages. Seriously it's so well done.
The art is freaking insane particularly the scene where they battle finally. And the ending wow.
The stakes of this manga are getting higher and higher and it's becoming too good.
Not extraordinary but it was pretty good overall. The entirety of the book is dedicated to the fight between Sasaki and Poseidon. Actually, we learn more of these men thanks to flashbacks. Poseidon is cruel and never lost a fight and sees himself as a perfect being. On the other hand, Sasaki fought a lot of famous swordsmen including Miyamoto Musashi and he lost every single fight. Both Sasaki's power and backstory are super interesting in my opinion. I am really hyped about the "actual" fight and really rooting for Sasaki to win this one.
these characters are so interesting and Poseidon is just so FINE. but i love the idea of this powerful god going against a human who is the “biggest loser ever.” it’s so fun and the art style still is great and some great panels throughout!!
Something that's becoming more and more apparent is the authors' writing ability to make you truly care and root for a character via its personality and its history as depicted by them. Taking this into account, I absolutely adored Kojiro. He's the second-best character of the series so far and another GOD.
This has definitely been said before about the series, but each battle has a clash of ideals or opposing views that enrich the fight as a whole. So, when it comes to this one, I love that the approach they took was that of perfection vs evolution; Poseidon is deemed as the most "perfect" of the gods, that is, he who represents the ideals that make them "superior" to everyone else, meanwhile, Kojiro is deemed as the most powerful loser of all time, because he never won a battle in his life. Yet, what makes Kojiro such an incredible character is not only his undeniable optimism and charisma, but his desire to continuously evolve/improve himself after each one of his defeats. It's his desire to keep pushing despite what people think of him that is truly worth praising.
So, when these two collide in the battle, it paves the way to what I believe is the amalgamation of what the previous fights were all about. The gods, perfect and powerful, vs the humans, flawed but constantly improving. Yep, another epic fight.
Loved this volume and I love what they did here in regard to Kojiro and Poseidon. Learning the back story of each was equally interesting and the bout itself is really tense, though I enjoyed the previous two fights this one had me really rooting for Kojiro because of the excellent characterization here as “History’s Greatest Loser”. I can’t wait to read volume 5.
The Poseidon vs Sasaki Kojiro battle is my absolute favourite so far. The artstyle was gorgeous since the beginning of course but now IT SEEMED EVEN BETTER? Is that possible when the art is so perfect already?? Some panels looked like paintings, they drew you in and could not stop staring! This manga deserves a well made anime adaptation, there are only 30ish chapters out but it is already magnificent. Hercules vs Jack the Ripper next? That is going to be a wild ride~
Chapter 15: Most couldn't tell that in the short time since the round began Sasaki Kojiro had died 18 times already!
Chapter 15: One of the 13 Olympian gods was killed by Poseidon. The God's name was Adamas. Adamas was Zeus and Poseidon's older brother.
Chapter 15: Gods don't team up. Gods don't scheme. Gods fon't rely on anyone else. That is how a god should be. We're perfect from the word go.
Chapter 15: The moment the brothers looked into each other's eyes Adamas' life ended.
Chapter 15: If he says Adamas never existed then we acknowledge that as truth. No one can object. He won't allow it. That's the scariest bit, don't you think? Yeah... That's what makes him more god-like than any of us!
Chapter 16: The Greatest Loser
Chapter 16: Sasaki Kojiro never once won a battle in his entire life.
Chapter 16: Kojiro sought learning not in the dojo but in nature. Seaking a means to victory, continuing to learn on his own after each loss. Those were Kojiro's talents. Little is known of Kojiro's travels after he left Toda Seigen's dojo. Very few historical records of his journeys remain. But one thing is certain: Sasaki Kojiro continued to be defeated time and time again. Seeking stronger and stronger oppenents. Like the dry land thirsting for water, Kojiro sought oppenents against whom he knew he stood no chance and kept losing. Why does history not speak of Sasaki Kojiro until that day on Ganryu island? The only reason is he kept losing as he strove to become the ultimate swordsman! And that is how History's Greatest Loser was born!
Chapter 16: There's no backing away from this fight. I can't run. If I do, I'll be dishonoring everyone and everything that paved the way for me. Everything that become my flesh and blood. That would be unacceptable!
