Christie Watson is back, and once again has inserted herself into a mystery/murder even though she knows the potential repercussions of becoming involved. Readers are reintroduced to some of the town folk who reside in Sleepy Creek, as well as meet a few new ones.
Another person has been murdered, and Christie has (seemingly) no choice but to get involved, especially since her best friend Griz is related to one of the suspects. Of course, the Burger Bar is a central spot in the book, a jumping-off point where Christie can gather information venturing out to interview other suspects. The background ambience of small-town living works well for author Rosie A. Point, and she works the everyone-know-everyone-in-town aspect which makes it easy for Christie to add clues to her growing pile.
The ending was a bit off-kilter for me. The big reveal came, and though Ms. Point explained everything, there was nothing throughout the book to give an indication that perhaps this person was the murderer. I enjoy trying to figure out the case before the police or detective, and not being given any clues to figure out what happened was disappointing (and truth be told, most times I don’t figure it out, and I gain greater respect for an author who can leave a clue lying in plain sight yet mask its significance until the very end).
Regardless, this story is buttoned a little tighter than the author’s first offering, and Christie is an enjoyable narrator. She is sassy without being snarky, someone that anybody wouldn’t mind sharing her company over a cup of coffee. Or a burger. Four stars.
My thanks to the author for an advance complimentary ebook of this title.
Christie Watson was a Boston Homicide Detective. She was given a sabbatical and must stay out of trouble while she is on it. Christie has returned to her hometown in Sleepy Creek, Ohio. She is staying at her best friend, Griselda Lewis home. Her best friend runs Griselda’s Burger Bar plus is owner of a fat cat named Curly Fries. Christie is working at the Burger Bar which she discovers is the gossip center for information going on around the town. When Griselda’s relative is arrested for murder, Christie disregards her stay out of trouble option and jumps right into investigating the situation. What a complex, uniquely plotted, though provoking murder mystery!!! The cast consists of cleverly, drawn up, well defined, quirky and very interesting characters. Murder, robbery, antiques, suspense, intrigue plus deliciously described food. Add a quirky fur baby to the mix for a fast paced read. This is book # 2 in the Sleepy Creek Cozy Mysteries series. It can be read as a stand alone. I volunteered to read The Double Cheese Burger Murder. Thanks to the author for the opportunity. My opinion is voluntary and is my own.
I am loving the characters in this series! Christie just can't let a mystery go unsolved as she must figure out the answers and her best friend Grizz can't let Christie solve alone! The two elderly twins are an absolute hoot! The banter is witty and fun while the mystery is intriguing and interesting to attempt to untangle. These are fast reading stories that fly right by in a fun filled flash! This is book 2 in the series and takes place a week after in the timeline where the first book left off. I'm curious as to how the author will work it out that Christie solves the case that brought her to her old hometown in the first place and how she will end up getting Christie's character to stay in Sleepy Creek rather than returning to her big city job as a homicide detective. If you are looking for a fun mystery to read with a strong main character then I definitely recommend picking up this series, but starting with the first one would definitely be my recommendation as the stories build the timeline and the help define the characters even more.
This is the second book in the Burger Bar series. When a local artist is murdered and Christie's best friend Griz's cousin is the main suspect, she risks her career as a Boston detective to do some Southern sleuthing. Her job as a waitress at the Burger Bar provides an interesting side-job and allows her to return to her hometown while having her ear to the ground for information. The first person voice was a refreshing perspective and I enjoyed the light humor in both the dialogue and the characters themselves--with Detectives Cotton and Balle, elderly twins named for two southern states in addition to Griz's cousin Jerry Lee Lewis.
Overall, a pleasant cozy read--perfect for the pool or the beach. I had read the prior book so I knew the backstory about why she had returned to Sleepy Creek. References to her mother popped up and I wish more detail about them was added.
Thanks to the author for an advance review copy of this book. My review is voluntary.
Boston Detective Christie Watson had come to the small town of Sleepy Creek to get answers about her mother's murder and ended up investigating a murder that had connections to it. Still in town working at the Burger Bar with her boss and friend Griselda, she's drawn into another murder...one they actually witnessed. Griselda's cousin is the accused, but Christy wondered if he was the intended victim. Against the local police officer's direct orders, she does a bit of investigating on her own, because it just doesn't feel right. Along with Griz and a few friends, she snoops until she finds herself looking down the barrel of a gun. Thankfully she is rescued before it's too late and she's able to lay it out for the two local detectives, and get cousin Jerry Lee freed. I was offered the opportunity to read an ARC for my honest opinion. This is a fun cozy. It doesn't have offensive language or sex scenes and is suitable for any reader. The story moves along with plenty of humor and eclectic characters.
