R. Phoenix has an unhealthy fascination with contrasts: light and dark, heroes and villains, order and chaos. She believes that love can corrupt and power can redeem. Her muse is a sadomasochistic slave driver who thinks it's terribly amusing to give her the best ideas when she just got comfortable and warm in bed, and she passes on that torture to her readers. She also tries entirely too hard to be funny, and she mercilessly inflicts her terrible sense of humor upon anyone who speaks to her. She'd love it if you'd say hello!

You really gotta love Rai’s mind. 😁 I mean I don’t know about you but the sadist in me loved every single second reading about this twisted love story between Mateo and Devin. 😉 I always think R. Phoenix writes amazing stories but this one .. this one is definitely on another level. ❤️ I have always loved reading about keeping it in the family but a good twincest story with extreme sadism and array of kinks and fetishes? 🔥 Now you are definitely talking about my language! 😏😎

Devin and Mateo have always loved each other. And Devin thought they would always be together. So when Mateo announced that he intended to leave for college and left Devin behind, he knew he had to do something. If the only way he would forever have Mateo is to tie him, blindfold him and put him in a cage with a shock collar, so be it. Everything is fair and square in love and war. And it’s time Mateo knows nothing can ever separate the two of them .. not even Mateo himself.

Twisted, dark, erotic and simply delicious. 🔥🔥🔥 Love can turn into something ugly, obsessive and unhealthy real quick given the circumstances. And I’m not lobbying for Devin but I get why he did what he did. 🙂 I wish this was even longer because I would have loved to know what happens .. say .. a decade from now on. But this definitely ended on a happy note depending on which view you are looking from. 😅 I thoroughly enjoyed this short story and I’m hoping Rai will write more of these two. 💜

THIS IS NOT A ROMANCE! This is imprisonment, rape, and non-con. Heed any trigger or content warnings.

Another dark, twisted story from this author. I love that the stories I’ve read from R Phoenix so far give both sides of the story. We get both twins’ thoughts and actions. Everything is seemingly fine between the brothers until Mateo makes the firm decision to go to school. That’s when Devin snaps and does the unthinkable. It leaves Mateo wondering if he ever really knew his twin at all as Mateo is held captive and made to submit to Devin’s every whim.

Everything was moving along great here. We were getting insight into both their minds, we were seeing a part of Devin that maybe could be convinced to stop and we were seeing Mateo struggle with his feelings about the situation and about his brother. And then ….. the story just ended.
There was too much left open for me to be satisfied with the abrupt ending. I felt like we were still just at the start of the story and both men had too many things left unresolved. Sometimes an abrupt ending can work for me. The story that immediately comes to mind is Another Man's Treasure by Lisa Henry and JA Rock. Here it just felt unfinished and that made me sad and frustrated because I was so invested in the story. I wanted it finished, not made into a choose your own ending.

While I enjoyed what was there, I really just don’t know how to rate it because of that ending. I don’t know if there is more to come, but as it stands now that ending really didn’t work for me. I do like the author’s writing so I do see myself working my way through the rest of R Phoenix’s backlist.

Dark, twisted and so damn crazy!!! Why the hell didn't I know about this author before?!!

First of all, THIS IS NOT A ROMANCE. It's a dark erotica with non-con, twincest and many more kinks and fetishes that are pleasure for one while degradation for other. Devin is one evil bastard and he doesn't even know it. I am feeling for Mateo cuz he just wanted his freedom and what he got was.... horrifying. 💔 Oh my god!! It ended on a cliffhanger and I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
Definitely reading more of this author's work☠️

4 STARS cuz I think this managed to get me out of my reading slump!

Mateo was cute my only complaint is that he felt too easy to break. If he had more depth to him, it would have added a layer of complexity to his character. Making the story even more engrossing and engaging—something I felt it was lacking.

Devid reminds me of a child who received a new toy, only to start doubting whether it was truly the toy he wanted. At first, he was so excited, eager to try a bunch of different things— which he did, ask Mat's ass. But then, he began to miss the connection they once had.

I didn’t feel connected to any of them. Specifically, I didn’t feel the struggle that Mat should have experienced, given what he was enduring at the hands of his beloved brother. Instead of conveying that emotional depth, the monologues became a bit repetitive. Thank God we had dual pov; that was the saving grace!

As for Devid, he’s a psychopath. This was an amusing read.

Unexpected journey

I usually read blurbs and reviews before reading a , slightly , new to author but in this instance I went blind. And I am glad for it.

Brother Dear is a dark , edgy taboo that took me on an unexpected , a bit terrifying yet provocative and sexually explicit intense journey. And I enjoyed it.

Reading this novella size story will make some uncomfortable and will be a trigger for others , if that is you; move along, don't read this tale; you got lots of other options . It's always a choice.

However, if you do read it, do it with an open mind , a wide range , outside the box thinking mind.

Entertainingly messed up. A nice contrast between the twins, with the unhinged Devin and innocent Mateo. The dual POV worked for me here.

The writing style didn't work as much for me. Lots of trailing ellipses, one sentence impact paragraphs, and that lowered the overall feeling of ominousness. Got a little melodramatic at times.

There was some repetitiveness in internal monologues, especially of Devin that started to drag as well.