Chapter 16: You've finally met my gaze young one.
Chapter 17: Mr.God of the seas, you may be a deity but don't take Sasaki lightly! The summit we set out to reach is higher than you can imagine!
Chapter 17:
Chapter 17: Senju Muso, The Unmatched Anticipation of a Thousand Moves!
Chapter 17:
Chapter 18: Can't you just accept the adulation of your peers? Peers...? Gods don't team up. Gods don't scheme. Gods fon't rely on anyone else. That is how a god should be. We're perfect from the word go. We don't need peers. So that's what is to be a god, eh? That sounds awfully lonely. Die!
Chapter 18: Not even a fellow god can fathom the abyss that is the God of the Seas.
Chapter 18: Sasaki Kojiro's ability was already beyond that of a normal human. It bordered on divine. But unfortunately his opponent was Poseidon.
Chapter 18: I concede. That's what I'd like to say. But this time I can't Just like at Ganryu island. Isn't that right, Musashi?
Chapter 18: If I quit now, I'll regret it for the rest of my life! Sasaki, Let's kill each other to our hearts' content! It would be an honor!
Chapter 18:
Chapter 18: Hey, Mr.God of the Seas, can I ask you something? Have you ever been practicing your swing and realized that dawn had already broken? Have you ever shed a tear of gratitude for those who helped you become stronger? Have you ever felt a close kinship with someone you fought to the death? Oh, forget it. I'm sorry I asked. There's no way you ever have. This sword holds the history of the hearts of foolish men. I can't lose to someone who's never borne any spirit but his own!
Penguasa Dunia Bawah?
Kemudian karater Sasaki Kojiro sebenarnya menarik, tapi entah kenapa aku merasa kalau karakternya lebih banyak mendapatkan sorotan ketimbang dua wakil manusia sebelumnya.
Wyraźnie jednak twórca pozwala sobie ją trochę złagodzić, wrzucając do historii sporo retrospekcji z przeszłości Sasakiego i Posejdona.
Poseidon's history has been depicted to show how strong he is and how he with a single strike killed his own elder brother Adamas, the God of Conquest. Along with that Kojiro Sasaki has been the lover who never won a sword fight since he used to concede always. Then he used to think by simulation as to how to defeat the opponent whom he conceded. Once he bettered himself, he used to look for the next fighter to continue the same cycle. He has anticipated most of Poseidon's moves and when Poseidon moves to fight him, everyone is shocked as he never moves. But Sasaki anticipates all his moves and dodges them easily. Last Poseidon finally manages to cut the side of Sasaki and break his blade where Valkyrie Hrist is. But Sasaki does a Re Volund. Excited to read further.

This volume continues with the fight between Poseidon and Kojiro. We get more backstory about Kojiro - which is on,y very loosely based on history/lore (the swordsmen he met are ones he met in real life but he actually fought them). The way they showed him training did lead to the fighting style used in the fight so at least there was a point to it in the end. They also threw in a scene in the fight where he used a technique he was actually known for. The art remains very good and the fight scenes for the most part are easy to follow. I was however very confused with the thing with the sword(s) at the end - I hope it’s explained more in the next volume.
Is this gonna be humanity’s first dub? My least favourite character so far, but I still like him, it’s only coz I care most about people I’ve heard about, like Thor, Adam, Poseidon, Loki, Jack the Ripper, oden, Buddha and any of the other Greek gods. Jack the Ripper fight is gonna be amazing. How has Jesus or god not shown up yet when Adams in it, hope they make an appearance.
Personajes sensacionales.
This was by far and away my favorite volume so far. Poseidon feels like the most threatening god we've seen, and Sasaki Kojiro is my favorite of the humans to face them. This volume is action packed, and Kojiro's technique is the really cool both conceptually, and in practice. I've been slowly warming up to this series, but this volume just won a lot of goodwill from me. Spectacular.
I love the way Umemura Sensei depicted Sasaki Kojiro. People usually only knew him as the man who lost the duel with Miyamoto Musashi. Not more than that.
But one thing I regret. there is no such things as Adamas, can not find it anywhere. Maybe Umemura sensei need a reason to make Poseidon looks evil.
