Over one hundred years ago, a group of witches, escaping a second wave of Witch Trials made their way from New England to Whitewater, Wisconsin, known as Second Salem. Others, seeking knowledge in spiritualism and the occult, also made their way to the city and, through their ignorance, unleashed an evil entity poised to destroy the city. Three sisters, the Willoughby Witches, created an incantation strong enough to ensnare the demon. But, magic requires payment and so the sisters sacrificed themselves to keep their city and their family safe. Now, 120 years later, the incantation is at its end and the demon grows stronger every day. Three sisters, three witches, know that now is the time for them to step up and face the creature their ancestors faced and sacrifice whatever they need in order to keep Whitewater safe. Lord Henry McDermott, college professor, anthropologist, and archeologist has yearned to learn more about the legend of the Willoughby Witches. Taking the summer off to research the folklore, Henry discovers that there is more waiting for him in Whitewater than just a story. More than just the beautiful woman who finds him after his accident. And more than data and details. There is, in fact, magic.

I came across this book when I was searching for narrators whose last names begin with 'O' for my A-Z Narrator Reading Challenge.
I wasn't sure what to expect, but really enjoyed my first reading/listening experience with author, Terri Reid, and narrator, Traci Odom. It was a fun, magic-filled tale with wonderful, likeable characters and an interesting storyline that caught my attention and often made me smile and/or chuckle along the way.
I will say that things moved just a touch quickly for Rowan and her love interest , but in light of all that comes to pass, I was able to flow with that because I felt that they were totally meant to be and liked them together.
The second book in the series just came out this month (12/13/18) and I'm looking forward to reading (or hopefully listening to) further adventures in Hazel's Heart : The Willoughby Witches.
(Hazel's a hoot!)
Since there are three daughters (Rowan, Hazel, & Catalpa, otherwise known as Cat) in this series, I assume that those of us who are enjoying and/or interested in this ongoing tale will have to wait for at least one more book to come.
Unless, Agnes, their mother, gets her own love story too?
I guess we'll have to wait and see where the author takes us... *smile*["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I, like almost every other reviewer on here, loved Terri Reid's Mary O'Reilly series. As a matter of fact, I like almost everyone else, have read all of the spin off series that go with the O'Reilly family...or anything that may have Ian in it. Because...for a fictional character, he is definitely swoon worthy.
I was really excited about this series because of my love for Ms. Reid's ability to make you fall in love with the characters she writes about. She is the kind of author that people cling to, because she is such a great talent when it comes to conversation and character building. You can always see the characters in your mind, hear their voices...and even if the story is not the best, you still can't help but enjoy it, because it's like coming home to your family.
The Willoughby Witches, I feel, will be very similar in feeling. When I first started the O'Reilly books, I was not overly crazy about the first or the second. But intrigued enough to read the 3rd. 20+books later, I was thrilled to see her just give us a short story after the last big Mary book.
I didn't NOT like this book, because I did. It was just the idea of getting to know new characters and having to find their place in your mind, having to build the characters up, giving them life in my mind. The story is good, not great thus far, but good. But I can already tell I'm going to get sucked in yet again. I love the sisters and love how they play off of each other. I love love love the mother....and I know that I will gain respect for the love interest. BUT, it did feel rushed to me. (Even though I get the idea of, been going on forever)....
I've read other series with sister witches, and I found myself wanting to scream and pull my hair out at how annoying the sisters were, but I feel like these were believable in their character's conversation and their flaws.
I look forward to reading more and moving my 3.5 stars up to 5 because I know as the series goes on, I will. Terri Reid, somehow became one of my favorite authors...I'm not sure how but I lvoe that she did. And I'm even more thrilled that I can find her books on the Kindle Unlimited program, so they are always quick to get for me.
I seriously snorted at the last line...lol Who is Donovan kidding!!!!!!
So yes I am a huge Terri Reid fan and I was excited about this new series and it was worth the wait Rowan's Responsibility was an amazing and inspired read.
Such a great story, lots of very interesting Witchcraft, amazing characters and a storyline I just love. I can't wait for the next book it promises to be even better than the first.
I love this author and I want more!!! I feel like every time I finish a book i am searching for the next one.... This story has me ready for the next in the series to see what's next for the sisters. Terri creates characters that you can see them in your mind so as you read you can picture exactly what they look like. She engages you in the story line to the point you look at where your at and it's almost over!!! Wait, what? I want more
Terri Reid does it again. From the first paragraph, she weaves a tale like the master storyteller she is and makes me lose myself in the pages of her book. When my emotions become engaged and I laugh out loud or shed a tear, I give a 5 star rating. I cannot wait for the next book in this series.
What a remarkable new tale from Terri Reid! The storyline of the Willoughby sisters is compelling and the characters are well written and genuine. This was definitely a book that was difficult to put down. It keeps the reader turning the pages from start to finish. The stage is set for more spell binding books to come and I look forward to the rest of the tale!
