O. Hallesby was one of Norway's leading Christian teachers and devotional writers. He played a leading role in the church's opposition to the Nazis and was confined to a concentration camp for two years. His writings, coming from a mind and heart attuned to God, continue to speak to Christians today. In simple, personal terms this book shows the way through from skepticism and doubt to a firm Christian faith.
This book is well written (and my edition in English seems to be well translated). The author never comes right out and states any intention to interpret some of Kierkegaard's views in a way that is more accessible to the typical reader, but that is pretty much what this book does. The book is very clear and very easy to read, and it explains some of the mysterious or the mystical within Christianity, at the same time encouraging the unbelieving reader to become a believer.
This little book was one of the most comforting Anders pastoral books I’ve ever read. If you struggle with assurance of salvation or your identity in Christ, I can’t recommend this book enough.
This was not the book that had been recommended to me. Perhaps I was suppose to read the same titled books, but by a different author. This book is for people that doubt Christianity. But then it got creepy by calling on the necessity for a person to repent. I got it for free, so no big loss.