This was book 2, and it says its can be a stand alone, but at times I felt very lost. The writing was good, but the characters seem flat, and the book just seemed to drag. Not sure if its because I felt like I walked in in the middle of a conversation or what the issue was. This book just wasn't for me, but from the other reviews I read, I feel just like I just just have missed something. I'm sad I didn't like it more. 3 stars.
I LOVE THIS SERIES AND DEFINITELY WANT TO CONTINUE ON IN 2026!
SERIES PREMISE: In this series we follow Chris aka Christie Watson, a former detective from Boston who has been placed on forced sabatical and now moved back to her old home town of Sleepy Creek in Ohio. Taken in by her bestie Grisabella, aka Grizzy - Chris's new life involves working at Grizzy's Burger Bar along side her bestie and the chef, Jamacan Jarvis. Not to mention the quizzical cat Grizzy owns Curley Fries. In this book: When Grizzy's Cousin comes to town with an Antique box for the elderly sisters that run the antique store, no one knew the trouble it would cause. But when Haley, a local resident sticks her fingers into the box she's pricked by a needle and dies. What the heck is going on here?
THOUGHTS: I love this series. Granted the culinary side is nowhere near as fleshed out as I would like but I love Chris's bestie Grizzy. The characters and setting are a lot of fun and the mysteries are always intriguing! Can't wait to continue on in 2026!
After being suspended as a detective in Boston, Christie Watson is helping her best friend at her Burger Bar restaurant. All Christie has to do is stay out of police business and she’ll be reinstated. Unfortunately, even in the small town of Sleepy Creek, Christie can’t help getting involved in police investigations.
This time a local artist is murdered and Christie’s best friend’s cousin, Jerry Lee Lewis is the prime suspect. Christie agrees to help her best friend prove his innocence.
This is a cute, short cozy mystery series. It can be read in one sitting. The characters are lively and fun. The mystery keeps you guessing to the end.
I’m looking forward to reading more in this series.
I’ve been reading Rosie A. Point’s work now for five years and I’ve never gotten tired of it. After many series later and books I’ve read in those series, I wanted to try and finish the first series I ever started of hers, the Burger Bar Mysteries. And even though it’d been five years since I read The Fiesta Burger Murder, once I started reading this book, time just melted and I remembered how much I enjoyed the characters.
Missi absolutely cracks me up and makes me think of Sofia from the Golden Girls, that same sharp tongue and wisecracks, lol. Her sister could honestly be Rose from that same show too! Since Christie and Grizzy had witnessed a woman dying, Chris wanted to investigate even though she knew she could get in trouble with her boss in Boston. I was just as surprised as Christie at the whodunit reveal/showdown which was a good one. I’m planning not to let myself lose track of this series again since I wanna read the spin-off that came after it.
The Double Cheeseburger Murder by Rosie A. Point is the second in the Burger Bar Mystery Series. This novella pushes all the readers' buttons to come of as quirky but the reality is that it comes off as silly. It takes place in the small town of Sleepy Creek, which appears to be near Boston. The protagonist and head sleuth is Christie, who is on vacation from the Boston PD. Her expressed purpose is to investigate the murder of her mother, an investigation botched by the police, she believes. The reality it she is working in her friend, Griselda's, burger restaurant as a waitress. One very early morning, Gris' cousin, Jerry Lee Lewis, wakes the women up. He is in town to deliver a Civil War Traveling Wiring desk to a local antique store, the owners of which have purchased it from him. Said owners are the local elderly eccentrics, Missi (ssippi) and Virginia. When they deliver the desk, another local is in the store and examines it, surprising everyone when a hypodermic pops out, shoots her, and kills her. Jerry Lee runs; the police are called; the antique shore is swathed in police tape, and Christie starts her won investigation, despite being warned of by the local police.
The characters are one-dimensional and predictable. Gris' cat is named Curly Fries, for crying out loud. The characters, save the two police detectives and Gris, are caricatures, not even close to real. Christie jumps to quite a few wrong assumptions and solves the murder quite by accident. The murder is, again, accomplished by caricatures. It is an easy read but I am not sure it is worth it. Maybe you will like it better than I did.
I received a free ARC of The Double Cheeseburger Murder. All interpretations and opinions expressed herein are solely my own.
THE DOUBLE CHEESE BURGER MURDER by Rosie A. Point The Second Burger Bar Mystery
Christie Watson is getting the hang of small town living. Suspended from her job as a police detective, Christie has been serving time in her old hometown. Working as a waitress in her best friend's burger bar, she's learning to love the more relaxed atmosphere, as well as Jarvis's delectable burgers. A surprise visit from Jerry Lee Lewis, Grizzy's cousin the antiques dealer not the other one, leads to the death of a local and Christie's cop instincts kick in. Will she solve the case before the Sleepy Creek constabulary, will the local detectives arrest her for interfering, or will the killer find her first?
