HOARDER CHALLENGE #10: STAND ALONE

Eh...it was a little lame.
And i didn't think it was that steamy which was fine, just saying.
but it was an easy, quick read.
I did like that instead of Strong Scotsman leader who falls for a beautiful/charming British (ie. Sassenach) woman it was a Sassenach (ie. London Brit) male who falls for a strong Scottish female. And he has to prove himself worthy of her instead of the other way around.
That was a clever twist on the typical scottish historical formula story.
My thanks to the writer Alisa Adams who provided a free copy of this writer's book in order to introduce her fans to a new writer.

*** SPOILER ALERT ***
I cannot imagine what it must be like to inherit a Lairdship in Scotland when you were born and raised in England. The peace treaty between the two countries was still raw and the enmity between the English and Scots was still alive and well. I admire the H as he took time to evaluate whether or not he would stay in a hostile Scottish estate. He could sell. But thank goodness he had the priest of the village and a young maiden to assist him. He took his responsibilities seriously. He got down and dirty and worked among the villagers. Then the neighboring Laird was threatening his position because he wanted the estate and the land and the people. He was a wicked, evil, malicious man who would do whatever it took to get what he wanted. The H came up with a plan but had to go back to England to see it through. All the villagers thought he abandoned them. But it was not true. In the meantime, the H and the h fell in love and what a sweet romance it was. In the end the H's campaign in England brought the needed reinforcements to fight the neighboring Laird. The evil Laird was imprisoned along with his followers. The H offered peace between the two villages and brought them together, the villagers accepted. The H married his h and I loved the extended epilogue. A must read. I highly recommend it.

DNF. What a bad book. No real story line. In beginning of the book when the main mc wake up there is a scene where he slept with two women, the one a girl around sixteen years old. (I would suggest in these days to rather stay away from age, or at least don't make them underage -yea I know it was common in the previous century, but still...) Anyway the third time the mmc and mfc meet up so she can show him around town and farms, the egocentric male already get the main female to lift her dress so he could finger and lick her out. And she's ok with it. Doesn't even feel a little embarrassed or shy about it although she's still a virgin... And what is it with authors that always write that the men sleep with a bunch of women and it's ok but the main female character is a virgin. It seems (according to the authors of historical romance) that men from those years couldn't keep their d**ks in their pants and it was ok. Everyone from that era (and apparently this era) is ok with it, in fact they expect men to sleep around. I wish I could get to read a book with a bit stronger male character that don't give into his lust when Everytime he feels like it. Slow Burn is better than jumping in bed whenever with whoever.

Not even going to try the authors other books.

A great read

Adam Cameron's journey to his destiny was very tumultuous, but he swiftly became more than enough to handle the challenges presented. Emilie is well respected by all the villagers, and together these two create sparks to build a solid ending

Emelia and Adam

Steamy from when they first laid eyes on each other. He changed himself completely to fit his inherited world. He started as a Sassanach and ended as a Scot with a son named Mungo.

Adam was a spoiled young Englishman.

Adam was surprised to inherit an estate in Scotland. He is really surprised at how run down things were. He meets beautiful Emelia. The road to romance is very rough. But, together they finally get things done, they have a happy ending.

This one is a dud!

I have enjoyed other books in this series. I respect the real work that is required to write a book. This one however, failed to engage me. Thirty percent in I had enough. Not only did I not like the main character, but I was actually bored.