Still, overall, it was an intriguing read. Definitely needs the second book to finish out the story, as this doesn't even rate as a cliffhanger, just a book separation point.

This book wasn’t for me.

It’s a lot to take in everything Devin did to Mateo. It was all horrible.

The ending leaves off in a cliffhanger. I think it’s unnecessary to drag this whole thing out.
I won’t be reading the next book.

Genre: MM Erotica
Type: Standalone novella, book 1 of 2 from Brothers series
POV: Third Person
Rating:
3.25 Stars

Mateo made the decision to move away for college, ending the relationship with his twin brother Devin. But his choice would become his worst nightmare when Devin devised his own plan to keep them together.

This book pulled no punches and went straight for the kill. While I appreciated that, I’d love to see a bit more background on their relationship dynamic, which would help me feel more connected to the characters.

Why? He wanted to ask the question, but he didn’t dare speak the word aloud. Devin wouldn’t give him an answer anyway. Even if he did… it wouldn’t help him make sense of the monster his twin had become.

The plot was minimal and focused more on the erotic torture/revenge aspect. There were a variety of different kinks explored with figging being my favorite.

Brother Dear is a story of obsession and depravity. It would appeal to readers who enjoy kinky MM erotica.

Dark, taboo, short and a really enjoyable reading. You know me, dark and taboo are my weakness, so it wasn't a question that i'd love this book.

Devin and Mateo were interesting. The story was kinky, and I loved the things that Devin did to Teo. And I loved the mind games too. But i have two little things that bothers me - i totally could forget that they were twins, and it's a shame, because i want to enjoy my twincest to the fullest. I don't know why, tho, because the words twin and brother were there on the pages, but i couldn't feel the connection between them. And the other thing is, the love connection. It wasn't there at all. The feelings wasn't deep enough, and i couldn't feel them either. So while I really enjoyed reading the book, i couldn't love the characters and couldn't feel the connection toward them.

It was a good book and I recommend it if you too like dark and taboo stories :)

Brother Dear
By R. Phoenix

When Mateo decides it's time to leave his twin, Devin, and go to college Devin is furious his brother can forget him and their familial and sexual relationship so easily. In retaliation Devin kidnaps Mateo and makes him (in his words) his sex toy.

All I can really say is that it was dark. Especially in the end when there was no escape from Devin.

The book is in both twins POV. The angst level is medium.

I liked it. Just not love it. I liked Mateo and really hate Devin, but there was something about their relationship that just didn't get me to love it, as much as I love dark reads.

After being hurt by his brother’s decision to end their relationship, Devin is determined to keep Mateo exactly where he should be.

“Why? He didn’t think he’d ever know.”

In starting this taboo novella, I was expecting extreme measures, but I was left wanting more backstory about the relationship in order to feel just how hurt Devin was by Mateo. Also, it seemed unrealistic regarding certain elements.

The trigger warnings are so vast I don't know that I can even list them.

Rape, abuse, bondage, enemas, bathroom control, chastity, is there one for breaking another person's soul?

As awful as it was to read the dual POV, I found myself propelled forward to continue reading. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse for Mateo, it does. It always does. I want to see where the second book takes this because if I know this author and their writing, Mateo should have his chance to turn things around.

Heed the warnings! I wish I had done that beforehand. Not my type of book. This is dark with a side of pitch black. I would totally recommend this for fans of psychos and torturers.

Read this a few years ago. This was dark kink and obsession. Well written as it kept you reading, but an MC being caged up was difficult to read.

Don’t read this as a romance, it isn’t. You could read this as pure erotica — which it is very kinky, very dark, very intense. To me, this is more like a horror duology. Erotic horror, as we see how Devin spirals darker and darker and Mateo is trying his best to survive. I’ve read both books, but reading just this one, you have no idea where it will end up. How Phoenix intends to resolve it. Thankfully, the way she does is excellent.

Writing itself is amazing, as usual! Seriously, all her work is great and this is no different.

Learned a new term today: twincest. Self-descriptive I’d say. This one was truly disturbing to me. And ends on a cliffhanger too. The sex scenes are explicit but not sexy.

Mateo and Devin are twin brothers, close with one another, and they love each other dearly. Behind closed doors they've discovered another kind of love, one that involves the taboo of sleeping with each other.
Mateo is going to college soon and Devin doesn't want him to leave, but Mateo believes his twin will eventually get over it. It isn't like Mateo is leaving him forever. He never suspects that his younger twin brother would ever do anything to hurt him, but sadly his brother Devin does far more than hurt him.

Okay. Okay. This was an absolutely horrific, page turning read and I keep backspacing trying to figure out how to even describe my feelings. This isn't a romance, not of any kind, and there is no romantic feelings from the character Mateo towards his twin brother. He cares for him, feels terror and maybe even guilt for Devin's direction of things..but that could possibly be me overthinking. Devin I don't believe has a romantic attraction towards his brother either, but more of an unhealthy, possessive attachment. When Mateo tells him he's leaving, Devin I believe takes it as abandonment. He doesn't hear Mateo say how he'll visit and they'll still see one another, he just hears you're leaving me because you don't want me anymore. That is what turns his sadness into rage, anger, and he decides he'll show his brother that he doesn't get to just leave him.

Overall this was definitely a terrifying read and I am now onto the second. 😵‍💫
