If you think being a teenager in today's world is tough, try being one in 2081. In Alberta's It's Only Fair society, your brain-band will zap you just for chewing with your mouth open. One boy pried his brain-band off to see what living with emotions would be like. Being chased by the entire Alberta army was bad enough. It became worse when another 15 year old kid offered to help him escape.
David Wighton is a retired educator who enjoys writing youth novels when he's not on a basketball court coaching middle-school girls. The books in his Wilizy series peek at how people lived after the word's governments collapsed in the chaos that followed the catastrophic rise in ocean levels and the disappearance of the world's last deposits of oil.
Wighton's novels have strong teenage characters driving the plot and facing challenges that, in many respects, are no different from what teenagers face today. His novels are intended to entertain and readers will find adventure, romance, suspense, humour, a strong focus on family, plus a touch of whimsy. Wighton also writes to provoke a little thought about life in today's societies and what the future might bring. Teachers may find the series useful in the classroom and the novels are offered for free with that intent in mind.
Maybe I shouldn't write this review. What with getting all of my pre-Holiday chores done I felt like I was fighting my way through--and I did finish it. This is the first of the 27 Wilizy Books I downloaded, Book-1 thru Book-27. I have a rule: If you download a free book you are required to leave a review. Since ya got it for free, you are not allowed to leave a mediocre or less review.
I now have a bit of grip on the foundation upon which the series is built and I will continue on with the series.
This book was a good introduction to the Wilizy series. The charactersand plot are well established in this book. I recommend this book to teenagers who are looking for a good series to read with characters they can relate to.
Any fool can make a rule, and every fool will follow it.
A dystopian future with brain bands enforcing a right to moderate regime. A young man escapes mental servitude. Meets political extremists? 16 free books in this series .
Characters are very human. Baddies are bad, goodies are flawed but good anyway. Interesting, well constructed world & plot. Well written, few editorial glitches, respectful of humanity while remaining clear-eyed enough to stay well away of nausea.
This was one of those books that I couldn't put down after I started reading it. Interesting concept for a new society. I love the interplay between the two main characters.
Explores a future where everyone is created equal (literally). Even so unfairness and greed still abound along with white supremacy and wacko militants. A fun read.
Very entertaining and enjoyable YA action/adventure with bits of sci-fi for extra excitement! I love the main characters and look forward to reading book which I already have on my Kindle.