Terri Reid is a fantastic storyteller. Once again she weaves a magical tale. The characters are whole and fully fleshed and we are invited into their world to be entertained and enthralled. Rowan along with her sisters Hazel and Catalpa and their mother Agnes are ready to protect and strengthen the spell that bound evil one hundred twenty years ago, they are looking for the key that will allow them to find the necessary steps to protect their world and ours. Could Professor Henry be that key? He and Rowan sense an age old connection, will Henry understand it in time? There is another coven that is working to bring that evil back and they are willing to spill blood to insure that happens. Read so late into the night, I didn’t want to leave the]is review last night. I couldn’t wait to get started on Hazel’s Heart, book 2 in the series.
Anything from that author, and I can be certain I am not disappointed. Descended from the Willoughby Witches, three sisters and their mother have to fulfil a prophecy and fight the evil that was only temporarily (well 120 years to be exact) held at bay. The first to show her mettle is Rowan, with the help of her sisters and her mother of course, and, so it seems, the help of Henry, an English professor who wants to study the legend of the Willoughby Witches, and gets involved. However, is Henry really what he seems to be? Brilliantly told, fast paced, with lots of humour and quirky protagonists, and a very good plot. The only bad thing about this book was that it ended too quickly!
As is usual with Terri Reid, I am captivated by this new avenue of writing. I will be on to the next Wiioughby adventure soon (after I finish this review)! Terri has been a part of my life since the first time I picked up the 1st Mary O'Reilly book; and has been my solace and comfort through many hard times. Her characters are believable and keep me coming back for more.
I have only one complaint and that's not really a complaint but frustration! If your a series, don't leave the reader dangling at the end with out even a date of when the next book is expected to be released. I gave this 5 stars because I enjoyed it that much. I don't think it should cost the book a penalty because I'm frustrated about when I can pick up the next book.
I loved Terri Reid's Mary O'Reilly ghost series as it was such an unusual mix of paranormal suspense, romance and humor that was a cut above other books in the genre. I enjoyed reading this book as it was well written and cohesive, moved quickly with several layers that popped. But it was missing the just-off-beat magic the other books had that I can't quite pinpoint. Still, very worth reading.
Another hit series from Terri Reid! I am hooked! Can't wait to continue on this journey! Terri has such a touch for pulling you right in her stories. It doesn't feel like I'm reading g a book, it's like I'm living this right along with the Willoughby's! Love, laughter, fear, excitement, and always an element of surprise! On to book 2!
The Willoughby sisters are powerful witches that fall the good path. They don't harm others. Henry is researching the Willoughby story. He will learn more about himself and what's been hidden from him. It's hard for them all to protect themselves by doing no harm when the bad guys are willing to even kill.
How did I miss this series by Terri Reid!? I love her Mary O’Reilly series. While looking to see if there was a new one I found The Willoughby Witches series!
Ms. Reid did not fail in bring forth a brilliant book! The characters are beautifully developed as is her storyline.
I greatly enjoyed this book. Not only is it witchy, but it has a lot of twists and turns and surprises. In addition, it takes place in Wisconsin (Whitewater to be exact) - a place near and dear to my heart. I will be reading the rest in the series and checking out the rest of this author's books.
Hands down this is a 5 star rating. Loved all the characters and can't wait for the next book to continue the journey with the Willoughby witches. Terri Reid never disappoints me with her book and this was another excellent read, hands down.
What a great read. Who don't like a love story with a little magic thrown in? As always this author knocks it out of the park with the story line and characters who can cheer for I wanna read more about these characters.
I was surfing for a book and came upon this one. I've read all of the Mary O'Reilly books and love them dearly so I thought I'd give it a chance. And if course now I can't wait for the next one!
I didn't expect this kind of story from Terri Reed. I enjoy all her writings so I thought I would try this one. I loved It! Great characters, humor and mystery. I hope there is a book 2. Well done Terri!
I started this book unsure of how I would like it. I was pleasantly surprised! The book is fantastic. The content feels accurate and relevant, and I love the characters and the plot line. I am about to dive into book 2.
The story lacks substance. A quick & easy read as long as you don't get sidelined by typical errors, of which there are MANY. I found the ending anticlimactic and dull.
I loved this story of witches and past generations of magical people! The story of good vs. evil is the oldest we read about and this story is a really good beginning to a series of adventures and love!
Good story and easy read. I became addicted very quickly, my only complaint is that it felt rushed near the end and some much happened so fast that I felt pacing was off, however I am excited to see where this series goes. Good not great but I will be sticking around until the end.
Have read all of Terri Reid's books and check monthly for any more of her books. Every chance I get I recommend her books. Her description s and characters are so real and fun to read about. Thank you for so much pleasure.
I loved reading Roman’s Responsibly, I dived in & got hooked straight away. The characters are so inviting you just wish you could jump in the book to meet them. I can’t wait to carry on with The Willoughby Witches series!!!!
Good v Evil. Love, new and old and everlasting. Legend and truth. A nice beginning for a series with wonderful things interwoven as we meet the main characters. It will be a great journey to follow.
The book held my interest, however I was disappointed with the ending. I felt as though it was rushed and abrupt. Also I am so disappointed with the errors I find when reading Ms. Reid’s books. There were several in this one. The one that stands out is “pain” instead of “pane”.
Fun new cozy series by Terri Reid. I loved her 20 book Mary O’Reilly paranormal series and when I saw this series on KU I knew it was a must read. TR just makes you fall in love with her characters and brings fun to all her books.