This second Burger Bar Mystery is a delightful bite. Although short, there are enough threads to keep it interesting and lots of viable suspects. I love that Christie is true to her profession and continues to keep Jerry Lee on her suspect list. Even though she is trying to prove he's innocent for Grizzy's sake, she's fully aware he may be the killer. I also appreciate the small touches of romance, not only Arthur and Grizzy, but the slow realization there may be something between Christie and Detective Balle, as long as she doesn't mistake those twirlings in her stomach as yearnings for another burger! A solid mystery, plenty of humor, and a feisty cat named Curly Fries all add flavor to this delicious mystery.
THE DOUBLE CHEESE BURGER MURDER is a quick fun read that has me hankering for a frosty milkshake and a double cheese burger!
From beginning to end this is a delightful cozy mystery. Characters Christine, Grizzy, Missi, Vee, Detectives Balle and Cotton are so well written that they quickly become people you want to know more about. Because of Rosie Point’s excellent writing you are caught up in the intrigue from the first paragraph and that carries you along from page to page. Getting to know some of the people in Sleepy Creek is easy but trying to determine the good guys from the bad guys is kind of difficult. The writing is so good that you can actually see the Burger Bar and almost taste those double cheese burgers and the thick milk shakes. Who would have thought this quaint little town would have so much going on. You will find yourself so involved in the book that you don’t realize how long you have been reading. This is the 2nd in the series and I have already picked up the 1st and will be getting all of them soon – I want to know what is happening in Sleepy Creek, has Christi found who killed her Mom and did she and Detective Balle ever start a relationship.
I really enjoyed this mystery that fits the definition of cozy mystery very well, other than the fact that the main character is technically a police officer, albeit on suspension. (Cozies traditionally have amateur sleuths as main characters.) It’s the second in a series, and most books in series are still stand-alones. I don’t know if it was just me, but I wasn’t quite understanding what all was going on—I could tell there were things I wasn’t quite getting. So I read the first book in the series before then completing this book—I enjoyed it much more that way. The writing is really good, though; the characters are interesting; the mystery itself was especially good. I’m eager to read more in this series. I was provided a free copy of this book, but these opinions are my own.
This series is definitely looking up. I really enjoyed this book and the way the characters are developing. They are sassy and have great personality shining through with a sense of small town camaraderie as well. The murder mystery was done well with the whodunnit in question up until the end for me. I'm looking forward to this series continuing and fingers crossed a little more starts happening with Christie and Balle.
This is the second book in the series and you just fall in love with the characters from the suspended Boston Police Detective to the elderly twins who banter back and forth like my grandmother and her sisters use to do. This is a fun cozy that kept me guessing. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was the perfect read for a warm summer day. The characters are quirky without being over the top and the mystery kept me guessing right to the end. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
This is a delightful Mystery! I love the setting and characters (along with their names). I would love to visit the town and eat at the burger bar! It kept me guessing until the end! I will be looking for the next book if the series!
Oh this “Burger Bar” installment was hilarious 😂‼️Somebody needs to hiring Curly Fries asap! What homicide detective wouldn’t benefit from an obnoxious feline foodie who’s intuitive, chunky and a night owl watch cat 🤭🤷🏾♀️‼️….the irony! Nevertheless, The Double Cheese Burger Murder A Burger Bar Mystery Book - Book 2 of 6 was an another intriguing reading adventure. However, I don’t see the correlation between “the burgers” & the murders other than a weekly menu specials or possibly the MacGyver approach to murder mystery investigations. ….“I held my breath and pressed my finger to the inside of the ring. It clicked against my thumb, and the gem on the front popped free on a tiny hinge. I lifted it and slipped out a tiny SD card from within, then closed the ring silently.” Okay 🤭🤨‼️
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this second installment of the Burger Bar mystery series. I thought I had it all figured out as to who the killer was, but I was wrong again! The book was fast-paced, as most of Ms. Point's books are. If you haven't read book #1 in this series, I would suggest you read it first. I think they will make more sense when they're read in order. Here's to a other good read from this very talented author!
Wonderful characters, a great plot with lots of unexpected twists, lots of good food to keep your appetite on high alert, and a good addicted fat cat that is totally against involuntary diets!
I got more and more invested in the town and the characters with this one. The humor was good. The mystery was good. There were quite a few twists and turns that I appreciated. I had a good time with this one.

First mystery with Rosie Point. Quite surprised; a very very good read. Easy to follow but the culprit responsible was one I never suspected. Have just gotten the second book in the series. If it's as good as the first Burger Bar Mystery I will be reading more of the series. Cudos to Rosie; great author. Would love to know the jalapeno topping recipe from the Caribbean Mon.
